Because this is the Thunderbird SC, the SC refers to Super Coupe. This would have been factory with the Yamaha built Supercharged V6 engine. These were way more powerful that the 5.0L from the Mustang. I have driven these cars and they are fast. My favorite memory of these cars is that the hood is really big, the rear suspension is rather soft. When you hit the throttle to the floor and accelerated hard, the rear would drop, the front would rise and all you could see in front of you was the huge hood. Lots of fun to drive. I worked for the Ford dealer when these were new.

Does this ever happen to you? I had 2 big projects that I needed to get done, one was the 359 Pete for the TAT build, and the other a White/Freightliner Septic truck for the Cannonball Run build. I also finished up a School bus, Iveco Stralis and a Starsky and Hutch Torino. Now my bench is empty, I have other kits and other builds that I can or need to work on or finish. But I am now looking at everything I have and need to pick the next thing to work on, it is just a strange feeling. Maybe I have been working so hard to get these finished, I am now overwhelmed with the freedom I have to choose. Anyway, just feels strange. I am sure I will be deep into the next project by the time lunch rolls around.

Cannonball Run Septic Truck
Oldmopars replied to Oldmopars's topic in Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Thank you all for the encouragement. It was a fun build -
Well, after almost 8 full months I have finished the TAT entry. You can see much of the build progress in the build thread area. I am happy with the results. I grew up in Oregon and live in Washington and so these trucks are a big part of my growing up years, they were everywhere. I wanted a truck like they drove when I was a kid, nice shinny, pride of the driver type truck. Some of the trucks I saw looked like show trucks. Others looked like they dragged them from the bottom of the ocean. Anyway, I started with the Cali Pete kit and found a log trailer on E-bay. The interiors of these trucks are terrible. The tub is tapered badly, so I scratch built a new tub that fits tight in the cab. I made custom door panels with arm rests, door cranks and pleats. Being a log truck I had to extend the frame by abut 1.5in. to give it the tail it needed. The chain box bottom is cut out and screen added to represent the mesh it would have. Exhaust stacks were cut off and replaced with Aluminum tubing cut at an angle. I added chains and cables to the cradles and rack. I also replaced the mirrors with scratch built wire frames, the kit ones are so thick, they look way out of scale. A little BMF on the hood center and the air cleaner tube and thats about it. Hope you like it. It was fun to build this very old re-pop kit for the first time. I could never afford it when I was a kid.

concrete pump truck
Oldmopars replied to jeffdeoranut's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
If you are looking for the Euro look type truck, Italeri has several that would work. Try this Scania 143, it has 3 axles, you would just need to add another in the front. It also does not have the raised cab that most other trucks have. I have one I am almost finished with, it is a real nice kit. Big V8, lots of details, etc. https://www.emodels.co.uk/italeri-1-24-scania-streamline-143h-6x2-platform-truck-3881-plastic-model-kit.html -
Cannonball Run Septic Truck
Oldmopars replied to Oldmopars's topic in Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
The door decal is from the C600, but it is the same decal as is found in several kits like the Blazer, the El Camino, other construction kits. I should have included milk jugs, but they still will have to stop for food. Fuel just takes so long when you have that big of tank. -
Cannonball Run Septic Truck

Thank you everyone. I couldn't care less if I come in first or last on the build contest, it was a fun build and and stretched my building skills. It was fun to build something different. -
So, you may or not know that there is a community build for Cannonball Run, it has to be an in-line engine, but no other requirements were stated. I figured the biggest thing about this race is not speed alone, but not stopping. So, I went with a Septic truck, because what cop would want to stop a stinky smelly septic truck. This is why some of the "Product" is spilled on the sides. In reality the tank would hold lots of fuel and there would be 2 drivers that trade off and drive non-stop. So, I built this. It is the White/Freightliner SD kit. I built the main kit as is with just some mods to the engine. Because this is a race after all, I added a turbo and custom intake plumbing. I then got rid of the exhaust stacks in favor of a scratch built under frame muffler. Some scratch built wire mirrors and the truck is done. The tank was a bit of work. It started life as PVC plumbing caps and coupler. Once glued together I added some ribs and a top cap. The back has a drain port and valve to remove all the "product" that it carries. The ladder up the side help you inspect the "load" and warning signs keep the Fuzz from looking too close. I lightly weathered the whole thing to give it the cared for but used look. While this is not modeled after any specific septic truck, it is a hybrid of the many trucks I researched in building it. Hope you like it.

Years ago I looked for a Dart Lite and a Feather Duster. 4 speed OD A-833 Aluminum trans, Aluminum hood and truck lid, no options other than a heater. Cool cars. I ended up building as close as I could get with a 74 Duster, found all the parts except the hood and truck. Mine was Yellow with 340 stripes and dual exhaust, but still a slant 6. Fun car. OP, your 76 Dart looks fantastic. Very inspiring.

You think that is bad, I got an AMT Gravel trailer for a truck. I took it with me on a job where I stayed in a hotel. I worked on it several days just sanding all the flash and extra plastic off. When the maid came in the next day I am sure she thought that I had had a Cocaine party in there, everything was covered in white powder. I could have melted it down and poured car model out of all the flash and junk they left behind.

OK, now I think I may just have to let it sit for a while till the Duster is reissued. The hit Hobby Lobby and get 2 or 3, or 4 when they discount them to $7. I get more kits that way, like this silly Barracuda, I only paid $7 for it, I hate to spend $25 on a chassis to make it work. But $7, OK. Or, I will just use some sheet styrene to make it look like is is supposed to look. The inner fenders should be flat, not round like the kit. It is a MOPAR A or E body(can never remember on that year)

I have posted much more of a progress update in the Trucks Workbench section. But, so as all of you can see the progress I will post a few updated pictures here. Still a lot to do, no mirrors yet, the rear is just sitting in place, need to mount it, then I can finish the pump plumbing. Visor needs installed, as well as the bumper, the hose needs paint and weathering and much more. But, you can see where it is headed. If I was a Cop, I would not want to pull this truck over.

More progress. I am finally getting to where I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. I still have a lot of work left, still need to do more weathering. I need to make some mirrors, put the visor on, paint the fuel tanks and the Poo hose. I need to get some tubing for the ends of the hose also for the fittings. Still need to hook up the tubing to the pump on the side, and paint the one hose, can't hook it up till I get the bed mounted though. I weathered and detailed the engine, as you may know the kit is a non-turbo, I have converted it to a Turbo and went with a under frame muffler, all scratch built. Anyone recognize the phone number on the side? I have been creatively stealing decals from other kits to get the look I need. And yes, that is "Septic Juice" that is spilled all over the side. There will be some more in the future on the rear framework and hose.

Very Mad Max looking. I like it.

I kind of like it, it still has a little of the classic truck style, but with a modern look. They have to keep moving forward, if not they will die. Compared to several other modern trucks, this looks really good. I would build a model of one if someone makes it.

Can't wait for these to be done, I need to make one for my Daughter, and one for me, and one for....... -
Making slow progress but getting there. I finally got around to putting some paint on the Septic truck. I had planned to go with the Stool Bus theme, but could not find a good graphic to put on a decal that I liked. So, it is now going to be a septic truck for Universal Construction. Right now it is very "clean", it will not be when I am done, it will have evidence of the produce it hauls all over the outside when I am done.

I have this kit that has been on my shelf for a while. Every time I open it up, I just seem to put it back out of frustration. The kit is just bad. The chassis is zero detail, the fit is poor at best, the body is not very good, the grill and head lights are not even close to the 1:1. I know some have put the Duster chassis under it, but for me, that would be a waste of a good Duster kit, I like them better. My plan was to put a slant 6 in it, and so I gave the engine away. I wanted to make a very basic, low trim level 'Cuda If anyone has any suggestions of how to turn this Sows Ear into a Silk Purse, let me know. Otherwise it will go back on the shelf or be traded for something I can use.

Keep in mind that the grill opening of the C60 truck is taller than the C10-30. The grill would have the Chevrolet letters on top of the grill, where the C10-30 it is stamped in the grill. You would need to have 2 front ends, and graft them together to get the right grill opening. It can be done. https://www.purplewave.com/auction/150429/item/F7609 VS. https://www.autabuy.com/Vehicles/Details.cfm?VID=42187510&Year=1965&Make=Chevrolet&Model=C10
