Inspiration for this build came from a Brockway T245 wrecker I saw at Macungie last year. Thanks to Redneckrigger for the Holmes wrecker body (off a First Gear NAPA B-Mack) and Dave at AITM for the 361 cab, tanks and batt boxes. The wrecker body was intended for a different build but being metal, It would have been to hard to modify. I have a Pete Wrecker that I built in the 80's; I was never wild about the build, color didn't look right and the wrecker body seems bland. The First Gear Holmes fits the frame like it was built for it, and the cab will take some tweaking to get it to sit right, but most of these conversion require some work. Frame was originally painted with Testors rattle can flat black and was in good shape, so it just got a quick overcoat. Cab is being cleaned up, then the fitting begins. Not sure if I'll do a WIP. Not much to show. -

Looking good, I'm working my own 361 project but no where near this far along. -
Rubber Duck Mack help
Warren D replied to Twokidsnosleep's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Another vote for contacting Dave at AITM directly. I was looking for some stuff that was listed as out of stock and, while it took a few months, he did cast the parts. A lot depends on the condition of his molds, if he has to make new ones it'll take longer. He also has a large following! -

Tri-Axle Tag Axle Source

Thanks, I've ordered from him before. I didn't see it on his list the first time around, the scan I have is less than readable. -
Tri-Axle Tag Axle Source

I'll try Gary, thanks. Didn't see them on his list. KFS would be 1/24 scale, I've had trouble with the difference in the past. -
Looking for a tag axle (retractable on the real thing) for a triaxle. Jamie appears out of stock, wondering if anyone has another source? Thanks

Another great build! Your builds amaze me.

Granite State ATCA Show 2019

I usually get to truck shows early. Truckers are early birds and tend to leave early. I was on the road about 5am that day, I actually prefer to travel at that hour. -
Sorry, my dry (arid!) sense of humor.

Good show with a great turnout. Only a couple of huskies, maybe they were tired from the big gathering in Cortland, NY the previous weekend. There were so many Macks I thought I took a wrong turn and went to Macungie! Biggest Mack I've seen, I couldn't touch the bulldog on the hood and I'm over 6'. Planetary gears in the rear. 1955 Mack LTL 1926 Mack Dodge Bighorn The rest: https://pbase.com/baywing/granite2019

Looks like a great idea! -
I appreciate the responses and ideas. I think I'm going to try shooting the body color on some clear or white decal film and then cutting the stripe instead of painting it directly on the cab. It's going to be tough to keep all the stripes parallel regardless of method.
-
in the attached photo, the white line points to the darker body color stripe that I have to paint. The stripes below are a seperate decal as are the stripes above the line I have to paint. The problem is that the painted stripe needs to be perfectly located and it would appear easier to apply the decals first, leaving a gap where the painted stripe will go, mask it off and shoot it. This presumes the decals don't come off with the mask. It's a very risky task even without the prospect of the applied decals peeling off.

Sorry it's been so long, things were just hectic. Here's a pic of what I'm doing, Pigpen's Mack from Convoy. I have the decals from Model Truckin but they don't have the body color stripe in the middle. I'm trying to figure out how to do the paint stripe and end up with the top and bottom decals in proper alignment.
-
Thanks for all your thoughts. I have suspected that the decal to model bond is not strong enough and the decals will likely pull off with the masking material.
-
I have a difficult paint job coming up, the decals provided are missing a body color stripe between a pair of decal stripes. It looks like it will be best to place the decals first and then mask and shoot the body stripe. I always put a coat of clear gloss over the decals. Has anyone done this and does it work? The decals are expensive so I'd rather not have them pull off with the masking tape. Is there a good tape to use for this? I usually use Tamiya masking tape.
