  1. Yeah, definitely lower it. If the wheels didn't lift the car you'd be fine. But, unfortunately, my nose is telling me that it's itching to bleed! I do have to say that those wheels are the right choice, though. I don't think you have to go smaller up front; that car is big enough to pull off the matched set. You should drop it the same amount all the way around to keep the rake, but you already knew that. There's my two copper Lincolns for ya!
  2. Ditto on the Dremel, Bill. I just got mine and I can't imagine building without it anymore. My file set is an old jeweler's set, not Flexfile. They both do the same thing though; my set just isn't as versatile. What I use them for is panel line and feature cleanup during bodywork. There are some really fine ones that are great for cleaning dried glue out of corners and tight areas of the body before primer. They are good for knocking down big mold separation lines, and flash too. There is no way I could do bodywork without them. I also use the sanding sticks for most of my block sanding and the four separate grits are perfect, as well as the single tri-grit version. They work even better when you cut them down into sharp angles with a razor saw.
  3. Looking good, man! It's coming along nicely. I really like the alternator adjuster bracket. That looks freakin' sweet! The pulleys look great too. You got the stance 100% as well. Keep plugging away, and keep us posted. I can't wait to see the next update!
  4. If you can find an A.C. Moore craft store, they carry various sizes. Unless that sale I picked one up with was a clearance sale..... They aren't as nice as the AMT ones but they do get the job done.
  5. If you can find any, the AMT 62 Catalina pre-painted kits have a nice set with chrome steelies. The bonus is the really nice 421 engine that comes in the kit; great hot rod motor!
  6. I'm with all of you guys. That Dremel Stylus is absolutely a great addition to any toolbox. I got one for christmas and don't know what I was doing without it! I actually have two favorite files. One is for big work and the other one is for fine work. Purple Power is good stuff; way better than brake fluid. I also have about 50 of those alligator clips that I can add different lengths of stock for ease of handling. (I got a bag at the craft store for $3 IIRC.) That silver Sharpie is a great tool for chrome part repair, too. The only thing I have to add, is that I also love my razor saw too. It makes getting frame cuts perfect nice and easy.
  7. Jon, he's talking about this one: I believe you meant single car display cases. In that case(snicker) I like the IMEX brand one I found in a mom-n-pop LHS last year. I'll repost with a pic of the box if you want. I have also seen ads for the AMT ones and they look really cool too. I don't believe they're in production anymore, but I'm guessing. HTH! edit: the IMEX one is actually in the above pic on the middle shelf. Duh!
  8. Yup, ya can't beat $60 for that! Only thing is I know I'll need two of them and I only have room for one.
  9. OK, here it is, as clean as it gets. I don't have a paint booth yet, so my solution is a bit on the questionable side. I found that my window at the top of my stairs has an out-draft (when open) 90% of the time. The window is about 3 paces from my "bench" so convenience is not an issue. When I do get a booth, it'll be that window that has the removable vent. I don't fail to see the irony of that same window used to be where I went to smoke when it was too cold outside, before I quit. (building model cars helped me quit) I also have recently replaced the mat with a larger one.
  10. Isn't that job similar to a javelin catcher?
  11. Is that an old four-channel reciever I spy? Looks like it's cherry too! Those tall square glass cabinets are about $60 at IKEA without the light. IIRC it was only another $5. (too bad the bulbs are $6! @ the hardware store! ) The ONLY thing I don't like about it is how heavy it is. 76lbs!!!
  12. I see I'm not the only one with one of these. Hey, why not? They're cheap and they look great.
  13. Gil, this Impala is absolutely beautiful! I love the contrast between the red and the gold. A very tasteful combination indeed. Also a flawless execution that really does the lowrider look proud.
  14. Sorry, I meant to say: man, that is one cherry kemp!
  15. Uber-cool! Geez Lyle, I had two ideas for the new Tudor and you put both on this one.... I love it!
  16. Nice job! I love the whole package. I see you channelled it; did you do any Z work? It sits perfect!
  17. I usually can't stand pink, but this shade really does it for me! It looks even better in the sunlight! Nice work!
  18. ...and I didn't think the comment was "racial" at all. It was just something to ruffle feathers and I see it worked.
  19. Nice job, Cruz! That looks like another winner. Can't wait to see it.
  20. You know, the one of the cool things that really makes this site different is the way everything was lumped together. Everybody's builds next to each other. It's half of the reason I stayed here instead of elsewhere. Even now, I spend a lot of time on a different forum, I still check in here multiple times a day. If we segregate all the builds into sub-classes, we'll be just like everybody else. I don't want this place to be that way. I like it the way it is. Besides, who's going to move every one of the posts into the sub-classes? You think Gregg has time to do that in the wake of a hard drive crash cleanup with TWO issues behind schedule????
  21. Man, Cruz. This thing is a detail monster! I know why you're doing this much to this one. You're trying to get Bill to get crackin' on his! It'll be cool to see one of these with the doors opening. Of course, that's if he doesn't make it stock!!!! I wonder what this thing will bring when you donate it for auction in November!
  22. Thanks again, guys. I guess it's apparent I tinkered around with these pastels in school in art classes. I did more work with charcoal and acrylics but this isn't much different. Gray, that is too funny! I tell you what, when my display case starts to overflow I'll think about it..... Just kidding! This one is a little special to me. You could build yourself a clone..... Seriously, thanks again for all the kind words along the way. Awww, come on! That is a bit too much! .....as for the tech session, I'll help with it as long as Dube is there!
  23. That is funny! It looks like Harry has brought out one of the big guns. This one is really tough! I don't know if I wanna play or not......
  24. You're well on your way! That thread was a lot of inspiration for the last build I did. It got the ball rolling for me and now all I want to build are rods! Watch out, they're addictive! I can't wait to see the welds. That is something I have to try sometime soon. Keep us posted.
