  1. Looks good, I have this one on the bench right now, the issues with this kit are many. You did a great job.
  2. And don’t forget the VW Bus T2 continued until 2013 in Brazil. 68-2013. The T1 from 50 something to 67. with the right engine swap, a VW bus could make a great CB racer.
  3. Well, anyone born 1959-2000 could build a classic Mini Cooper. Maybe not the best race car, but really cool project.
  4. Woo Hoo 1970’s club! Best year to be born, product’s of the 80’s.
  5. That is my exact plan. The 1970 Galaxie 4 door, either the cop or taxi version. I may even make it look like an ex-government or taxi car and make it a complete hoopty. Rust, dents, cracked window, and a few other things. But, those kits have the Boss 429 under the hood and I will do the interior with stuff needed for the race, extra fuel tanks, etc. So, my build plan was just fine for about 4 of the suggested themes. This will be fun.
  6. Ok, I’m in again. 1970 for me too, hope I can find something to build?. I was very excited about the song theme, I liked Adam Sandler “Ode to my car” I may be able to combine the Birth year theme, song theme, and 4 door theme all in one build. I would post the words to the song, but it would end up Blah, blah , blah. I talks about how big of a pile of dung his car is. A pile of dung car would fly under the radar.
  7. This years entry is a 1960 Chevy Impala with a NASCAR chassis. Modifications include: 1/2 T-Bird 1/2 Pontiac NASCAR chassis Resin Chevy LS engine Increased fuel tank size Full interior except the back seat 4 wheel disk brakes Pegusus wheels with knock offs Lowered ride height. I am sure there are a lot of other mods, but I finished it 9 months ago and my memory is only 10 minutes. If I get back from my trip in time, I will add better pictures.
  8. Stunning work. It’s always enjoyable to watch a master at work.
  9. I’m going in a different direction, so the brown works good for me.
  10. I had the same issue with mine, currently on the bench. All the interiors are one color. I decided to use a few shades of brown to give it some interest. BTW, I have also been building one of these for a couple of months now. I have made some of the same mods to my version as well.
  11. I have worked a bit more on the R800. More hood fitting, made a hole for the air cleaner. Redid the exhaust so it fits. added dechromed tanks from the DM800. I had to shorten the fron axle as the tires stuck out 1/4in on each side. I ireworked all the steering linkage and cut down the steering shaft and made a hole in the fender for it. I had to cut down the R685ST air cleaner to fit over the fender. Made new fuel tank brackets. When I first had this idea, I thought I could just swap the DM cab wih the R cab. No, way more work than that. In some ways I think I would have been better off puting the steel hood on the R685ST So, if the cab is an R, and the engine is a 865, would this be a R865?
  12. This is the inspiration for this build. I would have used a military truck, but I have not found one in 1/24-1/25 scale. https://www.motor1.com/news/396473/military-vehicle-tiny-home-conversion/
  13. I am not an expert on Mack trucks, I do know that the R cab could be had with a steel hood, but not sure if it would look exactly like this. I am taking a DM800 by MPC and putting a cab from an AMT R685ST on it and reworking the nose to fit. I never liked the offset DM cab. I hated how long the metal hood looked on the DM800, the fenders seemed to stick out way too far and give it a strange look. I have removed 3/4in or 18 3/4 scale inches out of the front. I moved the radiator back, and shortened the frame. I also had to move the engine back a bit and relocate the front mounts and make new rear mounts. I have a plan for this, I will be adding a 20ft shippin container to the back and making it into a "camper". The wjole thing will have a post-apocalyptic feel. After a major SHTF event this truck was cobbled together out of what parts could be found. I am currently cutting up the plastic hood parts to make them fit, but then I plan to cut them out of some .015 brass sheet. I can then add some light damage to them. I may also do the same to the fenders or use thin aluminum. Here is where it is at right now.
  14. If I have less than 6 going at once, I start to get the shakes. I then have to open a new kit and inhale fresh styrene to get it to stop.
  15. I love what you are doing with this. Looks great. As for the dash. They were never body color from the factory. They were always a more satin/flat interior color. I know this because I own a 1:1 and my family has owned several. However, many have been painted body color during restoration as it does look good.
  16. That’s what I was thinking, save as much of the original as possible, but use the repop AMT body to rebuild it. That way you keep some of the original vintage kit.
  17. Any chance you can use parts from the 007 Mustang to rebuild this one?
  18. I know the car, the UK equivalent to our Chevy Chevette.
  19. You must be in the South. I think you can throw a rock from one Walmart to another. Like in Seattle, you can, in some places, sit in one Starbucks and see another. There is even one corner with 2
  20. That’s cool that you added the rack. This way a key point of advertising for For in 1971. They compared it to Jaguar and BMW. So, this little addition is a great nod to the car’s history.
  21. I hear you on the black. I have a large collection of finished models, only one is black, flat black. I only did this as the truck I was replicating was flat black and weathered. My father was a bodyman and he hated painting black cars, they had to be perfect or the flaws showed up like they had a neon sign on them.
  22. I will be watching, I have wanted to build one of these, but have yet to pull the trigger
  23. I find that I get new ideas and move to another build. It allows me to not rush the big builds. I recently did a purge where I would not allow myself to start anything else till all my WIPs were done. I still have a couple large scale kits needing completion, but I got all my 1/24-25 stuff finished. I do love the primer stage too. It allows you to sit back and see the vision come together, it also allows you to see if a change in direction may be a better choice. I have an RV project that I build a little, them put it on the shelf to look at for a while, then I bring it down and work a little more. I would love to see everybody's primer projects.
  24. I think you are getting them confused. The 59 El Camino is 1/25 scale, but the box is larger. The 1/16 are the 57 T-Bird, 55 Chevy convertable and Nomad, 57 Chevy and the 1980 Firebird (current kits). I have never seen a 1/16 El Camino, I would buy it if I did. I have the 1/25 El Camino below.
  25. Every time I pull this kit out, I have to remember it is an old, old tool and it is nice just to have a model of a pinto. while a new modern tool of a Pinto would be nice, it will never happen, who would buy one? So, I see it as a challenge to make this old kit into something decent.
