  1. Years ago I purchased a Protar Mercedes W196 kit. And years ago, I attempted to begin it. A little work was done in 2012, and it wasn't until 2014 that I finished it. It was, by far, one of my least favorite builds. It would take a lot of patience, aftermarket, and scratchbuilt parts to make it special. Attached are photos of the results...
  2. I don't have a lot of Box Body images, but if my website helps at all, I will be happy: www.crownvicsetc.com I do have some sales brochures if scans will help at all.
  3. Very nice stuff! Nn3 would mean Z scale track, or actual N? I always get confused with that... (N-scale n-narrow gauge 3-3 foot gauge)
  4. I see the 2016 Stingray kit from Revell is out... I wonder what the brake rotors look like in THAT kit! Also noticed it is a skill level 4!!
  5. Hello all, wondering if anyone else is having trouble viewing gallery photos? All I get is a grey box, like maybe it is a Java or Flash setting. I am using Firefox. Fiddled with settings but still no dice... JD
  6. I have some N scale buildings to share, maybe I'll put together a post...
  7. It is HARD to detail things that small! The ambulance was )(*#(^*)*(#% to add the decals to!
  8. Just so you know, that is a replica. Don't mean to nit-pick... You can tell by the sealed beam headlights and the wheels, among other things.
  9. Very cool! For a while I was toying with the idea of picking up either this or their Aston kit. Nice to see a built one!
  10. VERY NICE! I love it when people choose subjects like this!
  11. Just picked up this kit myself, so it is useful to see one built by someone else! What shade of yellow did you use?
  12. Thought I read a while back that that kit doesn't have a lot of separate exterior parts... is that the case? If so, the amount of masking you had to do is INSANE!
  13. I started out with good ol' 1/24 model cars, and have gone through some major burn-out bouts. About 12 years ago I started looking into model railroad kits, and once I settled on N scale, which is 1/160, it was only natural I have a few vehicles! There isn't a huge selection of "kits" out there in that scale, unless you are into trucks, but I did do some pewter vehicles. The Crown Vic you see in the photo with the Checker taxi was a resin model, but the rest are all pewter. Alas, I sold most of them... I wish I had kept the silver 911 Cabriolet and "Mini Stank", the garbage truck. Please keep in mind these vehicles are roughly ONE INCH LONG (other than Mini Stank)
  14. Looked at the Pebble Beach site for more info. So far, all I found was: Class R: Bizzarrini...... 1st: 1969 American Motors AMX/3 Auto Costruzioni S.D. Coupe, Padma & Jürgen M. Wilms, Düsseldorf, Germany
  15. I decided to pick up this kit today to see if it would jump-start my wanting to sit and build something. I was disappointed to see no one has the usual aftermarket parts... the small photo etch detail sheets, decals for other races, etc. Did the kit only recently come out? That could explain it, but I also noticed very few recent releases of ANY parts for ANY kits. Have I been on hiatus so long that the whole aftermarket industry has collapsed??
  16. I appear to be the Odd One Out on this forum like I am everywhere else! I'm not into small Japanese cars... I do like Mustang Madness 's new/used Mustang. Miatatom 's Cobra looks nice for a replica. Any Cobra without 20" wheels IMMEDIATELY moves up a few spots in my book!
  17. ;-) I didn't want to come across as being a jerk... ;-)
  18. 1969 was the color bumper year, 1970 BB cars always had CHROME bumpers. Also of note, the 1970 cars had different style front suspensions than the first cars. The doors were actually DIFFERENT each year, or at least the hinges were. You'd have to cut/paste to get them on. By the way, whoever build the model shared here did a GREAT job. Even got the wheels right, with the glitter paint on the wheels!
  19. NOTE the BBO Javelin has the "Mod Javelin" roof spoiler.
  20. OK, I know I an new here and I should behave, but I HAVE to make some corrections. I own a 1974 AMC Javelin, and my boyfriend currently owns 3. He can't remember how many he has owned through the years... I am still be learning from him, and I need to, because I have had to put up with so many car guys telling me "facts" that are incorrect, so I just plain HAVE to clear some stuff up: An old American Motors AMX in Chrysler's old bright lime color (the name escapes me although I had a '71 Duster of the same shade) That color is Big Bag Green, not a Chrysler color as Chrysler had nothing to do with AMC at the time. The Javelin is four inches longer the the AMX, to accommodate the backseat. The AMX's roofline was straight down to the rear, but the Javelin was a more sloping roof line. So that might help you in deciding whether it was a AMX or Javelin. This was only the case from 1968-1970. The 1971-1974 cars were all the same body and chassis with a back seat I could be wrong or forgetting, but I thought AMC also had a 340 ci as an option in either or both of these cars. V8 engines were: 1968-1970 = 290/343/390 1971-1974 = 304/360/401 And these are ALL AMC ENGINES, not designed by the Big Three. IIRC, you could get a 290, a 343 a 360, or a 390; all with either a Auto or Manual. I believe you could order a 401, not sure. Yes, you could get a manual 401… my boyfriend owns a 1973 401 4-speed but is the "grabber green" AMX a build or the real thing? AMX did not use Chrysler paint colors. Again that color is/was Big Bad Green. Was offered along with BBBlue and BBOrange. True Big Bad cars also came with body colored bumpers
  21. Oh, I know... TRUST ME. My Vic 1.0 was a 1998 LX with the handling package... drove it 15.5 years!!! But it had a traditional front end, not rack & pinion, narrower tires, wasn't drive by wire, etc. I also spent YEARS in the blue car as a passenger, so driving it is odd. I just plain got SO used to the 1998, and fight change SO much, I feel like a DOPE driving the "new" one! :-)
  22. After 15.5 years with the same car and documenting every single one of them (www.crowncvicsetc.com) this summer, due to lackluster financial situations (aka: unemployment), my boyfriend gave me his car, a 2006 Ford Crown Victoria P71. I call it Vic 2.0. I have yet to form a bond with the car, but it is growing on me. I also own a 1974 AMC Javelin (www.maxiblue.homestead.com) that is now off the road for the aforementioned reason.
  23. Have you started the body yet? The photo etch hood vents are "interesting" to get the white stripe onto...
  24. Without getting too political, much has been said by many people in finance that the price is being artificially lowered by the Middle East for a variety of reasons. Despite a lower demand for oil in many markets, they are over producing anyway. This is making the cost per barrel of oil so low, the US fracking industry can't compete, causing a majority of operations to shut down just after they really got going and helped to make the US less dependent on foreign oil. So don't be surprised if once most of those new US sources of oil production shut down/get mothballed, the Middle East influences the market and the price per barrel shoots back up again. Another point of interest, the low oil/gas prices have NOT helped the US economy, which defuddles some folks. Recently, someone explained that while Mister Electrician is now saving $500 a week in gas for his van, that saved money is being spent on foreign sourced products, thus not helping the US economy directly. This can be argued, of course, but when you think about it, it does make sense. Just sayin'...
