Take a Moment and say a prayer
slant6 replied to JamesW's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I never really "got it" when people would tell me they remember exactly where they were and what they were doing during events like the space shuttle Challenger disaster or the Kennedy assassination, until 9/11/01. I got it on that day. I remember it like it was yesterday. I'm not a religious man, but my heart still goes out to all of those who lost somebody on that day. -
Well, I guess Im not gonna get outa this cheap. I live in a rented house (not that I d wanna burn down one I own either), so I really dont need a fire. I do have a couple more questions, if you guys dont mind. It sounds from the description that the fan should be outside the window, am I right with this assumption, or no? I only bring it up because this is a basement window, and in the winter the snow piles up next to in, and also, being outside, i would need something more or less watertight. As for the lighting, the light you see is a brand new neon light, but it sounds like you think I should be using something else, do you have suggestions for that?

I dont like satin black on to many cars, but this looks great! Awesome work!

Love it! Ive always thought that color looked great on these cars! A little off topic, but I wanna try it myself, how do you do the "overspray" effect on the undercarriage?

I need some help making a simple a possible exhaust system for my paint booth. I read a post recently about paint fumes igniting and exploding due to the fan used and would really like to avoid that. Here is my paint booth. and here's a shot of the window nearby, it still has the old dryer exhaust in it, so I assume I can use that. Im mostly concerned with not blowing myself up, but also the best/cheapest way to get the fumes out.

Im building a garage diorama, and Id like to add a dyno setup, the kind with the "roller" built into the floor that you drive the car up onto. Im fine with building that part, but what I dont know is about the machinery/computers that the car gets hooked up to. I was hoping maybe some of you might be able to help out with pictures, maybe some measurements for this equipment. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Come in Everyone! What's your 1:1?
slant6 replied to Jordan White's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Unfortunately, this car didnt work out. My only real requirement is that I can drive the car as soon as I buy it, and that wasnt gonna happen here. The owner said it would pass inspection, but needed a water pump before I could drive it. He sounded a little sketchy to me, so I had to walk away. -

This is technically my fiance's truck, but we carpool at the moment. 2003 Chevy Trailblazer. This is my car 1990 VW Corrado G60. This Picture is a couple years old. The car is not drivable at the moment and being sold, hopefully to make room for.... this!! If all goes well, Ill own this by the end of next week. I dont know what it is, but I cant get myself to go out and buy a "new" car, that will be reliable and have a warranty and what not. -
I opened my mailbox today to find not only my first issue of Model Car Magazine (I love it, its like the forum, but I can bring it to the can with me), but also the airbrush that I didn't expect to see for at least another week, nothing special, just a cheap one to replace the one I broke while learning, but exciting nonetheless.

How do you display your builds
slant6 replied to kobuzz's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have few display cases that were passed to me from work rather than making it to the dumpster. 2 Small glass ones that have hinged doors and fit around 6 to 8 models each, and one 6'x2'x2' tall lighted case that I put my "best" stuff in (you've all seen a couple Ferrari's displayed in it). My girlfriend hates it, but what can you do?, I love looking at my newest creations!!! She'll get over it!!! I'm gonna run outta room sooner or later though, guess we'll just need a bigger house. -
I recently picked up a kit of garage tools and various garage "stuff". I would like to build a garage diorama, mostly for the purposes of taking pictures of my models. Only thing is, I don't know what to use for the walls and floor, I was thinking of that foam posterboard stuff, what do you guys use, and how do you hold it all together? Im trying to keep this on the cheap by the way.

WOW!!! 25,800 + Views Is It A Record????
slant6 replied to Romell R's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Anybody can respond and bump their own thread countless times...You have to only count the comments/bumps that aren't his in order to have a more accurate total. -
I play D&D myself (yup I still play). I like the warhammer kits, but from what I see, they have just found a great way to screw (let me know if "screw" in that context is considered obscene here, I'm not sure) people out of hard earned money, just to play the game. A pencil paper and some dice have always been enough for me. But, to each his own, I suppose. It has been a really fun build though, Im just waiting for a can of Tamiya dull red so I can finish it up, since its a build for a friend, a had him hunt it down and buy it.

Yeah we do!!! I don't do "other models" to often, but it'd been nice to have dedicated spot to post 'em. I know Im not the only one, and I for one, would love to see other members "other builds".

I been putting together the base for the past couple of days. Since the motors, as small as they are made the "plane" a little front heavy, it has to be permanently mounted to the base. This turns out to work to my advantage, since I have have run out of space inside the kit to hide the battery box and switch. I made the battery box out of and old car stereo remote, cut it and glued it back together to fit the significantly smaller 12 volt battery. The switch was robbed for a neon light that I cut the cigarette lighter off of to hard-wire into a trunk light. The base wasn't deep enough to hide all these parts, so, I added some depth to it, using some foam packaging from a remote starter box, again salvaged from work. I get a lot of junk from work that goes a long way in modeling. I use one of my girlfriends hair ties to hold it in place so it wouldn't all pull apart. Then I measured and wrapped it in cardboard from a model box. Id like to take a moment to thank Kasie (my girlfriend) for her sacrifice/contribution to this build:). After that I glued the battery box and switch into place, under the base. Hope they hold, keep your fingers crossed. I figured since it has to be permanently attached, I might as well dress up the base a little. So using my limited diorama skills. I added some grass, bushes, tree stumps, and rocks. I even made a little tent out of some camo pant that have been lying around for just such an occasion. Thanks for lookin'!

Ill be watching this one. Ive been working on the Back to the Future cars (there at a stand still right now), and was thinking about trying to find the Ecto1 as well.
-
I don't know why, but something just screams model, I'm probably wrong, but I'm voting model anyway.
-
I had thought of some of that. The only saw I have is way to thick though. The ring on the back is a great idea! Thank you!
-
Thank you for the compliment! I can make a copy of the complete instruction sheet and email it to you, if you have a use for it. I agree, it would be great to use some of the parts for an off the wall car build, but a $60 for a new one, cant justify that. I almost dont want to give it back to my friend.

I'm helping a friends son with one of his Warhammer models, for those of you who dont know, its a role playing game, thats all I know about it. Any way, he's way to impatient to do any kind of good work and he wants this one to come out better than all his others. This is certainly a break form the norm for me, but its been fun so far. I thought it would be cool to make the fans in the jet engines spin, so I grabbed a couple of 12 volt motor out of a busted CD changer and mounted them inside the housings. Once I got the motors in and tested them, they spun waaaayyy to fast, so I wired some blue 3 volt LED's in series, this way each of the motors and the lights only get 3 volts each, and the motors slow down to a manageable speed. I mounted one light inside the bay and one under the nose as a search/landing light. Well, then we thought it would be fun if it we could hook up and Ipod, and have it play some dramatic war music. So, I pulled apart a set of ear buds and mounted them inside the bay. Forgot to take pictures of it though, but hears one of the headphone jack one the underside of the model. And my last picture. The step that Im hoping someone will be able to help me with. I had to cut out the molded in fans in order to make something that would spin. Im just not quite sure about how to make new ones. I kept the cones from the center, but Im still debating how to put new blades back on them and have them look somewhat realistic. Any Ideas?
