W.I.P. Ferrari F430GT RISI LM07 *UPDATE*
crispy replied to SCUDERIA-FERRARI's topic in WIP: Model Cars
HA HA! Good pic. True enthusiasts. Chris -
That is sweet Bob! Nicely done. As usual! LOL Chris

Usually have seat belt buckles and the like with photo etch frets I purchase for some cars. Otherwise Eduard makes some photo etch seat belt sets and they come with material for the belts also. I've also used really narrow thin ribbon I've found at craft stores for seat belt material. I do know there are other sources for seat belt hardware. I like Eduard and have used Detail Master as well as Tamiya, Acustion and Studio 27. Chris

Scale Auto Style is up for sale!!!
crispy replied to Tonioseven's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Wow, that's a shame. I hope someone will buy it. That is some great stuff he has. I had bought a few items from Chris as well as traded with him for SAS stuff. I still have the carbon fiber sheets. I really would like that 400R set. Although I haven't the skills needed to set this back up I would certainly love to try. The parts he made were just about perfect needing very little clean-up, and fit perfectly. Decals are top notch items too. I certainly hope someone is able to pick it up and start re-issuing and selling this stuff. Just the fact that HLJ was interested could be incentive enough. However, you'd beter have lots of stock on hand before you go through. Chris -
I do love mine. I have two of them actually. I will agree with you on the portion of getting underneath the body, as you do have to pick it up. Otherwise I use mine all the time. I usually put the body stand on top of the other unit to help with getting underneath, but sometimes you have to lift it up. I also use a lazy susan base in my booth. I also like the rotation and clips for attaching small pieces. I've also found that using the holes provided in the stands work with other objects well too. I feel it is a worthwhile tool to have. Bob,congrats on the top ten! Thanks for all the photo's too. I got out of work at 2 but it would have been 3:30 when I would have arrived. So I think next year I'll take the three days off so I can hang out. Looks like it was a good time. Chris

Curt, Why don't I believe it's that easy?? That's a really nice looking build. It appears to be straightforward. You certainly do build them clean. Chris

That is a great job and I like the tutorial in picture form. Thanks for sharing that. Chris

Thanks guys. The hood was the hardest part of this build. The fist hood was about perfect, and then the drop with fresh clear killed it. My second hood, which you see here is good, but has some gold fade into the black. Not bad, but not as nice and crisp as the first hood. The rarity of the real car and the color scheme really got to me and I knew I would have to build it someday. Captain Obvious, I have one for sale on emodelcars.com that is still sealed! Anyway, I took some shots of it outside today. Hope you enjoy. shot of the engine: More OUTSIDE PICS HERE Chris

Yeah, really a 1/20 kit: Thanks for checking out. I appreciate the comment. The Z28 is not correct. It needs to be the F1 version as it has the specific air dam I need. Thanks for looking though. Chris

It's been a long hard winter. However, I was able to get back to the bench a bit at a time. Sometimes forcefully. My first completion of 2009. Had this kit in my thoughts ever since I saw the 97 Hurst. This was one of 7 cars built that year with a total of 10 cars being built. 3 of which are '98 versions. This is a 1/20 scale Lindberg Firebird Firehawk kit. It took no less than 4 other kits to complete just this one. It's still not complete due to the difficulty I am having in finding a Lindberg Camaro F1. This has the correct front valance I need to complete the car. Also missing are the Hurst/Pontiac Lingenfelter decals for the sail panels. I am having these custom made and hope to have them by months end. Paint used was all Tamiya. TS-14 black, TS-21 Gold and TS-13 clear. I started out by scuffing the highly polished body. I then laid out Tamiya fine surface primer. Each coat was wet sanded until I was happy. Then color coats were applied. Again, each one wet sanded. I then applied two clear coats and applied my coats of gold paint to the spoiler and hood. This was then clear coated multiple times again. Each wet sanded with 4000 polishing cloth. I then did a final polish with 6, 8 and 12,000 grits. After all that I applied Meguiar's Scratch X to get the fine scratches out. I also use Mothers Reflections polish as a final coat. The interior was finished in Tamiya colors as well, basically the line of blacks was used throughout. I also flocked the rear trunk area as well as the floor pan. It's pretty blah, but that was how GM liked the interior. This kit was warped, bent and outta shape like you would not believe. I was happy to have all the extra kits on hand to mix and match parts until everything fit together as best it could. I will admit to lots of CA and 5 minute epoxy. The window glass was bad in all the kits. distorted and marked. I tried to clean them up the best I could without marring them. I also had to mask of the windows to add the black surround on the inside to make it look a little more realistic. Well, here it is for now. I will take some pictures of it outside after work tomorrow in the sun. Here are a few images for you to look at: Thought I had a picture with the hood off, but apparently not. Will get that tomorrow too. More pictures can be found at My Fotki Thanks for looking. Chris

Big Thumbs Up from me! Nice work! Great tribute. My dad had me grow up on Camaro's. It's all we owned until he passed in 1983. I still have the 82 Camaro, his last new car, in my yard. Preparing for a parting out party. Nice homage. Chris

I will not be attending due to work. Thank you. That's all I'm going to say. I really do love working every friggin weekend. Chris

crispy replied to Lyn's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Hey Lyn, Glad to be of help. You must have me mixed up with Chris Guthro. I sent you a message a few days ago via PM about the stuff we had talked about. Need advice on selling a collection
crispy replied to Lyn's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Lyn, it's not that special, just not that easy to find either. Short of being a Ferrari. Issued in 1990 kit 8688 $20 book value. Less or more depending. I'd also like to thank you for listing a bunch of stuff on emodelcars .com. Looks like you're getting some good bids in. Chris -
I'd like to clarify that I'm not picking on him. It just reminded me of that episode on "The Office". I found it humorous. Chirs

Dingo, I think that is going to be a bit of work. It looks like his car was altered a bit. I think you will have to purchase a few kits and cut them up to get what he wants. http://www.hlj.com/product/FUJ18651 That might be a good starting point with parts sourced form other kits to replicate it correctly. I think the big factor here is the expense. How many kits or parts you'll need, the cutting and re-working and of course time. Good Luck to you. IF you do start it it would be great to see you build it up on here. Chris

This reminds me of Michael Scott declaring Bankruptcy. From "The Office". Hey, I just wanted you to know, that you can't just say the word bankruptcy and expect anything to happen. I didn't say it, I declared it. Still.. that's.. it's not anything Chris

Ed, I don't think there is a R34 with engine. Most of them are curbside. Not sure of the engine differences from the R32 but HLJ has a pic of just an engine kit by Aoshima: http://www.hlj.com/product/AOS03511 Maybe you could make that work in one of the many R34 kits they or Fujimi produce. Good Luck! Chris

1934 ford coupe/convertable 1962 copyright. price?
crispy replied to Lyn's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Lyn, I have an older version of the Directory of Model Car kits. Remember this is a guide only and an open market wil certainly reveal the actual price. Anyway, listed as a 1934 Ford 3 window coupe/convertible 6-in-1 issued '62 PC-72, $150.00. I'm sure the price will be about that give or take these days. Chris -
Michael's Arts and Crafts or Hobby Lobby. I use the coupons. Chris
