  1. BTW, if you add just a drop of dish soap to the Acrylic wash, it really helps it to flow on enamel or laquer paints. The dropof dish soap breaks the surface tension and allows it to settle in really nice. If it needs a little shine, add a few drops of Future. Future also adds a bit of durability. I prefer the Acrylic wash over the Tamiya wash as it will not damage anything you put it on. However, I still use Tamiya on kit chrome, it works really well.
  2. Here is another Paperclip mirror truck. This one is much more complex, but as you can see, you can make them as simpleor complex as you want. I feel the paperclip wire size just works great for truck mirrors. I don't like to use kit mrrors anymore.
  3. This truck has another version of a simple paperclip mirror bracket. This one is a very simple U shape with the kit mirror glued on. Same holes rilled to locate it in the doors. Once the basic frame is made, if you want more outriggers they are easy to add.
  4. Many of the mirrors in the AMT kits are clumsy and don't look in scale when done. I have on several trucks used paper clips. I bend them to shape and drill holes in the cab. The holes in the cab help to keep them in place as the glue drys. I make 2 A shaped frames, one for the top, one for the bottom. I then drill holes in the cab for them to insert into. I glue the bottom one in first, wait for it to dry, then I insert the top one with the kit mirror inbetween. The small diameter of the paper clip wire looks great in scale and they are always chrome anyway. Paperclips are easy to bend, cheap as can be and very handy for other projects too. No hobby desk should be without them.
  5. You could get a Valiant with a 273 Comando, heavier torsion bars, and all the other stuff that a 1965 Cuda would have. I’m sure they sold a few to those that didn’t like the big back glass.
  6. I know where there are a few around me in Eastern Washington. I just don’t have the money to offer for them. I can see one from my property
  7. So where did you get the soft top? I’m also working on a few of these. I would love to put a soft top on one of them. I love what you are doing. I have been looking for the Italeri kit, I had not thought about how the hood effects the engine.
  8. Yep, got to have one or 3 of those. Just please tell them, Don’t chrome the wheels!!!!!
  9. As of right now, I plan to build it with one panel open and fill it with the coke bottles I have from other kits, and the rest will be closed so you can see the large logo on the sides.
  10. I think I have decided that I will build one of my Ford LN trucks as a Coca-Cola delivery truck. The kind with a box with roll up doors on the side. For local deliveries. Something like the picture.
  11. Looks Great, I love the sleeper look and the color is wonderful. Can't beat the steelies with poverty caps. I wish I had a 1:1 like this.
  12. My daughter, 29 loves El Camino's, Ranchero's and the Subaru Brat. I picked this kit up at HL and decided to build it for her. This is not a bad kit. It does have some minor issues, but it is an AMT kit from 1978. The decals are a huge improvement over the originals, way too go R2. I wired the engine, but it is hard to tell. I think the tail lights are the worst part of the kit, they just don't fit well and there is not a lot to attach them too. I have about 3 days into this kit, started Monday night and finished Wednesday. I built this OOB, Duplicolor paint, nothing special. It is a fun kit that builds into a really cute little Brat.
  13. I love the C cab trucks, and this is just wondrful. I will be getting at least 2-3 of these. I already have a LNT ready for one of the trash units.
  14. As you can see my handle is Oldmopars. Many years back I was a huge fan of A-Body Mopars. My wife had a 64 4 door, I had a 63 Signet 2 door, my in-laws had several, I think I had around 6 or so of these cool old cars. I even had a 64 Valiant wagon with a 64 Dart GT nose and 265 Commando engine. I love these old cars. However, the only scale version was an annual I think many years ago and is long gone. It was a promo and now commands big money on the auction site. I did manage to find a resin copy though. My original plan was to use the 71 Duster as a donor, however the fit was just not that good. But, in my collection I had the MPC 1969 Baracuda. This kit is so bad I stripped out a bunch of the parts and sent them to someone on this forum. I pulled the kit out and found that the base plate for the 'Cuda is almost perfect for the Valiant. With a bit of trimming the interior tub is also a good fit. While I know that it is not perfect, I am building a curbside and so the chassis details are not that important to me. The original Valiant was also curbside and its chassis is far worse than the Cuda donor. So, after a bit of trimming and sanding I have the interior tub fit, the chassis fit and it is on some donor wheels/tires. These will not be the final wheels used, but a good start to to some mock ups. My next issue is to get the dash to fit. This should not be too bad, just need to sand the sides down so I can move it to the correct possition. I would give the resin body a 7.5 out of 10, good but not perfect. It will work to allow me to put a Valiant on the shelf and not spend $250 doing it. Anyway, here is the current state:
  15. Mmmm. Could be a future project, That is a cool truck.
  16. Oldmopars

    MGB GT V8

Very cool, great job. I love the look and the paint is wonderful. I have always loved MG's and the GT V8 has been a favorite for many years. Just excellent.
  17. I have built several of the Italeri trucks, all with the multi-part cabs. I have found that with a little creativity you can build the cab complete, paint it and then install the interior after. This allows you to build the cab with solvent glue so it is strong, then paint. If you paint all the parts first then assemble it around the interior, you have to be very careful and use a CA glue. This makes it hard to get everything lined up and glued together as the parts have paint on them and they now don't want to line up or stay together. My BRBO truck this year was the FLC and I did it as I decsribed with no issues. Build the cab, then paint, then install the interior. You can see my build of this truck here:
  18. This is the AMT kit with the optional roof. I wanted to make a wagon, but the roof on this kit is not great. It has no opening for the rear window, just one big roof panel that extends down to the back. I cut the glass apart and glued in the roof panel, it got painted. I then made a new back window, this I left open so I could add a surf board. I added a frame around the rear window so it looks correct. This also meant I had to add a drip rail all the way around the roof. I did not like the C pillars, too curved for this style of car. I cut them out and rebuilt them into a straight angled pillar. I felt this looks more like the correct lines for the era of the car. The kit engine was the MEL, I wanted a little more GO, but to retain the factory look. I pulled the Boss 429 out of the 1970 Galaxie and put it in here with the stock Lincoln aircleaner. Now the wagon has some power to get it down the road. Paint is Duplicolor for the body, Rustoleum and craft paints for the rest. Surf Boards were donated from the 1965 Chevy Chevelle wagon kit. Roof rack is from the 1977 Ford Van I built this car how I wanted it, as if they had actually made it this way from the factory. If they had, I would own one. A big, powerful, suiside doored hard top wagon. My favorite color with lots of chorme and big wood grain panels. My dream car. Hope you like it.
  19. Well, I am calling this one done. Please see all the pictures in the Under Glass section
  20. My wallet is really going to suffer in 2022. So many great kits on the way.
  21. This is either agreat time to build models, or a really bad time. So many great kits back out or new kits coming. I am thrilled, my wallet is not. Another kit I must have. Can't wait.
  22. I can see possibilities for a lot of things based on this. I could build a wreaker, camper, dump truck, stake bed, etc. So much potential, I love it.
  23. I just placed my order for the 20ft shipping container that will make the "Camper" on the rear. Will not arrive till after Christmas, but its on the way. I am thinking about converting this to a 6x6. Any suggestions where to get a driven front axle and transfer case? Maybe some bigger front and rear wheels/tires?
  24. Man, this looks great. I love these kit bash/custom work trucks. These fire me up way more than any 70's muscle car or 30's hot rod. Keep up the great work.
  25. Very cool. I really want a lathe, but room and budget are holding me back. Right now I am working towards converting my WW2 era Delta drill press into a lathe/mill. It will have the most basic of functions, but should allow me to do simple stuff to add depth to my buids. Most milling will be done in Renshape type foam, most lathe operations will be plastic or aluminum/brass. Also collecting parts to build a CNC router.
