Pirelli unveils 2017 F1 tyre
Xingu replied to afx's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I liked small tire racing, it was exciting. Wide tires will increase speeds as grip in the corners will be increased, so maybe there will be some great passes next year. -
Leaves can blow in from the diorama next door Excellent work Richard.

Thanks for the link, it will come in handy for this and future builds.

If the thieves and scammers would turn their powers to good, we would all have free energy by now and cancer would be cured. Thieves, scammers and drug addicts are some of the most imaginative people I have come across.

I think it must be more than peripheral vision problems that my friend has. He is more worried about hitting pedestrians, as he lives in DC. He doesn't think he will be able to pass his next eye exam. He is in his 60's and otherwise in good health. I wouldn't know what to do with myself if i couldn't go for a drive whenever I wanted to. Some folks have Type 2 necks. The ones with their swivel apparatus fused together. I used to get angry with others much quicker than I do now. My work has recently taken me to several hospitals for different projects. After seeing many of the folks in there, my life isn't so bad. If it takes me a few minutes longer to get to where I am going, so be it. Much to the surprise of those who know me, I have mellowed with age. Now if that guy would have sat thru the green arrow, I would have gone and knocked on his window. I would be angry with him, but would ask him if he was alright.

Is it me or is it my builds?
Xingu replied to 72 Charger's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
In my humble opinion, this happens to everyone at some point and often goes in cycles. I for one have to pick and choose which threads I get involved with. It is usually a subject that I am curious about or a build that I know I am going to do eventually. I am not a very good modeler, so I usually don't get involved with the technical builds and modifications that the more experienced builders do. There are also A LOT of active threads on this forum (which is a very good thing) and it is hard to keep up with them all. I usually mark the site read a few times a week, just so I don't have to go thru multiple pages of unread posts to find the few that are interesting to me. I wouldn't take it personal. I have a few threads going and they usually don't get much interest. I post the stuff I want others to see, if they comment fine and if they don't, that's fine too. Don't throw your models in the bin. Build them because you want to. If you need input from others post up specific questions. -
Posting Your Build on the Other Guy’s Thread
Xingu replied to afx's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have noticed this happens from time to time. If someone is asking for opinions on how to do something, I think it is OK to post a photo or a link to your own thread that supports your explanation on how to do it. I don't think it is appropriate to post photos just to show you built the same model or what color combination you chose. It is inevitable that a certain percentage of threads will get hijacked or sidetracked by another persons random post or photo. Sometimes it fits with what is going on in the original thread, sometimes it goes way off track. It happens on every forum I am a member of, whether model, fish or photography. All you can hope for is that the individual members police themselves and refrain from doing this or joining in when a thread goes off track. -
I have a friend who does this. He has poor peripheral vision and figures it is better safe than sorry. He probably will not pass the next eye exam when he renews his license. Some sort of degenerative disease that affects his eyesight.

There may be a few customizers that try to pull it off. Wouldn't be much of a bed, but who cares

I saw the dog cages in the link. That gives me a few ideas when I finally build a wagon.

Wonder what's next from Round2 AMT ?
Xingu replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Call it a 'Devil 340' I will still buy it. -
I am extremely happy with my color choices.

Sprayed color tonight with no issues. Didn't change a thing. Not sure why the primer was so difficult. It is all a learning experience. As time goes on I will (hopefully) be able to diagnose and fix issues like this. I must say, airbrushing is no where near as difficult as I thought it would be (knocks on wood)

Automotive (and other) toys from our childhood
Xingu replied to Harry P.'s topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Harry showed the ad for regular darts that were clearly marketed as toys. I just don't remember ever seeing them. -
I am using a Paasche H with Paasche compressor. Pressure set at 25psi. I will check into the possibility of a cracked tip. Thanks for the info.

Automotive (and other) toys from our childhood
Xingu replied to Harry P.'s topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
The VERY first thing I did when I got lawn darts (early 70's) was throw it as high in the air as I could and then went to stand under it to see how close I could get to it. I never got hit with one. I guess there were many other kids out there that were not as lucky as I was. I don't believe regular darts were directly marketed toward small children. Lawn darts were marketed as a toy. -
I decided to try my hand at airbrushing tonight. Just putting a light coat of primer down because I wanted to see how it went. Every so often I would get a large drop that made it to the body. My guess is it was pooling at the tip and eventually blowing out onto the model. You can see the drops at the top of the door and on the seat in the photo below. Many more fell basically straight down onto the paper I laid down in the booth. What causes this and how can I correct it. I was using pre-thinned MCW primer.

Kenneth Howard A.K.A. Von Dutch
Xingu replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Did Mr. Horsepower somehow become Thrush at some point? Logos are awful similar. -

I believe that is an early logo for Thrush mufflers. -
Devel Sixteen - the craziest hypercar concept
Xingu replied to CFMgarage's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I saw an NHRA video not long ago that says Top Fuel cars are making 13-14k hp. It is an impressive feat that they can get any of that power to the ground. -
I didn't know Macs had different keys. Will remember that for the future. At least they both use the V key

Ctrl V is what I think Harry meant.
