  1. Excellent! Now you are going to have me biting my nails, anticipating the "Under Glass" thread... This has kept my attention the whole way and I still can't wait for the final product.
  2. Ummmm, the paper on the windshield says "55 Nomad". I imagine that's right.....
  3. Right-O! The story I read about these talks about Toyota wanting to sell pickups in Europe and surrounding areas. To cut costs of shipping, they made an agreement with VW to have them build pickups in Germany for Toyota. Part of the bargain was VW wanted to sell some as VW's. All the parts are Toyota except for the badges. I can actually look up part numbers for these at work (VW parts dept.), and boy is it weird seeing Toyota part #'s in VW's parts software!
  4. This is not a "Rabboma". There is an official market name for this vehicle and no one has guessed it right yet.
  5. I'm still looking for the name of the pickup......
  6. I'm usually terrible with these things, so I really wanted to beat it. I probably tried it more than 50 times before I finally got it. It can be done like Bob shows above. I think the secret is to not let any ball too far from the jumping action near the end. Good luck!
  7. OK, here's an easy one..... Or is it?
  8. DeTomaso Mangusta
  9. Can an east coaster make a request? Since there's a high concentration of us out here on the other coast who won't be able to make it, could someone be a photographer? This way, we can share in Milt's NNL too. I've been following the buildup and would love to see the turnout, big or small. Thanks in advance!
  10. Looking really tight, Gil! You are gonna make me go back and do the molding on mine. (I built it so I could take it apart and "service" things.) This build just makes me think what the owner of my build if it were 1:1, were to keep it for many years, upgrading things along the way that he might arrive at something that looks like your build. Still a driver and not a trailer queen!
  11. That last one you posted should be renamed: "101 ways to wreck a Renault"

    09 Camaro

I don't have to be happy, it's your model, not mine..... Did you glue the wheels back on yet or are they still propped on? Seriously, It looks great. Cruz better look out with your polishing skills!

    09 Camaro

Wow! That looks great!! Its your best build yet!!! Great polishing wor........ oh wait...... YOU MOVED THE PICS! Doh!!!! Now I seem to remember someone calling someone else a monkey.......
  14. THAT is what our hobby is about to me as well. Sharing techniques with fellow builders. That, and swapping parts between us to create that one that's stuck in your head that just won't go anywhere until it's in front of you on the shelf. Two more of my copper Lincolns, non-refundable.
  15. Oooo! Who makes that? I already have an idea! Mine would be a dumped Yukon 2dr. I've always wanted to see one of those on the ground. Man you got me ready to spend more on resin after I just spent some coin at NNL. The more I look at it, I think I could bash up a body of my own with a Tahoe 4dr kit and another shortbed. Hmmmmmmmm....... Maybe I will buy the next 454SS kit I find.
  16. Yeah, I do like these generation Silverados a lot! I have a few I'm kicking around. I found an original release in mint condition in a tiny LHS and I'm building it as a stocker. I also have a stepside and a phantom dually kit as well as a few promos to tinker with when I need a break from building all these hot rods I've been enjoying so much. I am loving the top color you picked for yours too.... what's that they say about great minds... That mockup is Killer too!!!
  17. It's easier to just show a pic than to try to explain.... Geez.... you can see how I lazed out on doing the exhaust and rear shocks. Doh! The rest of the work I did was to the inside of the body to get it to sit on the frame right. I also had to butcher the interior for fit. Those seats I used are the low back ones from a long bed promo. The only thing I wish I would have done is add some material to keep the wheelbase intact. Here's a front shot to show off the stance better. I agree with Kenny about the engine being too small. That's why I used the big block out of the 66 Nova kit. The fact it has a manual on it already was a bonus. What are you doing in the engine department?
  18. Looking good Gil! You hit a button in me with this build..... I did this one a year ago when I decided to take up this hobby to help me quit smoking. It is my first completed build and paint job ever. I wish I could have found a build like yours when I was building mine. I didn't know about layitlow.com or that probably wouldn't have been a problem. I love what you are doing with yours. The interior never occurred to me to bash a Tahoe snapper... I still have much to learn. I'm surprised how close our removal of body material to do the drop is. I actually took the step out of the frame to keep it as low as I could. Man, I love it! I will definitely be watching this build!
  19. I have to admit, I didn't notice... I'm guilty. Actually, I haven't been spending as much time here lately, either. Another reason I didn't notice is because the one thread I did start, you commented on. I have to agree, it's hard to spend any time here when the board doesn't respond to clicks about 40-60% of the time. *SIGH*
  20. Here's my $.02 FWIW... I went to the show (I chose that word intentionally) with the mindset that I wasn't bringing home any awards. I knew going in the door that there would only be a couple of trophys to divide among 1000+ models. If one goes into a "contest" with that few awards to go around thinking they are going to clean up, they should probably go to a contest with real judges. IPMS does "real judging" as does the daddy of them all, GSL, they seem more appropriate for those looking to win something. I will say that a magazine wanting to take a picture of your work is another bonus to the whole show. I don't consider that a "trophy", but it is still an honor. Keep in mind, just because the mag took a couple pics of your model, they may not run any of them at all. (they probably will, but they aren't bound to you by contract to print a pic.) NNL shows are about meeting people and seeing their work "in the plastic". That's the attitude I gathered as well while in attendance. It comes down to the individual. What you get out of it is most important. If you are looking for a trophy, this isn't the show for you. (note: boldfaced "you" is not directed at any individual)
  21. Hmmmmmmmmmmm, how about a '79 Toyota Hilux?
  22. After seeing this on Saturday I like it even more. I thought I commented on this one but I haven't yet..... what's wrong with me??? That interior work is smokin'! I still struggle the most with interior detail. ( I really like the work you put into the 69 Roadrunner too. I saw it at the Nov. meeting and got a couple pics of it. ) Hope to see you in May.
  23. Gotta agree with Bernard. I watched it the whole way too and enjoyed every twist and turn. Turned out even better than I thought it would. I certainly wouldn't mind seeing you build more hot rods; you do them so well. Thanks for sharing.
  24. I started this one when it came out and screwed up the paint almost right away. I still built the chassis and motor but managed to put it away after that. When I was sure I was going to the NNL, I wanted to finish it for the class there. Back out it came and the second attempt on the paint was much more acceptable. I decided to save the Caddy mill for use in a hot rod though, and built up a small block Ford motor from one of the Revell 32 kits. Only other parts added were the single bar flipper caps from the Revell 50 Ford p/u. Paint is Tamiya TS-57 Blue Violet with more of that VW lacquer clear over top. Thanks for looking!
