Quick update for me. Tamiya Ford Mustang GT4 being converted to (or back to) a Shelby GT350R (all the GT4's come off the line are Shelby GT350s). So far I've- -remove the GT4 hood and replaced it with a Shelby GT350 hood (robbed from a 1/24 RC car). -rear wing is from a diecast GT350R (I have some other parts that will be used from that same diecast) -chassis is 100% kit so far, all I've done is cut out a space for the passenger seat to fit into the tub. -the internal compressor for the airjack system will be kept and relocated. -I have other additional interior details to add (will take interior pics then) -I have wheels and tires being made (the factory GT350R wheels are carbon fiber, I'm having some forged clones made as CF might not be very durable over 3000 miles of hard driving.) -hoping to get some primer on the body later this week ( I have to rebuild my paint booth, I think my exhaust fan has given up the ghost) For now, a teaser shot.

Nice job. I'm doing this one at the end of January for the 24hr Daytona Facebook group build. If I can make it look as nice as yours I'll be happy.
-
I've got the same issue with the GT4 Mustang interior. I may cut down some of the inner supports as well. I was originally just going to tint the windows but, that will make seeing interior details a lot harder. Looking good so far.

Love the Subaru WRC cars, looking forward to this one.

Me too. I'm loving the seats. Going to be so easy to make them CF then paint the pads whatever colour you want, and they have the holes for the seatbelt harness' so some nice PE seatbelts will be a must.

I'm in. Going to focus on this build this time around and not work on anything else till it's done (aside from the Daytona 24hr build weekend). Tamiya Mustang GT4 (starting point) And the plan is to convert it back to a street car (the GT4's start out as Shelby GT350's) Full race interior will be kept (along with a co-pilot seat added) and the plan is to add in some more details as well. Looking forward to January 1, I even have a couple days off over New Year's so the plan is to jump on this right away. See you in the New Year.

So I just went back through the pics of the parts and videos and for the engine I'm up to around 16 pieces for the engine, not including cats or the shields that go ontop of the chassis parts or the chassis parts that surround the engine or any of the floor bits either.....that's a pretty detailed engine actually considering even on the real car you can't open anything to expose the engine. I'm guessing an oilchange on this thing is around $11,000......$1000 in parts and $10,000 in labour.

It's NOT a Revell USA kit....it's a Revell Germany kit. Therefore it's been shipped to the Euro suppliers first. Hiroboy is probably one of the bigger online vendors, they seem to get almost everything in Europe first. I assume they'll rebox it for the US market like they normally do with Revell Germany productions. So unless US suppliers are going to be offering the Germany kit, it'll be a later date for the US release....I assume...I've not seen any US box art for this kit yet....but I haven't looked. I'm not really interested in this Jag.

LOL I was just about to post......Hiroboy has it up on it's site as of sometime this morning. https://www.hiroboy.com/124_Jaguar_E_Type_Coupe_Plastic_Kit--product--15574.html

Lots of great builds, well done all. But I have to tip my hat to the S.H.I.E.L.D semi.....lots of great scratch building. Congrats to all.

Kits in Walmart For Christmas
Jhedir6 replied to OldNYJim's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I think it's a lot closer to 20yrs since Walmart has had kits in Canada. I bought a bunch of AMT and Revell kits all around $10 ea, but that was back in the early 2000's and I don't remember ever seeing any since then. I'm off work at 8am and there's a Walmart on my way home, I'm gonna stop by and see if they have any.....not expecting there to be, but we'll see. -
Well I know what colour I'm doing my first one. This one's for sale right now in Toronto, Canada. Only 500km's and only $1,525,000 CDN......yeah Onyx Black with Napier Green accents.
-
Looks like the Canuks are bringing out the Canadian made guns for this year's run. See you in the trenches Bruce.
-
Sounding like it's pretty much decided. I'm in. Kit is sitting here, unwrapped waiting to get started. See you in January.

I don't disagree with you on the engine, but there are still alot of parts to add to the block. Transmission halves and rear plate, front engine plate, valve covers, airbox or breathers or whatever they call them, exhaust pipes after the turbos, and there's probably a few other small bits. I definitely agree it would have been nice to have the exhaust headers at least be separate for detail painting, but I think most of the engine will be hidden much like the NSX, unless you were to leave it outside the car for display. It looks like it's probably one of the more complicated kits out there, I don't think many people will not be following the directions on this one closely. The real question is tho....what colour are you going to paint it?
-
Yeah, the wheels and rotors are designed to spin for a more realistic build while the calipers will be fixed to the suspension, like a real car. GT3 is taking over the world really, over the last 5 years the viewership on GT3 spec racing (including IMSA) has sky rocketed, NASCAR and F1 are dwindling. Another GT3 car from Tamiya would be great. I'd love to see them do the C8R....if they can get licensing from GM....but if anyone does, it'll likely be Revell and in 1/25th scale.
-
Does Tamiya even have the licensing to do Ferrari's anymore? Doesn't matter what kit they want to do, without licensing they aren't doing any from that manufacturer. With a new deal from McLaren now, maybe they'll go back in time and do some older stuff? NO ONE has done a P1 or P1 GTR (other than the quick build kit from AirFix) so that might be a logical choice. The 720 GT3 might be another option since a race car might be next up since they seem to do a road car, then a race car. Personally I'm pretty happy with the Senna...not my favourite McLaren but understandable since it's an eye catcher, whether you love it or hate it. I'll be getting a couple for sure, and I don't expect to see CF decals from Tamiya, they seem to have gotten away from the detail up sets other than the fork sets for bikes. But I'm sure HD will be all over a detail up set and Studio 27 a CF set.

Yes, they did both Gens in 1/25, and both are snappers The Gen1 is a very nicely detailed kit. The interior and chassis are very well detailed. The Gen2 looks good but it's just got a basic mostly flat chassis and the interior is detailed but not nearly as much as the Gen1 kit. If A&N does a Raptor I hope its a quad cab as both the Revel kits are just the "super cab" and not the "super crew"
-
That's awesome news. I was hoping they were going to do a Raptor. Did they specify which Gen?
-
I agree with Dann, if you're doing a race car, it's going to need to be modified to some extent to be able to run on public roads....race slicks are not going to get you across the country, and you're not going to be able to "pit" to swap tires in a rain storm, nor would race slicks be reliable over normal roads. As for two driver's, the record was beat this year buy a guy solo in a rental Mustang he modified....but tbh...I think a co-driver would be a lot more realistic for most racers.....and would add another element of modifications, scratch building that everyone would have to do.....if you use a rally car you'd have a step up, but not a huge advantage. Two divisions, solo, teams would be cool.....but I'd like to see cars built to have a "team" again, to add to the scratch/mod building. I'm totally in on the race car vibe. I love the idea. And my kit just arrived in the mail today so I've got a starting point already.
-
I'm in. I like this idea. And I know what I'm going to run. Start date you're shooting for?
-
Looks like a release date of December is on the board from a few vendors....no idea how realistic that is....given most of their other releases have been delayed. I do give props to NuNu for one thing tho....they've made the IMSA bubble an add on to the roof, unlike the C7R and Ford GT from Revell with the molded in bubble, so it will be easier to do a WEC version with some aftermarket decals. Lots of build up images have been released. https://www.spotmodel.com/product_info.php?products_id=52410#image1
