  1. Luc, I know you've done similar exercises before. What were the results? The only proposal I've seen (that I remember) is the sample one. Is there a place to see the finished ones complied and were the results presented to the manufacturers? If they were, what were the results, if any? I'm making the assumption that the final goal is to presented information to the manufacturers in an attempt to influence future manufacturing projects.
  2. To help prevent tire to tire contact from getting cars airborne.
  3. Pretty narly looking!! If you're really into logging stuff here's a forum I stumbled across: http://thetimbershop.proboards.com/ It seems like its a big slow now since the founder passed away, but a few people are trying to keep it going.
  4. Was able to make it up to the Powerland Museum in Brooks, Oregon for one of the weekends of the Steam-Up. It was dedicated to steam, but there were tractors, the Northwest Truck Museum, The Caterpillar Museum, military vehicles. 2 days there and still didn't see everything. https://whulsey.smugmug.com/Tractors/2014-08-23-44th-Annual-Great/i-cbGr2f4
  5. Yeah, angry young man turns into grumpy old man. I build models for the research and technical challenges which gives me some personal satisfaction, not sure If I would call it 'fun'. Other then the Mack B which I think has had proposals done on it before, there's nothing I'm really interested in that would be economical viable. As Frank Zappa used to say "No Commercial Potential".
  6. Craig, you have a good point there. But I have to agree with Bill in 'what's in it for' besides an intellectual exercise. And in my advancing age will have to say in a lot of ways I don't care anymore. I've got enough stuff for another lifetime even if I never bought another kit. I about at the point if somebody walked up with money in hand for a reasonable offer for 90% of my stuff, I say back the truck up to the door. Maybe a bit fatalistic and cynical, but that's the way it is.
  7. One of the reasons, I've always lobbied for styrene tires. No problem with dissimilar materials, doesn't need separate molds and equipment, and with modern finishing materials and paints easy to detail.
  8. What a can of worms! First I define a model as a scale replica of a object. Now the object doesn't have to actually exist as in a prototype or interpretation of a drawing or description. So there's the escape clause for you rod and custom builders and even as much as I dislike them, rat rods. It just needs for me and what I like to have as one of my college instructors termed it: internal consistency (another reason I don't like rat rods). It less fancy words, it can vary from a wooden buck or clay styling model up to something like the late Edgar Roy's 1911 Simplex or Louis Chenot's Duesenberg that has a running engine, working transmission, etc. http://www.craftsmanshipmuseum.com/chenot.htm http://forums.aaca.org/topic/161797-1911-simplex-in-miniature/ ; but what's there is right for the representation. Personally I like stock vehicles build to a mid level attention to detail. A lot of them tend to be antique or obscure, so research is a big (and fun) part of the whole project. Would call my self a bit above average except for final paint. Do have a proper place for it and probably because of that don't like it. Got a bunch of 70 to 90 percent done projects because of that. Having a bit of modeler's ADD for the next shiny object (new kit of a favorite subject for example) probably doesn't help either. Still having fun with it, even if it sometimes get a bit crazy like the tracks I'm building for a S-65 crawler that I've been working on for about 16 months. That's the important part: even if I think that new rat rod of yours is an abomination of nature; or you think that I need to see a shrink for that weird cardstock model I'm doing. Remember: HAVE FUN!!!
  9. Yeow! I remember when you could buy a 2 or 3 of the real ones for that and still afford to go out for a good dinner that night.
  10. I already have a 1/25th GAZ-13 Chaika kit. Now I need a 1/25 Mercer Raceabout and a American Underslung to go along with it would be exceptionally nice.
  11. The only thing in the last few days was a freebie download of a card model: The Tokyo Tower with Mothra. Not buying much due to have so many already and getting my real car t-boned a couple of weeks ago--so back to making car payments again.
  12. Thanks, all photos of detail are appreciated. Not sure what you're shooting with, but bigger is nearly always better (especially as the eyes get older).
  13. This was stuck in the Dale Jr thread I guess by accident. Checked it out, looks pretty good. Here's a few antiques, I love brass.
  14. Richard, that's why I usually will go Antique-Classics. On those I go by the old break for Antique being 1948 and prior, since overall that's pretty much the breakpoint were the continued pre-WW2 designs were replaced with new designs.
  15. Went to my 20th, it was actually sort of cool. Made the 30th and not so good. The 50th was last year and blew it off. And for the comments on magazines, will agree about what's on the rack. Still a lot of good mags around but unless you've got access to a real newsstand you have to search them out. Which is why even with cutting back I still have around 15 subscriptions.
  16. Not Richard, but will throw my 2 cents in that I go by what the Classic Car Club of America defines as Classic.
  17. Here's a link to my KF photos for stock: a bunch of J, some Darrin, other KF. https://whulsey.smugmug.com/Cars/Kaiser-Frazer/i-fBWW3Mb
  18. Some cool European tractors I don't get to see. Liked the Opel pickup.
  19. Some really interesting antique bikes both American and European. Some road racing and track bikes. https://whulsey.smugmug.com/Motorcycles/2013-07-14-Vintage-Motorcycle/
  20. More nice motorcycles. Wish I'd knew about this place when I was back for the Pawnee Steam Show since I was staying in Stillwater just a bit north of there. Will need to keep in mind if I make it make it back again.
  21. Haven't been up in that area in many years. Some neat mc's there. Especially like the military Royal Enfield and the green early Harley (guess about 1918 circa).
  22. That's one of the neat things about this event, they're actually driving them and a lot of the cars are up in the 6 figure range.
