Round 2 January 2017 Product Spotlight
Xingu replied to MrObsessive's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Just remember that if you post your opinion on a public forum, such as this one, you will get comments good and bad. That opinion may also be the same opinion that person posted last week, last year or in the last thread about new releases. What I have noticed is that we have all lost the ability to scroll on to the next post and let others have their opinion without injecting our own. With Round2 - I have no idea what they paid for all the old tools. I have no idea what condition the old tools are in. I have no idea what their budget is each year. I have no idea how much profit they made in previous years. I have no idea what their business plan is or how they intend to recoup the money they have spent. I have no idea how many kits they sell each year. I am sure they have a plan for old and new tools, but since I do not work there I have no idea what it is. I am just happy there are companies out there that are still producing reasonably priced plastic model kits. Now my opinion - We should be glad that there are still plastic models to be bought. I feel we are a small, very dedicated, percentage of the model buying public. We look for perfection, or at least a good attempt at it. I do not know what the average age of the members of this forum is, but I guess it would be up there a little bit. This means a lot of the folks (or at least a lot of the regular posters here) have seen and built all of the old kits, several times. Of course you are looking for something new or a reproduction of your first car, but there are still new people (maybe not as many as in the past) getting into, or back into, the hobby. These reissues will be new to them. Everyone is not on eBay, so they don't always know you can get some of the old kits cheap. They go to a local store and see the model on the shelf. -
Getting back home is the first real step toward recovery. You can now get back to a more familiar routine. Get well soon.

Fine work Kevin. Here is to a more settled 2017.

Looks like you had a busy year. I really need to try one of those Olds. They are cool looking cars.

I got the 1mm & 2mm last week. Outstanding on small interior items, like ashtrays, door handles and window cranks. You can even sand some flash off of chrome parts and touch up the exposed areas. I did mechanical drafting for nearly 30 years (before switching to CAD) and it feels more natural for me to use the pen than a brush.

The long ram intake looks awesome under the hood. I don't think they were the greatest performers, but man they sure look cool. -
I could stare at that Cobra all night. Sometimes (but only sometimes) work trumps model building.

Model building is a great hobby. It is not nearly as expensive as a lot of the alternatives out there. If you are just getting back in, ask around and see what others would recommend as a straight forward out of the box build. I remember trying to build the P-61 Black Widow as a kid, I never finished it. I have a new one sitting in my stash, but am no where near ready to try and tackle it.

Round 2 January 2017 Product Spotlight

I do see one of those white '71 Demons sitting on my shelf at some point, but nothing else jumped out at me. -
Another group of outstanding models Curt. You had a very productive year. No way that I could only pick 1 (or 3) favorite.

Your Red Bull F1 car looks amazing. I love those cars, but don't see myself building one anytime soon.
-
The Rat truck stands out for me. Would love to see that one in a dio.

Part of my New Year resolution is to finish what I started. So I got back to working on this model. Painted the 2-tone interior (still need to work on my masking skills) and shot clear on the body. The darker green is Neptune Green and the lighter shade is Sea Mist Green. I think the Sea Mist is too light, but it will do.

Welcome to the forum Chris. Looking forward to seeing your work.

You can tell that a lot of time went into the details....and it was all worth it. Outstanding model.

Quality builds! I keep going back to the GTO. I love the color.

'49-'51 Merc Dogleg
Xingu replied to Joe Handley's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I agree 100% with this post. I am curious to see how this turns out though. The concept sketch intrigues me. It does not remove the dog leg, but splits it into two segments. Of the photos shown, the only one I feel that may have improved on the original profile of the car is the Hirohata car. The dog leg is still implied on that car, IMO. The Coddington car is ugly, but I think that about most of his cars. To some, customizing is to change everything even if they should have stopped at a handful of mods. -
I would like to stumble across a deal for that Dodge truck. I would also like to own the 1:1 version.
