Tim! Thank you so much for participating in dscV16! Your Bantam just blew the doors off the other 421 Entries, and there were some plenty fantastic builds!! We consider it an honor that you entered that amazing model. It - and the other exceptional Entries really gave our judges a workout. Thank you for the kind words about our Event. We did not want the Coronavirus to beat us out of 2020, so we hit upon the idea of the Virtual Venue. We’re very happy it was so well received, and we truly enjoyed presenting it. One more note, if I may. We’re very proud of the awards. We wanted them to be attractive, classy, and unique. Glad you liked them! Congratulations on your well-earned wins!! Come see us next April at Desert Scale Classic 17! -Danno-

Congratulations on your achievements, Steve! The awards were well-earned. Your Fury was killer and your 442 W30 was just exquisite!!! Actually, you - and all the other competitors - honored us by participating. We had a blast and we’re extremely gratified that dscV16 was so well received! danno

Superb! I think this is the first time I’ve seen one built. Beautiful build. Close friend of mine owns the real, true 1:1 car. He’ll be excited to see your model when I show him this thread. He has completely restored the car to its championship condition, with many of the original guys pitching in their knowledge and expertise to assure its authenticity. It was quite a restoration process. Most of the original components were tracked down and acquired (the car had been somewhat parted out, mostly as souvenirs). The car is being shown, fired up for cacklefests, and has made a very limited number of exhibition runs since the restoration was completed. He jokes the biggest problem has been trying to source original, unused period-correct nitro!

Excellent! I’ve always admired that color combo on a vintage Chevy. They just carried it beautifully.

As many people have pointed out, the Moebius compartment body is far different than the LA County squads such as the Emergency! rigs. To accurately replicate an LA County rig you have two choices: either buy the Ranger Detail Technologies multi-media kit, or, scratch build. The booger is the ‘pillowed’ doors which Ranger has covered expertly. To scratch build it, you’ll spend much more of your valuable time to get it close. Plus, the Ranger kit has everything (I mean EVERYTHING) to do it right - mirrors, running boards, light bar, wheels, tires, DECALS, and a myriad of other details. And, everything is accurate, not close. Plus, building tips and an assembly booklet that covers the vehicle very thoroughly. If you want to just build a truck that looks similar to an LA County Squad, go forth, but it won’t be accurate. In the end, you’ll probably spend much more sourcing the “box” and individual components. Not to mention the time and effort to reinvent this wheel.

Leslie, Misha, Tim, Thank you for the kind thoughts. We are very happy with the way it turned out . . . the programming and appearance of the website met and even exceeded our expectations and even our hopes! Misha, we missed the barbeque, too. We just couldn't figure out how to provide virtual burgers and virtual dogs for everyone! LOL. (We'll keep working on that. ?) Thanks for your participation, and congratulations on your successes. Your Entries were obviously exceptional! Please pass the word along to others and invite everyone you know to check it out. We're flattered by the response so far and we plan to leave the site up throughout the year. And, remember, Desert Scale Classic 17 is only 10-1/2 months away!! -danno- -

Well THAT will guarantee that hardly anyone will see it or know about the accomplishments of many regular members of the board. And, I can write in great BIG obnoxious fonts size, too. Normal sized font doesn't work for you? -
Everything came together nicely and actually finished up a little early. So, we've unveiled the winning Entries at dscv16.com. Thanks for your interest, and thanks to all who participated! dscV16 - The Virtual Venue Model Car Championship

Squad 51
Danno replied to 1967RMP's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
E.J., it’s important to remember the Squad used in filming the series went through some minor changes from one season to another, so the thing to do is focus on your preferred version and model that. The changes were extremely minor - mostly the configuration of equipment carried in the bed and the “biggest” being the type of two-way radio antenna on the roof. Otherwise, the rig(s) appear the same for a modeler’s purposes. The biggest errors Squad 51 modelers make are (1) getting the running boards wrong and (2) getting the compartment body wrong. Los Angeles County fabricated both in their shops. Thus, any commonly / often used running boards and compartment bodies from parts boxes, sourced from common kits, or scratch built without good reference materials just don’t accurately capture the real deal. The Ranger Detail Technologies Kit nails replication of the real deal.
