Probably won't be the fastest thing on the road but it'll be able to carry enough fuel that it'll never have to stop.....ever. -

Update on my '71 Javelin...finally.... The body was printed in two pieces and are now "welded" together. Resin welding is a process where you take raw liquid resin and use it as a "glue" to marry two resin halves together. Once you have the liquid resin on the parts you hit it with a UV light source (I have a couple mini pen flashlights) and it bonds the pieces together. It also fills in any gaps, then you just sand the surface. If you look over the rear wheel well you can see a faint line where I put the two halves together. I also went into Meshmixer and removed the rear deck lid and printed it separately so now I have an open trunk as well. Much sanding is going to be required to fit it right. I also printed out an interior pan from a file I have for a Porsche 935. I want a "race inspired" interior so there will be no back seat. I'm still working out what to do for a chassis. Likely this will be a 3D printed item as well with a 4 link rear end and sitting on airbags. I also printed up the Mustang GT500 wheels, and really like the looks of them but I didn't like the tires as much so I'll either reprint them or maybe find some kit ones from a parts box. And lastly.............."Got a Hemi?" I just got this file last night, and just finished setting it up to print...but it's pretty cold here today so I'll wait till a warmer day to print. This pic of the Hemi is from Pixel3D on Cults3D. There's enough space on my build plate for 3 prints at once. I've got a Hellcat for the Javelin, my TRX and another project I have going as well. -
Coming up on the last weekend of January is the 16th Annual 24Hrs of Daytona group build on Facebook. For anyone who might be interested in participating please follow the link over to the Facebook group and sign up. Pretty sure we're up over 100 entries again this year. https://www.facebook.com/groups/1932049600326810 Last year, due to Covid, the Canadian race teams that normally travel to the US for the IMSA races couldn't travel with the lock downs so a new Canadian series was created. The Sports Car Championship Canada kicked off its first season with 6 race weekends consisting of 2 sprint races each weekend for a total of 12 races. Multimatic Motorsports entered one of the Ford Mustang GT4's, driven by new-comer Marco Signoretti, and they went on to not only win the Championship, but managed to sweep the series going 12-0. So for 2022's 24 Hr build I'll be doing Marco's championship car. I'll be using Tamiya's stellar Mustang GT4 kit and the just released decals for the Multimatic car from Racing 43 Decals. Paint will be mostly Tamiya LP's since they dry up very quickly when airbrushed. I also ordered Studio 27's CF decals set for the Mustang, so most of my race will be consumed with decals.....I am a glutton for punishment. The winning car: The kit: The decals. First update will be after the start of the race on Saturday January 29th, so about 10 days from now. But for now, a few teaser pics.

Yes, basically the same printer. I haven't tried the water washable yet, I've heard its got a pretty funky smell. The ABS is quite mild I find as far as odor goes. -

Elgoo Mars 2 Mono (pretty much Elegoo's smallest I think). Very good printer tho. Currently having good success with Elegoo's ABS like resin so been using that for awhile now. -

Small update. Everything is printed, I am hoping to get some pics tonight, after I clean off my workbench.....it's a disaster at the moment. Printing was a huge success. I don't think I have had a project so far that worked out so well on the printing process. All the files printed nearly perfectly, I did have a couple minor errors, due to a piece of floating cured resin, that are easily fixable. I'll point those out in the pics later on. I only had one minor misprint, and that was due to me not placing the item on the print bed in the most optimal position but I've since reprinted that part so I have everything to get started this weekend on initial assembly. I ordered some decals for this project from two separate sources so I'm waiting on those to arrive and with the issues in the world right now there's no way to know when they might arrive, but hopefully sooner rather than later. The plan is to start in on print clean up tonight. I purposely left all the supports on the prints to make sure everything cured without any warpage, but the parts are pretty thick and it probably wouldn't have been an issue. Following along on everyone else's projects, and am enjoying what I see. Big Rigs are generally not my forte, but I am looking forward to completing this project. -
Yeah, definitely painted. I'm sure the one I saw was in silver so likely one of the test mules then. Either way, still looking forward to the kit. Even though I'm not a NASCAR guy I do like my race cars. So I'll end up building a few I'm sure. I've got the Roll Out car on order already.

Good to hear he's back up and running.....I'm sure there'll be some stuff I'll be after later in the year as well.

Good news about the Fords/Toyotas, diversity is good. For the sprue colours, I'm fine with white black and met grey, tho I still wish everyone would just do all kits in white/light grey, so much easier to paint over, but I get it, they have to make it easy for the "new builder's" to be able to build a nice looking kit without a lot of supplies. I wouldn't be surprised tho if the rollcage/chassis interior bits aren't metallic grey as I think I saw a pic of one of the cars with an aluminum coloured rollcage. I would still love to see love to see some test shots of the kit tho. Just to get a feel for how detailed it is. I am really surprised that they haven't released any shots as of yet other than the renders.
-
Looks like a 3D render for sure. I've not seen any full on pics of the new tooling, even though, I ordered one of the rollout kits. I'm hoping its a decent kit. I'll probably order up one more as well of the newer preorders. Hopefully they'll get with Ford and Toyota and get some of them out soon as well. They appear to have the GM's covered.

My previous one was very similar but didn't have the tank....get one with a tank.

F150 Lightning

Yeah, I found them right after I posted. He's got the '01 Lightning wheels in 20" as well. I've got a few of his wheel sets, probably 3 or 4 currently. And many more I want to get for down the road. I bought his McLaren F1 GTR set for a couple of builds I'm working on now, they're perfect. -

Nice start Dan. Got a link for the wheels? I saw a set of those on Cults. Not sure if it's the same creator as yours tho. EDIT: Never mind, I just looked them up and yes, it's the vendor I was thinking of. What printer did you get? -
For my entry in the 2022 BRBO is the Volvo Iron Knight truck. I win not be doing a 100% representation of the original truck, but as a basis for the build. I plan on doing a race truck with a livery I think will look amazing on the truck (more to come on that, it's a bit of a secret atm). For this build I will be 3D printing pretty much everything for this project. So far the only "parts" not 3D printed will be the primer, paint and clear, the decals and some PE seat belts. There could be a few other bits added for detail down the road, but so far all the major components are coming off my Elegoo Mars 2 Mono printer and will be printed in Elegoo's ABS like grey resin. As of this moment, I have begun the approximately 40 or so hours of printing this project will require. I won't be doing any assembly till the New Year, but I wanted to get the parts printed up as soon as possible so on New Year's day I can start this project. My hope is to have it mostly completed by the end of January or early February. I have a long list of projects I want to do this year, so I need to start checking things off the list in a timely manor, which is 100% out of the norm for me. Anyways, here are some print previews of the 3D prints to come over the next few days. Right now, I've got the main chassis printed (it's quite simplified since it'll be hidden by the body works.) Rear half of the chassis( just finished printing), I'll post up a shot all the prints before the start of the actual build. The engine. Unfortunately it's a bit of a brick. It should detail up nice, and I'll likely add in some hoses and tubing and wiring, but it's one solid file to start with. This is one of the rear fenders, because of the size of the parts I'm having to print many of the parts by themselves meaning, as of right now, I have 18 different prints to do. For the interior, there are three individual print files, the floor, the rollcage ( it has a full rollcage) and this preview of the dash and steering wheel. I did not like the "stock" seat the truck came with so I upgraded to a set of seats I had from another creator only cause I think they're more realistic looking than the stock seat. I also added in some Sparco racing pedals (small box looking thing to the left of the steering wheel) since the floor has two rectangles molded into the floor for the pedals and I wanted something more racey looking. I'm also printing off a first aid kit box, just for some extra interior detail. And lastly, for now, a couple files for the wheels, both front and rear. Because of the size I have to print the rear's twice, once for each side. There's also a separate file for the wheel hubs for the front and rear. Fronts And rears. That's all for now. I'll share more on the livery/paint scheme once I get the decals I ordered. I want to make sure they're a decent quality just incase they are not and I have to change things up. More to come in the New Year. Have a safe and Happy Holidays everyone.

BRBO 2022
Jhedir6 replied to JerseeJerry55's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Ok I'm in. Likely wont get started till sometime in February but I have an idea.... Recently a 3D print file of this truck was uploaded and I bought the files to 3D print. I have not printed it as of yet, but the BRBO would be a good venue for it. The 3D print is not 100% like the actual truck, but it's close. I'll likely do my own version of it, but definitely not like the above pic. 3D print preview. Files available for purchase here if you have a printer and are interested. https://cults3d.com/en/3d-model/various/full-kit-volvo-iron-knight-inspired-racing-truck-07dez-01 -
Ok I'll play. I was originally going to do this for the Cannonball Run "Year of your Birth" group build but since I switched builds, a couple of times, I'll use the 1971 Nissan Skyline for the P2P group build. Starting with, Tamiya's Nissan Skyline 2000 GT-R street custom. The kit is pretty much the same as the regular Hard Top version but has the Watanabe wheels, which I like better, but I'm not sure if they are actually correct for that era or more modern. I will research it and if they are out of era I'll just switch to some steelies. Also the custom kit comes with some PE and "racing seats" with racing harness' so makes the upgrade worth the few extra $$. Not sure on what colour to go with, likely silver as it just looks good on these cars, no matter the era of them. Also, the silver will make the extra details pop. Looks good with the steelies too. Interior will be stock other than I'll add in a rollcage, as per the rules, along with maybe some more modern race seats for "safety and comfort". A fire extinguisher and probably a few Go-Pro's and a tablet for recording the journey, cause who wouldn't want to record an experience like this. And lastly, the engine. The nice little 2.0L engine, and the kit comes with one, will be detailed up with some wires and whatever else looks appropriate for the time. I'll also add in some mudflaps, skid plates, and likely a roof rack. I may open the truck up and put in a fuel cell as well. Likely won't get started till the New Year. So see you all in 2022.

That sucks about the decal not sticking. I had a similar issue and was able to save it by using some Tamiya acrylic clear to "glue" the decal down then I was able to reshoot some 2K over the top. Maybe give that a try, if it doesn't work, you were planning on striping it anyways. Otherwise, it looks amazing.

Steve, I got the file here https://cults3d.com/en/3d-model/game/1-24-javelin-ringbrothers and yes, I'm printed it myself. If you buy it to print, be warned it's not 1/24th scale, I did my first print without checking the size and it came out small, like 1/28th scale or so. I did a search on the interwebs and found the dimensions of the stock Javelin and used those to figure out the dimensions in 1/24th scale and had to bump up the print by about 11% to bring it up to 1/24. Other wise the files are very good and look accurate. The only other issue with them is that the panel lines are very shallow and will need to be scribed before primer and paint cause I doubt they'd even be visible after primer. All the parts are now printed. I wont be doing any work on the project till after the 1st but we had a warm spell here and I wanted to print off as many of the files as I could just in case it gets too cold. Resin printers are very touchy with low temperatures. I'll like post up a intro thread in the WiP section later tonight or tomorrow.
