Short story. Built by Dave Turner around 1992, it won GSL in '94. Model was purchased by George Zurowski. George passed away and Norm Veber borrowed it from George's wife to copy the engine and then reassemble the model and give it back to her. This 1/8 scale engine will be available SOON. (No, I don't have a part number from Reps & Mins yet.) Danbury Mint - 1/10th scale. Our 19th anniversary. The fantastic flathead cake was made by Dawn Powers. Bunch more stuff at the link; http://public.fotki.com/mamaprez/model-clu...7/mama-meeting/

How about some Re-Introductions?
Lyle Willits replied to Steve H.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Okay. I was injection molded in 1948 and originally released on January 6, 1949. I was reissued on December 4, 1999, after a heart attack but, unfortunately, I had the same old parts and the same old packaging. Since 1997, I've been president of the Maryland Automotive Modellers Assoc. (MAMA) primarily because I show up at all of the meetings and nobody else wants the title. I've done a bunch of masters for Replicas & Miniatures Co. of Md., used to provide hundreds of photos and books and proof-reading for The Model Car Garage photoetch sets and I've been fortunate enough to have had one front cover on Model Cars Magazine. (my avatar). To earn money, in between Nigerian email scams, I work as a biomedical technician. A few years back, I did a few marketing study model cars for the Franklin Mint and was payed an obscene amount for those silly little metal cars! I used to have a couple of kids, but they've been full grown adults for many years now. I have one beautiful grandaughter in California so I don't get to see her very often. Last, and most certainly NOT least, I have a wonderful wife who is my best friend, goes everywhere with me and completely supports my hobby. -

I was going to tell you a little bit about myself, but Billy Kingsley took up all the bandwidth! -
Hope the wheels on this Merc bandwagon can hold the weight.
Lyle Willits replied to Lyle Willits's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Wheel covers are '58 Caddy from SJS,,,the same ones you are using. I carefully ground down the center "hat" and added a chrome bullet. I got several wheels from Steve many years ago. Glad that I did. The colors are in my avatar. Remember, this is the MAMA logo car. -
Are you accusing me of "KRENING" your model???? Yours had a gold roof Actually, this DAVE LINDSAY photo was my inspiration. Hey Irv - you going to Sept. Showdown?

Just wanted to show the Buick side spear from Replicas & Miniatures Co. of Maryland. It is one piece (for each side, of course) thin, in scale and correctly detailed as you would expect from anything mastered by Rik Hoving. After it is glued in place, using CA glue sparingly, the separation lines can be cut in for the door openings. Next Sat. is the 19th birthday of the Maryland Automotive Modellers Assoc. and to the best of my knowledge, no one has ever built the MAMA logo car. So I am !!!

Subtle lip built around grille shell. Corvette-type grille from parts box. Lowered with posable steering. BOB DUDDEK lakes pipes with the ends drilled open and the caps mounted in the open position. Stock rear bumper. Smooth front bumper from a Revell '54 sedan delivery kit. Frenched tailights are simply BMF in the indentations for the stock tailights and Tamiya clear red. These pipes from BOB DUDEK are just too cool! Steelies have chromed spiders from The Modelhaus and Bare Metal Foil trim rings, which, in my opinion, is the only way to make trim rings IN SCALE. '59 Vette engine with all the chrome dulled down to make it aluminum. Lots of plumbing added. Reps & Mins predrilled distributor. Battery from Revell '56 chevy kit. I spent alot of time on the interior,,,,,,,and then put it in a closed car!!!! DUH! Ready to drive to Lloyd Woddington's shop where the '49 Merc MAMA logo car is being started.

Thanks very much Tom. I only needed one Is there a second theme (or subtheme)?????

I had it before I had to get a new hard drive. (Actually, at my age, I just like saying "hard drive")

The real car was the Villa Riviera, built by Barris, from a '63 Riv. The custom parts are in the AMT '65 Riv. kit, although I wouldn't swear ALL the parts are there to exactly duplicate the car. The car was used in several movies and eventually was owned personally by James Darren. I saw the car in the 90's and it had been repainted blue and was, at that time, owned by a guy in Connecticut. Here's a link to a video. It looks like the car has been restored to it's original red color. http://www.brightcove.com/title.jsp?title=...channel=2621254

Super September Showdown VIII
Lyle Willits replied to Daniel Peterson's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yes, I'll be signing autographs in the booth in the corner. I'll also be selling posters and magazines while wearing my bright red hot pants and tight yellow t-shirt which shows off my very full hooters,,,,,,,,,,,huh?,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,oh,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,wait,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,apparently I was channeling Jungle Pam for a moment. Okay, as discusting as that was, it served the purpose of bringing the September Showdown thread to the top again!!!! -

Cool cars, 1977 or older. I skipped over quite a few cars because it was 102 degrees in Richmond yesterday. Even though I drank gallons of water and sat down several times,,,,,well, I'm no spring chicken, ya know. Enjoy the 371 pics at the link: http://public.fotki.com/mamaprez/car-shows...mond-nationals/

Rik smoothed and peaked the hood, filled the cowl and made the Duvall windshield. He also modified the door tops and the interior panels and made smooth running boards (not used on my model). You 're right - Rik's custom work is often very subtle.

Lyle Willits, please respond!!!!!!!!!
Lyle Willits replied to cruz's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I just talked to Norm and he IS GOING TO TOLEDO AND HE WILL BE SELLING! He wasn't sure until recently if he would go because of the raw deal he got from the state of Ohio. Actually, I think he heard that Tom Kren was going and those sales, alone, are 2 or 3 mortgage payments for Norm. -

Here are the NEW items for the Revell Merc from BOB DUDEK. (Norm makes the clear resin lenses for him.) All of the custom parts mastered by Rik Hoving over the recent years and made by Replicas & Miniatures Co. of Maryland, can be used perfectly on the new Merc and those pics are found at the link: http://public.fotki.com/mamaprez/model-clu...eeting-8182007/ -
Inspired by a DAVE LINDSAY photo (so what else is new?) and in the tradition of Irv Arter and Matt Trotta, I had to start a mild custom '51 Chevy. (Yes, I know the car in the pic is a '53.) It will sit lower than this. All handles, trim and emblems have been removed, the vent frames thinned and a subtle lip built around the grille opening. I made a new, simple chrome strip for each side. The grille will be Corvette teeth with a turn signal lense at either end.Front and rear pans will be reshaped to accept the smooth bumpers from a Revell '54 Chevy sedan delivery. I found that the King Bee headlights from a Revell '32 Roadster will french right into the headlight holes,,,,,doesn't get easier than that. Bob Dudek lakes pipes will be used. Roof will be silver, body black. I have a lot more detail to add to the '59 Vette engine. I'm using the stock interior, with some piping and detailing. Bob Dudek aluminum mufflers and the beginings of a scratchbuilt exhaust system. That's all for now

I'm a little confused (nothing new). The pics of the Merc-related resin parts are already on this forum in the MAMA Meeting pics. Why would I post them again? -
Can you tell us who is doing the castings? Let's face it,,,,,,there are a couple of casters that one wouldn't dare buy a product from if it was sealed and shrink wrapped, especially for $100.

Frenched aluminum headlight buckets and clear resin lenses for the NEW MERC from Bob Dudek. Ron Hamilton's '60 Ford. Howard Weinstein's beautiful conversion. Nope! It was not put into resin first,,,,,sorry. More stuff at the link, including several pics of products from Replicas & Miniatures Co. of Md. for the NEW MERC! http://public.fotki.com/mamaprez/model-clu...eeting-8182007/
