Awww C'mon!! Really??
Xingu replied to MrObsessive's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Usually, to get the listing fee waived, you have to have some sort of monthly subscription. Be it one of their sponsored listing programs or store subscription. If you want to add a reserve price on an auction, they charge you. They get you at the end when your item sells. I usually end up paying eBay $80-100 a month in fees on about $900 in sales. They do run sales from time to time where the casual seller can get free listings though. -

I have done the same thing off and on since 1998 and did what you did.....start the auction price low. If goes high, good for me. If it goes low, good for the buyer. Some people start there auctions where it would be nice if they ended there. That is my only gripe about it. Give us a chance to get a bargain and bow out if it gets out of our comfort zone. Don't start us out bent over the proverbial barrel. One of my employees tried to make a living on eBay. It didn't go well and he came back begging for a job before he lost his house. I think it is the exception, when someone can sell on eBay and call it their job. I do agree that it is pretty easy to get close to an hour into each item from start to finish, but a large percentage of folks do it in their spare time to supplement their income and do not build in the actual time associated with selling an item. Whoever said the auctions were free doesn't understand how eBay nickle and dimes you to get their cut. It is far from free. It costs a lot more to sell there now than it did years ago. -

I don't mind the parts sellers, they provide a service. Some do set their prices pretty high though. I have some incomplete kits that I may just end up selling parts out of. I will probably start at $3 for stuff though (not $15). For some folks, I think eBay is their LHS. They just pay the going rate. People bash eBay a lot, but it gives you an opportunity to get kits that you may have otherwise never seen for sale. -
When did color fall out of favor?
Xingu replied to Lunajammer's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I believe the most popular colors for the new Challengers has been black and graphite gray. I also think black and gray are the 2 main interior colors. I do like that they offer the old school vibrant colors as an option, but it is the minority that actually buys them. -

Some people want to be seen, some people want to blend in with the crowd. The sheep far outnumber the adventurous. I have owned a few orange cars and a pea green station wagon with an air foil on the back. Apparently it needed the additional down force. Manufacturers will cater to the masses and sometimes offer a color or option that is out of the ordinary, but you usually have to pay a premium for it. -
There is a documentary out on Ed Force One, now that it has been retired.

I have had maybe a dozen of these in my 49 years and I have fallen asleep during at least half of them. It is loud, but rhythmic and apparently that is all I need to relax and fall asleep. Go figure. It is amazing what those things can see. You can look at the film and never see what the experts are trained to pick out. Hopefully they find the cause of your pain Harry.

The trick is to only install the top lug nut. Only good for short distances though.

Going Overboard With Progress
Xingu replied to American 185 Heavy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
There is forum software out there that does this. We are not using that software. -
Yes it can. I am building mine to match my 1:1, except for the Hemi.

Constant paint can bulges, what to do?
Xingu replied to aurfalien's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Your house must be sitting on an ancient Indian burial ground or something. There is some sort of paranormal activity going on there. I have only ever had one spray can bulge. It was in a very hot shed for about 10 years. -

When did color fall out of favor?
Xingu replied to Lunajammer's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Manufacturers will tell us that interior and exterior colors are limited to keep costs down (read that as keep profits up). I wonder what Dodge's sales numbers are for the hi impact colors on the new Challengers and Chargers compared to the basic white, black & gray? -
Just added that '70 MPC Challenger to my list of kits to keep an eye out for. Nice deal you got there.

I laid down OK and did not run. It took a little more than one can to paint this model and when I put the clear on I noticed it was still thin in a few spots. It has too much flake for my taste though, but I knew that was going to be the case when using this paint.

What did you see on the road today?
Xingu replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I don't feel bad about the Camaro. You can build a brand new one from aftermarket parts now, including the body. -
Thanks all. I like the color, but not sure if I like it with that much flake in it. If I hadn't straightened the chassis, the right front wheel would be about 3/8" in the air. If it didn't straighten, I guess I would of put crinkle wall slicks on it and displayed it leaving the line at a drag strip. I wanted to use redline tires, but I didn't have any in 1/24.

Still practicing and still trying to do a little more on each model as far as details go. On this model I learned that I need to plan out every step and color choice before I start. Forgot to paint the rear side marker light trim before I put the decals on., so not as clean as it should have been. The grill and rear light panel were tricky and took some effort to get "good enough". I tried to mold in the six pack hood scoop. It was a good plan, poorly executed. Wanted to try the Testors One Coat Lacquer, so went with the Lime Ice green for a "similar to" factory color choice. Tried to put a few more details in the interior and chassis areas (excess decal has since been trimmed from underside of body). They look good from about 5 feet away. This was built from an open kit that I bought and surprisingly, all the parts were there as most were already removed from the trees. The chassis was warped, so I heated it up in a pan of water and gently flexed it back into shape.

Saw a Delorean going to work this morning and an Olds 442 on the way home. Usually don't get the car show on the road until the weekends. -
Losing My Sight------Update.......some improvement!
Xingu replied to MrObsessive's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Sorry to hear about this Bill. This is a fairly common problem and the doctor's know how to fix and treat it. Get a massage bed, the one with the hole for your face, it will be easier to sleep on. You may be able to rent one from a medical supply store. -
That would be the trade off. It's expensive but maybe you could actually touch it after you painted it.

No, I have Photoshop. Watched a How-To video on YouTube. -

2 minutes on YouTube can do wonders. I do not know what the actual color is supposed to be though.
