  1. Still practicing and still trying to do a little more on each model as far as details go. On this model I learned that I need to plan out every step and color choice before I start. Forgot to paint the rear side marker light trim before I put the decals on., so not as clean as it should have been. The grill and rear light panel were tricky and took some effort to get "good enough". I tried to mold in the six pack hood scoop. It was a good plan, poorly executed. Wanted to try the Testors One Coat Lacquer, so went with the Lime Ice green for a "similar to" factory color choice. Tried to put a few more details in the interior and chassis areas (excess decal has since been trimmed from underside of body). They look good from about 5 feet away. This was built from an open kit that I bought and surprisingly, all the parts were there as most were already removed from the trees. The chassis was warped, so I heated it up in a pan of water and gently flexed it back into shape.
  2. Saw a Delorean going to work this morning and an Olds 442 on the way home. Usually don't get the car show on the road until the weekends.
  3. That is some serious money! I have been around $10k street races and thought that was a lot.
  4. Sorry to hear about this Bill. This is a fairly common problem and the doctor's know how to fix and treat it. Get a massage bed, the one with the hole for your face, it will be easier to sleep on. You may be able to rent one from a medical supply store.
  5. That would be the trade off. It's expensive but maybe you could actually touch it after you painted it.
  6. 2 minutes on YouTube can do wonders. I do not know what the actual color is supposed to be though.
  7. My guess is there is a way in Photoshop to replace colors. Maybe Harry knows how it is done. I have been poking around in mine but don't see how. Of course, I only use about 5% of Photoshop is capable of doing.
  8. Very nice shots Ed. There are lightning sensors that you can attach to your camera, so all you need to do is turn it on. There are DIY versions that are supposedly pretty easy to make as well.
  9. Nice. I like the blacked out treatment. Interested to hear if others have had trouble with the black BMF. I have a few models I would like to use it on.
  10. Technically, the A-Team van was brought up in post #5 Forgot about the Magnum PI stuff.
  11. Well, you could just subscribe. It would be cheaper in the long run and they will bring it to your door or leave it at your local Post Office. As a fairly new modeler, I find the articles interesting and helpful. I can see where, if you have been in the hobby for awhile, it seems like all they show you is nice photos of models and tips you already know about. It falls into the old saying "you can't please all the people, all of the time"
  12. I honestly thought the road looked to nice, uniform and flat.
  13. I am impressed. Not a single steaming pile of poop has been posted. I think this group is finally maturing.
  14. It was the driver's side glass. Wasn't warped bad, but enough to give me fits and a glue print to remind me. I have 5 other Tamiya kits waiting for their turn. I think I will save the Enzo for last though. Overall, I really like the Tamiya kits.
  15. The A-Team van, the Ironsides van, I think the '71 Cuda convertible was kitted for several shows. Miami Vice had several cars (I personally was a fan of the speed boats featured in the show). I also think they rreissued one of the 4x4 kits for the Fall Guy. Man, there are so many kits that the companies reissued for various TV shows (whether it matched the shows car or not).
  16. That was the step I forgot/skipped. I know I need to use my Dupli-Color primer, but for some reason (voices in my head) I decided to use a light coat of Tamiya. This should be the last time I make that mistake.
  17. There are 4 coats of HOK clear on it. The paint was already crazed before the clear. It took it as an opportunity to try the HOK clear from the airbrush. I usually use Tamiya from spray cans. I am happy with the color, but not the application. The 959 has one of the ugliest interiors I have seen. Really, do not like the multi-color seats in the 1:1 reference photos. Was why I decided to see how a tan interior would come out.
  18. Well, never let it be said that I do not show my failures. This model will sit near my bench as a reminder of what can happen when you skip important steps. Everything was going well until I painted the body. I lightly primed the body with Tamiya white primer and sprayed HOK True Blue over it. My guess is either not enough primer or I should have used the white automotive primer that was right next to the Tamiya. The entire paint job has what I am guessing everyone calls crazing. I also left a nice glue print on the driver's side glass. The glass did not fit the body well and I decided to use Tamiya Extra Thin Cement for the extra strength. It flowed a little to well and I ended up leaving a print as I was holding the glass in place. There are a few other minor issues as well. The photos do not show how bad the paint job really is. I could have stripped it and resprayed, but it will sit on my bench as a visual reminder of what can go wrong. The kit itself is very nice. I had the issue with poorly fitting glass and getting the body on the chassis was a bit tricky, but other than that the kit was very nice and went together well.
  19. Thanks again to landman (Pat) for sending the decals I needed to finish this model. I got them installed on the headlight door and wing uprights today.
  20. This is why we will, eventually, only have places like Hobby Lobby (an aisle in a big box store). I like to go to hobby shops and put my hands on the items I want to buy. Whenever I go to a new area for work, the first thing I look up is local hobby shops to see if there are any nearby.
  21. My wife - "does paint have to smell so bad", "is it done yet", "do you have to do that inside", "how many more do you need". The list goes on and on.
