Work.... yea common theme, but check this out. I'll admit that I'm a dinosaur, still draw plans with the ancient tools of pencil on velum. I want to phase out and retire, but people keep coming to me. Thanks to CV1984, the building departments established portals, so permit submittal is done electronically. I get my drawings scanned, so far they accept this format (when they demand only AutoCad or whatever files, that will give me the best excuse to retire). This is part of a Site Plan, the bureaucrat literally measured with their computer program, down to 1/4", lines that are representative of what needs to be done. So I need to use "vintage" electric eraser to move that line 6 1/4" to be within the arbitrary line they mandate. Lord forbid the field inspector sees a chunk of rock over that line, and fails the inspection! And they wonder why people try to build something without getting permit. And what the heck is "drainagle"? ? /end rant/

GSL Common Kit: [revision] just another Model A Roadster

Appreciate your comment! Yea, I'm wondering if anyone will ever see the photo-etch nuts I put on the brake fluid reservoir. ? Look forward to seeing old friends and new ones who I've met via the web. Appreciate the input, I wasn't thinking about that. I was thinking more about getting the fumes just a little further back. I'm still working on stripping the paint. ? This fluorescent is a little tougher than other paints. Today I assembled the master brake cylinder, and radiator. Added the nitrous button at the gear shift knob, which is stretched red sprue inside steel tubing, mounted in aluminum plate, wire barely held in place with slivers of aluminum tape. Carved the bottle valve from sheet styrene, small sprue for the twist knob and gauge, used a gauge decal that looks close to what I've seen. -

Took the rest of the day off from this project, went on a hike in the woods on "my" trail. Stream is running like it's Colorado, had to take a picture of Blue Cloud. Tonight I made a MSD ignition box, since I have these nice decals, been wanting an excuse. The NOS decal is on the bottle. Thought I should do the last Hobby Design fire extinguisher. And since I was airbrushing (hate brush panting that much), did the distributor too. -

#*&@%#*@%+=? This Testors fluorescent yellow is a pain to airbrush! It worked fine when I did a model rocket, but this time? ? So into the brake fluid it went. Trying to decide what the main color will be. Last century I painted this Chevy COE with the Pactra (another extinct brand) fluorescent yellow, and it's still good. Found several bottles of various brands that went bad. This scallop design is what I hope to do, but in reverse. I had good luck with the pearl pink nail 'polish' before. Have the Model Master pearl, and some Scale Finishes "Didspade" to try out. The Splash green was custom made for the '69 Chevy pickup, it's a "normal" color to do. I like purple, have a range to choose from. The leather seats will get done with a variety some of this paint. The Pactra yellow is now on the table. The Model Master turquoise is still good, had a similar color from the Testors colors by Boyd (Coddington) time period that was shot, but just because the kit suggests "teal" it's way down the list. Did find out that I'm out of any flat black enamel, just ordered some from eBay (freaking gold plated now); Testors does not have flat black bottles now! ?? -

You are too kind. ? Thank you. ? Used several paints, started with Testors gloss black, on the rear axle and exhaust pipes, then quick running of a little thinner before doing Testors semi-gloss black on the radiator and brake bellows (yea I could have brush painted that tiny part LOL). Model Master metalizer aluminum on the gas tank again, and nitrous bottle mounts, plus differential part. Tamiya titanium gold, but more later... Needed to dump the cleaning thinner and start fresh before squirting the Tamiya primer. Then Testors blue on the nitrous bottle. Finally Alclad stainless steel on the exhaust pipes. Glad I got the chrome part off the differential, and masked for painting the suspension arm brackets. Still not happy with the mismatched color tones on the exhausts, but I need to park my OCD on this one. I forgot about picking up this bottle of Model Master brass non-buffing paint, had never used it. Now that it's an extinct brand, I could probably sell it on eBay for $50. ? No, I'd rather use it, you only live once. This looks so much better. -

To the point of wanting to paint! Have numerous tiny things to fabricate still, such as the nitrous valve, and brake line stuff, but those can be brush painted. I like to lay out all the parts before painting, to show what is stock kit parts, and what is scratch-built. Upper right, some chrome pieces won't be used, obviously the windshield frame isn't. There will become photo-etch goodies used, not shown. Wish I didn't glue the the chrome differential and brake backing plates onto the axle, oh well. Still undecided what color the body and frame will be. -
I never heard of this car, much less the kit brand! Very cool concept car, looks awesome.

Thank you! Glad I have some mojo back. Thought an oil dipstick would be nice. Looked under the hood of my '68 Chevy pickup, at the 307 (I didn't know there was such a size Small Block until I looked up the serial number), to see where it goes. The kit engine has a ledge exactly where it goes. The kit's pedals part is super lame, so I made the gas pedal. Using photo-etch pedals. Will have linkage coming through the firewall, not looking forward to doing the carb linkages. Since I was looking at pictures for the radiator, *had to* make a puke tube. This time it's K&S aluminum rod, a little smaller than the TV rod. Made the mount from aluminum plate, punched a hole first, then shaped the top part. Yes I'm a nut. ? -
what a turnoff. ?

Thank you! ? I am of other guys on this forum, and beyond. Side pipes just look better, in my opinion. Made just one mount for each side, from aluminum plate. As with everything that has pairs, making the first one is easy. Even if I didn't do the side pipes, would have added wires, ensures the manifold won't break off. Drilled the spark plugs holes. Matched the length of pipe for the passenger side. But it looked longer when put in place, and was driving me nuts. Figured out that the valve head on the engine is further back on that side. Thinking I should paint over the chrome with Alclad stainless steel, have to clean up the mold lines, and an ejection pin mark. I like how this side turned out better, looks like the door would miss it. Something the kit is missing, how do you fill the radiator? Sprue from my Subaru project for the neck, turned an aluminum cap, so now I have two billet aluminum parts. ? -

Thank you! Hello down under! ? I'm always amazed how popular American cars are there. The grill is barely glued on, most of the time parts are tacked on because they need to get painted, or test fitting is being done. Thanks for confirming that. Windshield "glass" is in, fit is so snug that it doesn't need to be glued in, which is the ideal situation. Also made the mirror, getting the bracket cut sure was a trick. I hope later pictures will show it better. Started on the exhaust pipes. Using thick wall stainless steel tubing because it doesn't collapse when bending. Drilled a hole in the Corian slab, then bent the tubing enough (I hope). Made a plastic flange to the same shape as the curved tip. I would like to drill for wires into the manifold, to hold into the block. Will also make hangers, think two are needed. -

⬆️ Truth! This Blazer is nice, but not original. (picture stolen from Fakebook) My '68 rust bucket is just fine, I would be scared to drive a trailer queen around the block. I should be scared to drive my pickup into the wilderness, so I should talk. ? -
