    Dub's Little Deuce

    Here's the build thread: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=10787
  2. Here she is in the sunlight! Man, this color really doesn't want to come out and play. This is as blue as I can get it without a white-balance card for my camera. I can see the pigment, but I'm special... Anyway, I'll stop now... here's the pics: Thanks for looking!
  3. I have to agree with Nick. wow....
  4. Which brings me back to my question: WHY???
  5. As always, great work Ted! This is really sweet! As a VW guy, I have to say I don't really care for the New Beetles, but you buried enough of the original car that I don't care anymore! Is that a Mustang (Mach III with windshield?) interior I spy? It fits well. Again, terrific job and thanks to Dave for sharing the pics with us.
  6. This is one really funny list of rules! Even for those of us without military experience. I read the whole list and when I got to #'s 145 and 146, I started to laugh hysterically for nearly a minute! If my better half would have been awake, she would have questioned me for sure! I also thought 148 and 152 were really freakin' funny too. Classic stuff! Thanks Nick. I'm surprised you read all of them with your attention span.....
  7. It's about time!
  8. OK, just about finished with this one. I finished wiring and plumbing the motor and also buttoned up the rest of the interior: I also managed to get the lights hung too: Next pics will be Under Glass! Thanks to all for following along!
  9. For polishing, I use Detail Master polishing cloths. They come in a set and go from 3200 to 12000 grits with about 5 intervals in between. They are what levels out the orange peel. Once you do the polishing, use a polshing compound and just manual buffing. Electric buffers like a dremel tool are usually too much. Very likely to burn through the paint. After the compound step, just pick your favorite wax and apply. I learned a trick from Cruz at the Feb. MAMA meeting, who got it from the man himself, Bill Geary. Go get a high quality auto drying chamois. Make sure you spend a bit on it, it has to be really soft. Cheap ones need not apply. When you wax, apply with your bare finger. Apply like usual, in swirling motion, doing only a section at a time. Then when dry, buff with the chamois, rotating as you go. The rotating is the important part. You don't want to spend too much time using the same spot of the chamois. I have used this trick twice now and it just plain works. Check out my deuce in progress for an example.
  10. I'm still working on the WHY?
  11. Very very very very very very very very Kool Kemp! ;)
  12. Thanks Bill! I can't wait to see what you do with a hot rod of any flavor! ;) I'm sure you'll teach us rod builders all something new. I managed to get more done since last time. I got the dash done and installed: I also finished the grille: edit: I almost forgot the front tire upgrade.... These are from the yellow car. Much better than the new ones. Can't forget the fuel lines! You can actually see the holes drilled for the wires. I get to wrestle them next. Thanks again, everybody for following along.
  13. OK, got some more done..... Carpet's done: Engine's blackwashed: And paint is polished: I gotta paint the firewall next and finish the dashboard next.
  14. Simply beautiful! I have to say, I don't know if I would try the carb linkages now either. I'm sure it can be done right, but it could look too busy if not. You have a good package here. I'd call it done if it were on my bench!
  15. It looks like what's left of a convertible Celica to me. One of the late ones, but before they got all wedgy looking.
  16. I'm goin' with Dale's answer..... BUT, I do see the likeness to a Mopar so I am still a bit unsure.
  17. Yeah I know, Dan. Nick is a "special" case, requiring special treatment! Anywho.... I scraped together a pic of the starting "pile": And I did the first round of embossing powder next: (still needs another layer...) Here's another mockup with more suspension installed: It's going to get the frame painted next and the body polished as well. Thanks again everybody for looking and commenting!
  18. Hmmmmmmm..... I believe it looks like an old Toyota Land Cruiser....
  19. I'll see what I can do when I get home. I'm using as many new parts as possible, with the old engine, firewall, hood, and who knows what else yet. Thanks for the interest! Raul, I used the back of a #11 X-acto blade for the cutting.... Maybe I need to use a newer blade???? I noticed this black styrene doesn't act the same as white does. Maybe that's why..... As for tools, I've probably spent the most of my investment in the hobby so far on them! I can't seem to get anything done unless I have a good tool for it!
  20. Next up, the interior needs to be sectioned for the channel job I'm doing on this one. First I cut the floor out: Then, take out the section: Back together again: ..... and the mockup: I'm using the firewall from the 73 issue too. The pleats go with the mid-sixties theme I'm doing on this one.
  21. Too funny!!! I was going to type Bombardier but didn't know how to spell it! At least I was really close with a cross btw. a BMW bike and a Ski-Doo!!!
  22. Yeah, I know. I'm just bustin' your chops! I can't seem to get the pigment to show itself in the pics well. I'll have to get some outdoor shots in...
  23. ....and I'm the colorblind one.
