  1. This thread gave me a reason to dig out the NART so I could snap a couple more engine bay pics for you... I tried to show more of the clearances so you can plan your added details. I hope they help! (of course, now I look at the build and see things I could have done better...)
  2. BAH! So they are all a different scale... they were coachbuilt... each was unique... (just kidding!) ?
  3. Wow, 1981! A lot earlier than I expected.
  4. HI folks... does anyone know of alternatives to Micro Mark resin casting items? They are a bit pricey and was wondering if there are any other suppliers of smaller quantities out there. I used Micro Mark's stuff a long time ago with mixed results... JD
  5. Have built models with and without clear over the foil... haven't noticed any issues as they have aged. If anything, the clear helps to seal the foil. BUT, whatever you do, DO NOT CLEAR BLACK FOIL! The one time I tried it the clear was too "hot" and melted off whatever the manufacturer used to make the foil black. This was a long time go, so they may have changed things a bit... but TEST TEST TEST first!
  6. Well, that's ONE good thing about the internet... access to period photos! ? Unless it is ME looking for something, in which case all photos cease to exist...
  7. Do you happen to know roughly, off the top of your head, when they began using carbon fiber on them? Maybe I'll luck out and the kits I still have were pre-carbon fiber... would be a lot cheaper and less work to build! ? Also, do older F1's usually survive into private collections? I wonder... have never looked into that one. I mean, you can't drive them many places. Sorta eye candy. Though there is one that makes the museum-rounds here in New England. I took some detail photos at a show once, just in case. If they do tend to be saved, then in today's snap-happy world there must be some modern photos to go by.
  8. RE: headers... When I was younger and still actively building Ferrari kits, I was told by a "certain Boston-area rock guitarist who also was into Ferraris" that the white headers were race headers... that was all he said and I am not sure if they were porcelain like the strange blue ones that AMC used or not. Something to do with handling extra heat, perhaps? I never did look further into the detail. This pic is from the coupe kit I built a long time ago, and should give you a decent idea how much space you will have... if you want me to snap more I can, I just need to get to the models:
  9. YUP, now that I know where to look also, THERE IT IS:
  10. YAY Duke!! Now he knows where to look! Sorta seems like a location that would cause a lot of wear from the hose... Maybe the tags got lost?
  11. Couldn't find that oil plate... you'd think it would be mounted right near either the filler or filters! ButHERE'S an odd detail for you!! ? Probably too small to reproduce in 1/24... Assuming you saw this listing: https://rmsothebys.com/en/auctions/mc16/monaco/lots/r240-1968-ferrari-275-gts4-nart-spider-by-scaglietti/238806
  12. I did look to see what I have in my files for 275's and was surprised to see I have indeed seen a Spyder, alas a long time ago when my digital camera was lacking quality... also, the car didn't have any doors/etc open. The only other two I have seen in the flesh also didn't have anything open. So that only leaves Ye Ol' Internet, I am afraid... As for that oil plate, perhaps other cars within the 275 line could help? (like the GTS?)
  13. Nice! I sold a lot of my unbuilt Ferrari F1 kits because I know so little about them, I can't detail them... so it is nice to see one built by another person!
  14. One of my favorite Italeri kits! Built mine many moons ago... I think this was the kit where I learned not to add too much glue between the taillight panel and the rear quarters!! By the way, in case I have some in my files, are you still looking for any detail pics?
  15. Looks good so far! My very first Lotus kit arrived here and I am sorta afraid to try it out after seeing your build! ?
  16. My '74 Javelin, only because it hadn't been restored yet and I never knew for sure if I would ever get to where I was going... and back...
  17. Hmmm, ok so that makes at least 2 of us! Does seem a little unusual.
  18. From here, looks like a super-clean build! :-)
  19. OK... need to ask............ how come you built two? ?
  20. HI all Does anyone know if there are photoetch/detail parts out there for the Revell Corvette C7R? I see that Scale Motorsport makes a pricey set (https://scalemotorsport.com/products/corvette-c7r-super-detail-kit) but what about a standard small etch sheet? Can't find one anywhere, which surprises me. Curious...
  21. Didn't score the Welly model at Rite Aid... As for why I would need those wheels, I plan on building a certain vehicle, one that was on a TV show... ehem... ?
  22. THANKS! Looking at the pics I am reminded that, as with EVERY paint job that I was actually happy with, SOMETHING went wrong... if I remember correctly, I dropped the rear window as I was getting ready to install it! Always SOMETHING... and people wonder why I end up wanting to just sell everything and become (more of a )hermit??
  23. THANKS folks! One thing this build reminds me of... painting black trim... ?
  24. THANKS folks! I had planned on using decals, but ended up spraying the stripes... seeing as I have done that I think only once, I am surprised this attempt came out so well!
