Thank you both for your insight. This is why I used cardboard first. I am also “sitting” on it with it on the shelf. This way I can keep looking at it and make corrections before I cut the real thing. I will do as you said, because you are both right, too tall. I could not get my CAD drawings to print, so I tried to transfer the info and I clearly got something wrong. -
International cement truck

Very nice. Excellent weathering, and those rear fenders are 10 times better than what the kit includes. The kit fenders just look goofy and too long, yours look correct for the truck. Very well one. -

Great job on this very challenging kit. Mine went back in the box a few times. I love the weathering and that you leveled it up. Great job- 17 replies

Payhauler 350 Build.

Well, I guess I was wrong. ADD must have gotten the better of me. I will try to get better pictures and post them up. Thanks for noticing. -

Yes, I did. I’m sure I put it under glass, I will see if I can find it. -

Progress has been a bit slow, but I had a bit of time to do some CAD work. Very rough cardboard shell is made. I am using some hot glue to hold it all together. At least this gives me a place to start. I do see the wheel Wells need to come down a bit. It is at least getting close. -

Thank you, this is very helpful. -

I like it. You may want to swap the drive wheel with the forward idler wheel, the drive wheel would never be that close to the ground, always up high to avoid getting rocks and garbage caught in it. I love the creativity and the direction this is going, keep up the good work. -
Ford pick up 1950 Revell

I like it, well done. -
Looks great. The reason you saw a lot of black Model T's, is that Ford only sold them in black. He said "you can have them in Black, Black, or Black" He was selling them at a "budget" price compared to other cars at the time, so "options" were not available. I do think yours looks great in the yellow color and you did a great job.

Yep, build that as a wreaked twisted heap. Would look great behind a tow truck or on a flatbed. Junkyard dio?

AMT Peterbuilt Wrecker
Oldmopars replied to OldTrucker's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
This is really looking great. I love the colors. I would have never thought to use the lightgreen, but it looks great. This is really coming together. -
We make big plans, have good intentions and then stuff happens. I painted and decaled both the truck and the trailer. I then sprayed lacquer on the cab and it looked perfect. I then used the same thing on the trailer and the decals shriveled and shrunk destroying them. I took the trailer apart so I could save the paint on the base and top and the 2 side are now in the purple pond. I now need to hunt down another set of decals or just buy the other issue of the kit with the right decals in it. I guess if there was no challenge, there would be no fun.

That is looking great.

When I saw the Christmas decals for the AMT Fruehauf trailer, I knew I had to build a truck and trailer for Christmas. While I prefer builds that are a little weathered and not chromed or flashy, I decided to build this one as a "Show" type truck. A truck that Coke would bring someplace and put on display. With that in mind, I am leaving almost all the chrome, except on the engine. So far all the paint is Rustoleum 2X Apple Red. Itis a very bright and true red, perfect for this build. The cab has been painted, decaled and cleared with Rustoleum Acylic Lacquer. I think I will leave the frame as is, it is shiny enough for a truck frame. The engine is just sitting on the frame, it is not in the right position. I painted the bed in the sleeper, but didn't waste much time on it as it cn't be seen once the cab is put together. I am aware of the flaws with this kit, I fixed the front axle, took out 1/4in. I however chose not to spend the time to lower the headlights, I did it on a previous one, and it was a lot of work. For the small gain, it just was not woth it too me. It also means you lose rivet detail and have to add it back somehow, I didn't want to deal wth it. I will be visiting Hobby Lobby to find a small wreath for the front, it will distract from the "high water headlights" I have the trailer built, and some ofthe decals, but there are more to come on the trailer. Once finished it will get cleared the same as the cab. The trailer interior is Aluminum and I did the wood grain on the floor. It turned out really nice, but with the darkness inside, it will be hard to see. A dark base and some dry brushing brought out the molded in wood grain. Because I am building this pretty much out of the box, I did not feel it was worth a full build thread.

Mack Truck question
Oldmopars replied to Oldmopars's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Well I have a DM-800 on the way now. I will either get an Autocar for the dump bed, or modify 2 from the LNT800 snowplow kit to make a larger box. We shall see. -
Hey, you did a great job on this, I love it. Great color. You did a great job on a total garbage kit. I have one on the bench and there are very few good points to this it. Old tool, bad fit, no chassis details, under hood completely wrong and the list goes on. You turned this sows ear into a silk purse, way too go.

I like it, stickers will look fine under the clear. Are you going to add fake door opening lines? Make it look like a 4 door, even if there are no doors?

Mack Truck question
Oldmopars replied to Oldmopars's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
OK, so here are some pictures of I think where I want to go with this. Shortened DM-800 Hood, DM-800 chassis, R685ST cab, Autocar dump box. Possible larger heavy resin wheel/tire combo. Pictures are mostly more my inspiration. -
Mack Truck question
Oldmopars replied to Oldmopars's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
The DM-800 kit hood seems really long. It seems to have a strange axle possition also. I may have to get a DM-800 kit and see if I can shorten the frenders. Making a new hood to fit would be easy as it is just flat. Could be bent out of some brass or aluminum. Wile I want to support our aftermrket venders, I think this route would be cheaper and allow me to avoid using resin and have a lot of leftover parts. The more I think about this, the more I want to do it. -
Very nice, I love the color. White is also a bold and uncommon color for an engine.
