  1. Those are sweet! What's the extra cost over the car for these packages? That's two cars I hope Revell can do. Anyway, I like them, a lot! Thanks for the pictures Ismael! Chris
  2. I really couldn't pin-point the most important tool in my arsenal, but I'll narrow it down to two. My paint booth: My dehydrator: Without the dehydrator I'd be watching paint dry more than assembly. My house has a dedicated basement workshop. It's approximately 25x12. It's more than enough room to build, but as any guy, I'd love more space. I have a spare room I'll be cleaning out and working on just for that. Mainly to move my builds and display cabinet's into. Here are a few shots of my hobby room: These photo's are from when I cleaned it in Oct. '08. IT is now a disaster. I'm working on about 4 projects. I think part of the cleaning process of the room helps rejuvenate the creative juices and get to building again. Chris
  3. Yes, I wash the model body. Sometimes, if you don't, even primer won't stick to it! LOL Don't ask how I know. Chris
  4. No matter the color of molded plastic I build the prep to paint all the same on every body. So, for me that means fixing any flaws I find be it mold lines or sink marks, with putty. After that I do a light sanding on my body as well as the sections I may have used putty on. Then to a primer. Regarding color usually will dictate my primer color choice. In your case of white I'll use white primer, either Tamiya or Plasti-Kote. Once I get that on I look for more flaws, fix and sand again. Once I'm happy I'll do my final primer coat and wet sand it. I'll then start my paint. Tamiya is always a good choice for white along with their clear. OF course any white through an airbrush with clear will also do the trick. I've never cleared over bare plastic for the same reason you mentioned. It looks to toy like. Other methods are out there, this is just how I do mine. Chris
  5. Nice work DWC! Glad to see you made it over here. You can certainly write! LOL Look forward to more of your stuff in the future. Chris
  6. Thanks Bill! In my fotki? LOL I've gotten a little criticism over the body because I did not paint the side bar that breaks the side glass. I like it white. Some say it doesn't look finished or like the "real" cars are. But then again it's built how I'd like it. Chris Edited for Bill, the completed thread: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.p...ic=5271&hl=
  7. I probably go overboard as far as the panel lines are concerned, but in the end I know they'll look right. I will get my fresh body cleaned and use a Micron pigment pen. They come in a variety of sizes. I use the .005 pens primarily for my door panels. Some kits have huge gaps while I find that the Japanese companies have thinner gaps. Depending on that I might scribe the lines a little deeper as well. I then go ahead and prep and prime my model. Once I get done I go through the lines again with the micron pen. Depending on how many coats of primer I need I will continue with the pen. Once I'm happy with the primed body and start color coats I'm done with the pen. Usually this gets it dark enough to show a darker shading on the model irregardless of what paint color you go with. Here is my Porsche Cayman with primer and the micron lines already in: Here it is finished. You can see how much more shaded it is. This is my technique and it works for me. Other techniques will work as well if not better, but to me it really depends on how comfortable you are with that method. Good Luck! Chris
  8. If I'm not mistaken, taking this from my Forza magazine. The cars were all red. Other colors were done by the owners. However as we all know, money talks and Ferrari paints. Chris
  9. Just a shout to you guys in the tri/quad state area. The South Central Modeler's of Minnesota will be holding their show on March 28th. This is also held in conjunction with a toy show. Unsure if there will be any plastic vendors. Take a look at the flier for more info and details. Chris
  10. The types and quantities of kits that each Michael's will get is determined by there volume. My store is an E store, meaning small volume. The big bad A stores will get a lot more variety. So not all stores will get the black widow. As far as clearance kits go. We had 6 kits and all were gone within a week. Chris
  11. Since my last update we've added 37 new registered users. That's now 437. I've also updated my listings with more Cobra Colors paint as well as a few more kits. Also of note are some of the Model Books I've listed by Mark Gustavson, Bill Coulter and others. Please take the time to check out WHAT'S NEW at emodelcars.com Chris
  12. What a super clean build. These kits always look intimidating. You've done a super job, as always! LOL Chris
  13. Well, the reset was supposed to be implemented by March 6th. It may take a week or so. The model section is not going away. Maybe ask the manager about it. I bought the JG and Magnum kit for a total of $6.40 on clearance and guys, you can use coupons on the clearance kits. I couldn't pass the deal up for them being that inexpensive. Chris
  14. Nice work Pat! I like the looks of that Focus as a WRC car. You did a nice clean job on it for only 24 hours! Chris
  15. Have a good one Gregg! Chris
  16. Kevin, check out you-tube. I saw a lot of videos on there for it. IT actually had a police escort to a track. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hcVn3PVxB9g...re=channel_page No sound due to an authorization, but the pictures you want will be in the vid. Chris
  17. Ken, Nice grabs! I wish our store had gotten the slant nose in. I'd have picked one up for sure. Chris
  18. Nice work so far. I really like the looks of it. Decals look fantastic. Chris
  19. I have a Nesco American Harvest dehydrator: I just cut the inner part out of the rings with exception to the bottom one: I also bought an extra box of trays so I could go much higher. As for temperature I leave mine at about 105 on the knob. Of course using a thermometer inside to actually see where it is at would help you determine how warm it gets in there. OF course the temp changes a little bit depending on how many rings I have on as well. I usually have the dehydrator running just before I start painting the model. This way it warms up and once I have finished painting I usually go ahead and set it inside. Depending on the paint I use determines the amount of time I leave it in. No worries though as leaving it in a long time shouldn't hurt it if you have the right temp set. Testors: about one full day/overnight Tamiya: about 4-8 hours give or take Automotive paint: about a few hours Of course this is how I do it and have had no problem. Your results may vary Chris
  20. Right on Casey. The 08 Challenger and 70 Nova are the Maisto die-cast kits. The new Mustangs are priced at $24.99, but I expect those to go out with the coupons anyway. We re-set our section last week and were hoping to have the models on Thursday. So, My guess is it will be filled on March 5th or March 12th. Chris
  21. Fantastic work Bob! Super clean. I've got to get me some of that NATO black. I hear it works great as a interior/frame paint too. Chris Forgot to ask you, what race did you do to unlock the car? I don't think I have that one yet.
  22. Tom, that's a beautiful build. Perfect colors and wheels. Great job! Chris
  23. I like it. The graphics are kind of befuddling though. The more I see it the more I really like it. The Daytona pace car was an eye catcher to me as well. Chris
  24. crispy

    Audi R8

Really nice! I love the white one as well but really like the wheels on the blue one. They both set off nice. Another clean neat build from you! Chris
  25. You must have made it 400 registered users Tom! LOL Chris
