  10. This is about as close to a box stock build as I get. I love these olde AMT altered wheelbase kits, there's something about their ridiculous simplicity that speaks to me. That's probably from lusting over these kits in the Auto World catalog in the '60s. Given that these kits would seem to have a limited appeal based on their simplicity, it's amazing that AMT (Round 2) would spend the time and effort to re-tool this kit. The body is a whole new tooling, while the rest of the parts are based on the original parts, but they have been re-tooled. I suppose it's easier to re-tool off of existing parts, but still...I grabbed three of these kits (thanks, KK). I did make a few changes: -I used the injector stacks from the Rat Packer version of these kits instead of the blower. I reshaped the hole in the hood (longer and narrower) to accommodate the stacks. -I used the older hard plastic tires, the rubber ones in the kit are new and a faithful representation of the plastic ones. -I did not use the kit front wheels, too pretty for this build, I'm saving them for a future project. These wheels have only been seen in this kit and the Olds 85 version of these kits. -I made my own front firewall (not sure what to call it, what would normally support a radiator) to hang the gas tank on. I added a master cylinder and rear drum brakes as the kit has none, nor does the kit doesn't have any steering linkage from the firewall to the front axle, I didn't add one. -Paint is Tamiya Pearl Green with black and silver. -Decals are mostly from the kit, a nice selection is included. I added a few more contingency decals from the decal bin. Thanks for stopping by.... I'm clearing off the bench, I'm not sure what's next.... -RRR
  11. Nice build of an iconic kit. Beautiful paint job!! -RRR
  12. It looks like those slicks like they are from AMT/MPC. Available in a variety of their funny cars....-RRR
  13. I can get to page two if I'm tagged in the thread just as you did, otherwise, like many others I can't get beyond page 1...still waiting for the fix.... -RRR
  14. I think they are resin items? Sorry, I really don't remember the source.... -RRR
  15. Thanks! A few more pix here: https://public.fotki.com/jferren/wooly-bully-barracu/
  16. I knew I had another one. Made from the Hemi Under Glass kit (using two bodies to cut out and move the rear wheel wells forward).... -RRR
  17. I built the Mr. Speed with the stock AMT body and the Piranha chassis. One of the faves from my youth. I'd like to have the original box.... More pix here: https://public.fotki.com/jferren/mr-speed-53-studebaker-/ The Mustang was also issued in the plain box Blueprinter series..... -RRR
  18. Totally agree...this is a two week or so build. I'm hoping to finish up this weekend and post up... _RRR
  19. I picked up a few. I fondly remember drooling over this kit and many others in the Auto World catalog in my misspent youth. The body is clean and crisp with the added bonus of not having to sand off all of the scripts and emblems that would have been removed on a drag car. These are stupid simple kits, so keep that in mind. No brakes, no master cylinder, no steering linkage from the firewall to the axle. I'm almost done building one (with a few mods). Nice decal sheet, new rubber tires that faithfully reproduce the original plastic tires (which I prefer). The front wheels are gorgeous, the only time they have been minted was on this kit and the Olds 85 topless version of this series. The price of admission is almost worth it for the front wheels. If you've ever had any of the other series, Mustang, Chevy II, Tempest etc., you know what you're in for. Probably not for most builders as these kits are more basic than basic. I'm giving it a 10! -RRR
  20. Enamel is less likely to craze decals than lacquer will. As stated above, test.... -RRR
  21. Well, both KK and I moved back to the right coast many years ago and we lost track of most of the club members in the Pac NW. I heard that the club is no longer active and based on his age back then (this was 30 years ago), I would imagine he may have passed on by now. -RRR
  22. As promised, here is my original 1991 build influenced by the original Tim Boyd build and subsequent article in SR. It's one of the oldest builds I have that are still intact. The white paint hasn't fared too well over the decades. This truck won 'Best Use of Graphics' (splash graphics from the AMT '59 El Camino) at a show in Portland, OR in March of '91 (I remember the date because it was two weeks after my first child was born and my wife was pissed KK and I went to the show, she got over it). The truck also won 'Best Interior' at a Goodguys Show. The truck was later dropped by a club member who insisted on taking it to a show I was unable to attend. It's been put back together, but it's showing it's age. Notice the subwoofer in the bed, made from a small suction cup. The amplifier is from the Matt and Debbie Hay Pro Street T-Bird. -RRR
