  1. Slowly plugging away. Interior has a few coats of Tamiya Champagne Gold that I did not like (came out far more silver than gold). Put a single coat of Tamiya Light Sand Metallic over the Champagne Gold. This was a lot closer to what I was trying to achieve. Should be painting the body sometime this weekend.
  2. Tom - One man's junk is another man's treasure trove of much need slant six model parts.
  3. I think they only paint NASCAR engines when they are trying to hide something
  4. The filter material they use is the same stuff that is used in aquarium filters. Check around and you can get bulk filter material pretty cheap. Just have to cut it to size.
  5. Looks like the 1:1 car sites call it light or medium green / dark green. Will have to look at a few paint samples to try and match. Thanks for the help. I have saved a few reference photos.
  6. Already on the Neptune Green. Like you said, all my research only showed the green interior. What would the darker color be?
  7. I have always liked that color combination. I bought this airbrush and compressor for a reason, may as well learn how to use it. Thanks for the info. I had heard of Scale Finishes, but not MCW.
  8. Starting to plan out my next build. Does anyone know a source for 1955 Chevy colors, Harvest Gold and Indian Ivory. Would prefer a rattle can, but can shoot it from my airbrush if needed (after a lot of practice). Is there something that is pretty close to those colors and readily available?
  9. Squished photos sometimes has to do with the screen resolution you have your monitor set at. The only squished photo that I have seen on the site so far is Harry's screenshot.
  10. Well executed build. Thanks for sharing.
  11. Channel West Coast, I believe.
  12. I figured the body seam was an easy mod to start with. I see on the wonderful builds on this site and figure I have to start somewhere. I helped a friend of mine hot rod a '39 Plymouth Coupe. We tubbed it, modified the suspension and dropped a 318 in it. Was a fun car. We just didn't seal the interior well enough and exhaust fumes kept trying to kill us.
  13. There is a 1:1 for sale at RK Motors in Charlotte. In case you need any reference photos.......or if you $459k.
  14. Is there a Preview Post function that I can use before submitting a topic or post? I have looked around but can't seem to find it (which usually means it is hiding in plain sight).
  15. I started my first build in about 35 years, the AMT '41 Plymouth 2N1 Coupe. Actually this is my mulligan. I originally started building a 1/32 Lindberg 1925 Ford Model T Street Rod, but couldn't find 2 pieces in the kit that would go together without some serious massaging. I put that kit aside until I develop better skills and far more patience. I plan to build the Plymouth in the stock configuration. In my research, I noted that the front body seam is in a different location so I am attempting to make it more represent the 1:1 car. I still have work to do. Here are a few photos. Have not gotten to far yet and I intend to take my time, so some time may pass before the next update. I am open to critiques, but keep in mind, this is basically my first build and I have limited skills
  16. Welcome! Is that a CRT monitor? I heard about those in history class I missed the first half of '67.
  17. Not saying you advocate any of that. I just think shared platforms is a 'foot in the door' or 'give them an inch and they take a mile' scenario. I have no idea where this fear of Government has come from all of a sudden. I used to not care about what they did.
  18. Sounds about right. A friend of mine had a short block many years ago. He searched forever to find heads (pre internet) and the only ones he found were in really bad shape. The guy wanted like $10k for them. He ended up selling the short block for $20k. This was probably early 80's.
  19. That would be such a street sleeper. Did they come in a lighter shade of blue that year?
  20. That would be one expensive display of horsepower sitting in someones shop.
  21. When the whole industry standardizes, it will be easier for the Government to regulate and control. Our Government cannot run itself efficiently, let alone other industries. That was the jump I made. The Government has already tried to crush the old cars. to give the illusion they are cleaning up the environment by getting rid of the old gas guzzling, ozone depleting dinosaurs of the past (which I love and will hold onto until I die). Government control and regulation will have far reaching effects. Eventually there will be no current fleet. All the old cars will be obsolete and only viewed in museums. There will be one vehicle and since it will be self driving, it will be owned and operated by the Government. I do agree that the parts stores do currently sell BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH. New vehicle production is already highly automated. If it is simplified and standardized even more, it could become nearly fully automated. There will be jobs for designers, engineers and programmers. The middle class fabrication and assembly jobs will be further lost. I agree that lowered production costs, and/or higher import taxes, are needed to help provide and keep US jobs. Corporate tax loopholes need to also be closed. IMO many automakers solely make decisions on how it personally affects their board members and not the majority of their workers or even the consumers. If the incentive for them to take their manufacturing plants overseas was taken away or penalized, they would adjust their business model. Hopefully that wouldn't be to the detriment of the average middle class factory worker. I think we still need diversity in the automotive industry. This pushes innovation and safety and still lets us buy a vehicle that fits our individual personalities. I want to be able to pick a vehicle that suits my needs. Not just decide between the light gray one or the dark gray one.
  22. A choice had to be made. Drip rails or mirrors. I like the story behind the build. I wish I had all the old Mopars I used to own.
