1938 GMC Texaco Wrecker
mchook replied to mchook's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Thanks guys! -
I had to clean out the garage so I pulled it out (the first time in about 5 years) and left it over night. Of course it rained & the wind was crazy that night so it was covered in BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH the next day. It's a 70 & yea I know the boxes shouldn't be on the trunk but it needs a lot of work, including paint. So hopefully one day I'll have time & money to finish it.

Resin cab, 41 Chevy truck chassis and a 442 engine. I built the bumper, exhaust, grill, Manley wrecker boom & body from scratch. -

My sister went to a yard sale & bought them for me. Must be over 50 kits. She knows I build models but I build cars, not planes. Nice thought though. She laughed & said they're yours now, build them, sell them I don't care. So they'll be on ebay soon!

Thanks for the help guys.

I hope someone here can help. I have this 38 GMC resin cab that has no glass for it. I made the windshields so they fit in the opening nice but I'm not sure how to glue them in without messing them up. I have some testors window glue but I've never had much luck with it in the past. Here's what I'm working on, any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I like the Boss, but you can't beat a flathead! Love the pics, I like it when people have fun with their builds.

Yup, it has everything but the body & chassis. Decals, seat covers, everything on the trees, even the dog.

Model T farm truck

I love it! Looks like the real thing! -
I started on the interior. Stretched the dash, found some seats & built the floor, engine cover & other goodies. Check out the skull shift knob, & cups!

Thanks David, new paint, what's that? Definitely going rat rod patina, I haven't been able to pull off a "new" paint job in years.

Thanks, but what's sweet is that Stepside Vette your building! Really nice work & I love the use of gift cards!

I got a little more work done on this thing. I built the body & I never had such a hard time! I've done lots of them before but it just wouldn't work for me. I had to walk away a few times before it ended up in a million pieces. The tow boom (which should have been the hard part) was built in a day, no problems yet, I just have to find some gears for the hand crank winch. I want it to look like a "Manley Wrecking Crane".

Just a little update. I made a new grill & did some work on the chassis. I used an Olds 442 engine because that's what I had.
-
O.k. I thought I was going to do the bus but it just isn't going to happen. I started this instead, it's a 1938 GMC cabover cab & I'm using a 41 Chevy for parts along with a few other things from here & there. This is all I've got so far, I'm not happy with that grill so I think I'm going to make my own. The rear will have a scratch built wrecker body & boom.

This looks great! I think if you use some pins from a watch band & cut them off short it would make great looking spark plugs for you. The Model T is one of my favorites, during the summer my daughter & I take out my father's 1923 T pickup every weekend.

Thanks guys for all the great compliments.

I bought this kit years ago & just opened it. I was looking forward to building it until I got a good look at it. The decals shown on the box aren't the ones that come with it, & the detail is pretty much non existent. I think the chassis is used in a few different amt/mpc kits & doesn't really fit any of them. Anyway, I decided to make another junker out of it and here it is. I didn't do much to it other than open the trunk & make it look like junk.

Thanks everyone for all the kind words. It was a lot of fun to build & it's nice to hear all the positive feedback!

Thanks, I made the seat from scrap styrene.
