  1. I concur, Kevin is easy to work with. Never had a problem with him. Chris
  2. Skip, no, I wouldn't say close to a pearl at all. It does change color with the more coats you apply. I would agree that it is a lot finer grind though. Steve, thanks, and you are right. I think the Corvette emblem could have been bigger for the center cap and the brake calipers can't be seen as well either, especially the work I put in the brakes. The wheels look "clunky". Again, thanks guys. Chris
  3. The first outdoor show of the year started. It was cold! Last year at this time it was in the 70's, this year, 34 degrees, but a good turnout. A real big boy Big Wheel. This thing was wicked! More at MY FOTKI Chris
  4. Thanks guys. I really love the kit. I stripped my wheels simply because, as you all know, the chrome was just way too bright. I got the effect I wanted. I like the wheels on the ZR1 but I think, again as you guys do, the lack of sidewall detail and size could be improved. I liked this one so much I bought another. I'm going to put the fixes on it. Those being the wheel to fender clearance issue, the supercharger a little closer to the hood window. and a few other things. I might even look at new wheels and tires. I kind of rushed this at the end and didn't take the time I wanted to make those fixes. The JetStream blue just looks electric in the photo's. Certainly better than that new dead Supersonic Blue they offer now. Thanks guys! Chris
  5. I managed to get a couple days to finish my latest project. In all honesty I wanted to finish this a long time ago but the recent show I attended moved it along. I'm refreshed and rejuvenated for modeling again. Revell Corvette ZR1 Scalefinishes.com Jetstream Blue Scalefinishes.com Calicove blue on calipers and engine Wheels were stripped, sprayed with Testors gloss black and lightly sprayed with Chrome alclad. I wanted that black chrome look and feel I achieved it. Interior is black and grey per the JetStream blue ZR1 I was referencing. I also used black embossing powder for the interior flocking. I ground out the front grill and inserted some black painted wire form. More realistic. I hand drilled each brake rotor, painted them aluminum and added a light black wash to bring out the detail. The roof carbon fiber (Scale Motorsport CF Twill weave)was tough and I'm o.k. with how it turned out but very happy to have learned a new technique to apply to future models. I went with Tamiya TS13 for clear. Polished the kit out and used Meguiars Scratch X 2.0. Novus was used as well. Well, enough of my rambling here are a few pictures with more at the link: Lot more photos at MY FOTKI Don't mind how many I took as I was experimenting with my camera and lighting. Chris
  6. Matt, Here are a few pictures of one I've seen. I hope they help a little bit: I'll be at cars and cafe this coming weekend and if the car is there again I'll try to get some better interior shots. IF anything I'll be able to use them. Chris
  7. I love where you are going with this Matt! It looks great and I love your out of the box thinking on the paint job. The wheels look absolutely killer! Great combo! I just got a hold of a SLS kit for myself and like you have already had the "theme" in my head months ago. Keep posting updates. I love it! Chris
  8. Eric, great to see you back into building. Love this car. I'm still working on my "shark mouth" version. You are certainly correct about the inaccuracies. While the tires are the big glaring one, the rear tail treatment concerning the tail lights is off a bit too. Of course with any race car and race to race some things changed. Great job on masking the curve. I'd bet money the white decal wouldn't have been opaque enough. Looks like after a year you still have the touch. Looking forward to more! Chris
  9. Gerry, thanks for the great pics! I have got to go to this show some year. Thanks for sharing! Chris
  10. Richard, Prices vary as usual, but for the full glue detail kits you are looking at the full MSRP of $24.99. Of course they range from 17.99 and up. I was glad to see that they got some R2 kits in, albeit only the Concept Camaro, but this could segue into more offerings showing up. With that last part said, and hearing of Tomy purchasing the company, I hope there are no altering changes to the molds being leased so we can continue to get the great stuff re-released as well as the small number of new releases that R2 is working on. Chris
  11. Absolutely unbelievable! That small and intricate. You are a super builder Mark. Thanks for sharing it with us. Chris
  12. I posted some info at Scale Auto to V. Forgot you came over here otherwise I would have posted it here. But at any rate, here is that info: Just thought I would let you know that a Michael's reset is coming up towards the end of the month. This does not mean it will happen then, but is scheduled to be reset. Each volume store has a different standard. It may have been reset or is in process. Anyway, this is what I found to be coming into the stores soon: M48A2 Patton Tank 68 Dodge Hemi 2n1 F4C Phantom Mack "R" Conventional Fruehauf 67 Chevelle SS 396 Motorcycle asst.(die-cast) Dodge Viper SRT10 06 Chevy Camaro Concept(Round 2 AMT) Ferrari 458 Italia (die-cast) Corvette ZR1 02 Camaro 2n1 I DO NOT have any other information. Chris
  13. Gerry, thanks for showing us everything included in the kit. Like everyone else I'm sitting waiting to see if Fujimi or Revell pops one out. It's an ambitious project to scratch with an existing kit and expensive to purchase the HD kit as well as just plain expensive. I do certainly look forward to your work though. It should be beautiful! Chris
  14. Issue #117 October 2006, page 54. Although at this time I am not sure I want to give up my copy. But that's the one you want to look for. It wa also a cover car on MCM issue 121. Chris
  15. Fantastic. I too love the little details. The over spray is interesting. Chris
  16. What brand paint did you use? Does it have a matte clear coat? I'm eventually going to do a build with a matte color because they look so sinister, as your CGT does. Nice work! Chris
  17. For any of you that were waiting for the new Mercedes SLS to come out in a US version box do not wait any longer. I got a note from Revell telling me they canceled this kit. IF you must have this kit, like I do, then you need to find a source that carries it in the Revell of Germany box. So far I have been fruitless in my finds and only hope it just hasn't made it here yet. I was/am very disappointed that they chose not to box this kit for US consumption. I just wanted to pass that info along so that everyone that was thinking about getting the kit wouldn't miss out. Chris
  18. Nice work. I'm not ready to do something like this just yet. I'm hoping Revell or Fujimi bring us the GTO. Seeing yours makes me really want to build one. Chris
  19. I received my issue 155 today. I'll go out on a limb and say it was a good issue, not great, but then again not all of them can be. One thing I would like to point out on this issue was the last page ad from Scale Motorsport concerning their Carbon Fiber decals. Not only is the ad selling you something it also gives a brief history of the CF as well as series and colors on the right hand side. Pretty nice ad. Which brings me to my next point. To whomever sets this rag up I appreciate being able to thumb over to the last few pages and find the ads. I don't know why I like this, but I am guessing I am able to read the magazine, then filter through the ads if needed. I like that layout. Looking forward to the next issue. Chris
  20. Got mine today here in MN. While it might be late their is always something cool to read in there. I enjoyed, no matter what the date is. Chris
  21. My exact sentiments! Chris
  22. Michaels and Hobby Lobby both carry kits at Revell and Round Two suggested retail price. The coupons DO make the kits more affordable. The LHS that charges less is doing good business in knowing that if you get the kit you might buy the accessories at FULL retail price. Is he really losing on the kit? Probably not. He is making it up on the accessories. Where, he does, in fact make more money. I know for a fact that Michaels buys kits for 50% of what they sell them for. So if you get a 50% off coupon from them they make no money on the kit. Sounds like a good deal for the consumer. Chris
  23. Did you go by the same name over there? We talk quite a bit if so. Mainly about Michaels. LOL Chris
  24. I like the way it looks on all sides. Like Bob said it's polarizing. Reminds me a lot of a BMW Z3, only more curvaceous. Chris
  25. Anytime I see your name John, I look. You never fail to disappoint! While it's not what I build I can certainly appreciate fine modeling at its best. Great work! Chris
