'67 Dodge Charger, MPC or Revell?
Xingu replied to Roadrunner's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The Revell kit has good interior and exterior detail. Chassis is also well detailed. -
What did you see on the road today?
Xingu replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Not actually on the road, but in the lobby of an office building I was working in today. Wasn't expecting to see an immaculate silver and red, '63 split window Corvette when I walked up to the door. There was a little bit of Chevrolet history on the plaque and it also stated that the building owners usually put art on display in their lobbies. They were going with a different kind of art for this building. The car was on loan from the plaque called the "current and original owner". -
Vinyl top on the Superbird is easy. It already has the top and trim, you just have to paint it. Flat black sprayed from a distance works great.

All you can ask for is to get better with each model you build. Can't wait to see the finished product.

Thanks for the kind words. I had a brain cramp and never even thought to use clear tape. I was taping the straight edges and painting, but it bled under my Tamiya tape on the first two that I tried. I am sure I didn't get the edge down well enough as I have not had any other issues with this tape. I tend to learn from my mistakes by the fourth or fifth time I make it, so I will have perfectly painted glass sometime next year One thing I did learn by building this model is that it is very satisfying to knock one out over a weekend. I am going to try and acquire a few more quick and easy kits for when I just want a quick weekend project.

I endorse this statement 100%.

I have never actually owned one. They do like nice, but man are they expensive.

I did. I tried taping it off, but had trouble with the radius corners. I also didn't get the tape edge down well and it bled under. I made do and decided to practice a steady hand.... I need more practice. I actually had a very hard time seeing the edge on the clear plastic. I tried a dark background as well as a light one. Any tricks on making the frosted edge stand out to make it easier to tape?

Candy Colors: Looking for advice or how to tips
Xingu replied to 69NovaYenko's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I did my first candy color paint job this weekend. It was also only the second time using the airbrush. I used House of Kolor paints. I actually got mine from a friend who premixed it for me. I had him mix it 2:1 just like the airbrush ready paints you get from TCP Global. I found it surprisingly easy to get a good result. I shot Kandy Red over Silver. -
Box is dated 1991. This was my first Tamiya kit and it turned out to be a nice weekend project. I would guess it is only 60-65 parts and makes a nice curbside display. It is painted HOK Kandy Apple Red over Silver with a black and red two-tone interior. You have the option of doing right or left hand drive. I made a few mistakes. Some I could correct or cover, some I have to live with. Overall I am happy with this one, especially the paint.

Thanks! I finished this one earlier today and will post it in the Under Glass section.

Tuner Model Manufactory - distributor?
Xingu replied to Nacho Z's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Nothing in the USA listed on their website. There is some stuff listed on eBay right now that would come from Canada. -
In high school, I mowed my shop teachers lawn. He bought beer 20 cases at a time and stacked them in his kitchen. I don't remember seeing him drunk at school though. We did have a few teachers and an awful lot of students get busted in an undercover drug sting though.

This is what happens when you do not order the paint for your other models in time, you start another one. This will be my first Tamiya kit. While it is not a difficult or highly detailed kit, I have been impressed with the fit and overall quality. Painted most small parts last night and started assembling the suspension earlier today. I have a friend that owns a custom car shop and he lets me go thru his left over paints. I brought home some HOK silver and Kandy Apple Red last week. I had heard and experienced that different paints spray differently, so I wanted to try out the HOK paint. I am pleased at how easily the process went. Primed the parts with Tamiya Fine Surface Primer and then sprayed the silver until I got complete coverage. After a few hours I went back and sprayed the Kandy Apple Red. Hard to see the metallic in the photos, but I think it came out awesome. I think it will look even better once it gets cleared. I am really glad that I finally decided to try airbrushing. I feel I have so much more control when painting.

Good looking kid there Joe. I think there were 500 people in my graduating class.

uncommon hot rod engine choice
Xingu replied to modelfink's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Small turbo diesel. Not knowledgeable enough to point you to any kits that would have one though. -
Looking forward to see this one finished. My first car was a '79 Rally Nova. It was the brown and tan version. Someone had repainted it a darker brown.

I have come back and looked at this several times. It is a beautiful model.

Well executed and it the right color.

resin or aftermarket floor shifter
Xingu replied to Johnt671's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
It should have been on the website. It is also in the pinned aftermarket vendor topic. replmincomd@aol.com
