My ONLY gripe is the flathead is hooked up to a modern auto. It isn't much of a complaint, so it probably doesn't matter to about 85% of the buyers of the kit. It would have been nice to have a vintage manual on the casting but that would have required a bit more tooling just to do the driveshaft. The chassis on this one is already modernized so I am asking for too much there. It's just one of the sacrifices they made that we have to deal with.

Yeah Raul, that hit the spot! It ties in with the mirrors really well and pulls the whole package together. Good show!

I noticed it right away. Sketch pad is the first thing I look at usually. Harry had it last month, and I did enjoy it. P-chopping is really cool and lots of possibilities are there. Not to take any thing away from Harry, I really enjoy Jairus' artwork. He is a true master of automotive art. His stuff really pops and jumps off the medium and seems almost alive in a cartoony kind of way. (that's a good thing) If he is leaving the mag, even for a while, he will be missed. I'd still like to see where his truckster build is going, though!

2000 total registered users. I noticed it too. Nobody hired the band or had a party when we passed 50,000 posts, so it's probably why. Doesn't bother me.... I notice numbers too, probably because of seeing car part numbers all day. Force of habit, I guess.

This is what I was wondering too...... It would seem to me, the worse the taste, the more they want to show it off.

I only have one (for now). Lindberg 1:32 scale.

If that's what you have to do, then so be it. It looks like you and I are alike in this way at least. I have a few unfinished models in the case that I don't have plans on a deadline due to many factors. My problem is that yours looks so good I probably would finish a little bit more of the outside and not get back to it for years. One thing's for sure, if you show us here when you do get back to it, we'll be happy campers!

Lookin' good, Cruz! That title should read: "just in time for the club tuner contest!!!!!!" I don't know if I should even bother bringing my stuff... You should do pretty good!

Priming And Painting. Help Please!!!
dub replied to Count Dragula's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Primer is always a good idea. The Krylon Fusion paints need a primer under them. I bought a can of it and did the sprue test before spraying the body and sure enough, it crazed the plastic. I use Plastikote and Tamiya primers exclusively and haven't had any problems yet. Some paints need a sealer primer or Future floor wax laid down first as a barrier because they are that hot they will craze through the primer too. One of the sealer primers is Shellac BIN. I haven't used it or the Future. Others on here have and I'll leave that to them. Hope this is a good start! -
Looking good, Bobby! I haven't bought any of the Tamiya Focus kits yet, but seeing yours I'll have to pick one or two of them up. Is the exhaust the kit's or did you scratchbuild that sewer-pipe sized setup? I know it's accurate, but did they kit it right?

What'd You Get For Christmas????
dub replied to Mike's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thanks Dad! The Makita piece isn't for model building but I will have no problem finding uses for it! -
What Would You Like For Christmas?
dub replied to Gregg's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'll throw in a vote for the Scirocco and Rabbit to get re-popped. I also would love to see the 88-95 C1500 Chevy P/U series done again too. (454SS and Boyd Hauler included) -
What, no one likes Vespas or helicopters? Seriously, I loved the 996 the most, but the Vette was a very close second. Besides, I didn't want to pick the one almost everybody else did.

Excellent work! I have a place near my heart for this truck. I have a custom one built already and a box stock one on the bench. Neither one is even close to this detailed though. The interior detail is superb. I love how accurate the steering column and dashboard are.
-
Quite an undertaking! I am going to watch this build's progress for sure. Do you have a reference? Did Stuttgart build one for display? I've seen plenty of cutaway engines.... A whole car is way too cool!
-
Really!??!!? I blew that up on my Mac at home and it looks like the background was blacked out with a magic marker.

Can you show us the un-altered photo? This thing must be 1/8 scale.....

I like it. Its a good idea for sure. Why not? Its not like you gotta worry about messing the finished car up doing the construction of the upgrade. If you want to mess up the car you can always try doing the fog lights! Either that or you could make sure your sweat glands are healthy and actually DRILL that smooth front pan.... Seriously, if you want to try it my thoughts would be to place them halfway between the center-line and the outside edge. If you line them up with the headlights and indicators it would be too much and would exaggerate the height even more. Just a couple more of my pennies for ya!

I found some thin black foam that is perfect at a craft store. I cannot for the life of me remember the name of the product. (probably because it was about 10 years ago.) If you click my avatar to see my profile you can see it in my most recent topic. It came in a four pack so I only have a couple. I never seem to remember to look for more when I'm lurking around in the craft store. I didn't have any problem understanding the request.... we must be on the same wavelength.

Can You Identify This Car?
dub replied to 7000in5th's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Vettes have always been hit or miss with me. Most of the time miss.... But the ones I like, the ones that really strike me, really do it for me. This is one of those..... The original ZR-1 was another. The twin cam engine in that one sounded so sweet when being wrung out on a twisty autocross course. This one should have some pleasant noise too. Definitely different though, no doubt! If Revell does kit this one I will buy a couple. I'll even build one of them. -
It turned out great! The wheels look better from the rear 3/4 view. Much meatier! Now its easy to see the size difference. Man that lump is squeezed in there. Does look at home though... I can feel the two tone thoughts too. If you would have used silver it would have been Rolls Royce classy. That's OK, its meaner this way!
-
Very cool, Irv! I was beginning to wonder if you built anything that doesn't have a slot chassis under it. I love the patina. I am going to try this on a couple of builds in the future. Oh yeah, can't forget; you got the "Arter Rake" perfect on it too!
-
Nice build! I do like E36 3er's, they are my favorite 3's. I love the underside weathering and the interior detailing too. Good work!
-
I assume it would be called that for "Y" bother! (yeah, its corny, but I think it's worth a chuckle at least!)
-
Great job! I like the hot rod theme on this one better than the usual dirty rat theme. It just works better clean! Now, who's going to tackle the '53 Ford? I just missed (I think) one of the pre-painted flip-nose kits at a local discount chain. It would be perfect because the front is already cut off!
