Anyway - time has not been kind to the Hill 49. So ive decided to dispose of this treasure - with or without a proper burial - not sure …. By the way - that goop in the picture with the kit wheels is what’s left of those magnificent kit tires - so heres a tip - DO NOT -store old Tamiya kit tires in a plastic bag in an unheated garage - this is what you get if you do - maybe ill try some with my ice cream tonite …

Of course Tamiya would soon produce a kit of the B spec 49 - but 14 yr olds arent very patient - so i set about creating the 49 B - and as you can tell - this was my first attempt at making a large scale race car - it didnt help that Tamiya supplied plug wires that scaled out to about 1.5 inches ! And yes i wired it to run on a battery set in a casing where poor Mr. Hill’s feet were supposed to go - the electric motor fit into the engine - which is partly why the engine was so inaccuate - I actually got mine to run - really !

Never ever - well not quite - years ago Bill Jorgensen did a 25th scale resin kit - it was curbside - good luck finding one. Nice job on this rare kit - and dont feel bad about the poor fit of the body - no one else got it To fit - i should know - i tried and failed when this kit first came out … -
I swear to God - back in the early eighties - when Pocher went belly up - some of their kits ended up on goodwill store shelves - I bought a Rolls Royce Sedanca kit from the South Miami store for a silly price - silly low - and built that sucker. - it still sits in a display case in my office …

Paint is mostly Tamiya - with some Alclad here and there - the markings were a mess - mostly because i had to make some if my own and i applied the various markings in the wrong order - oops - -

The true details set had a not so good sheet of instructions and a whole bunch of tiny parts - it went together but needed some carving And Mods to wedge into the fuselage halves …. I replaced the radiator with something that actually looked like a radiator and jammed the cockpit into the fuselage … -
Gloster Gladiator
absmiami replied to absmiami's topic in WIP: All The Rest: Motorcycles, Aviation, Military, Sci-Fi, Figures
This is sort of a time lapse deal …. I finished thr Gladiator fri nite - about 8 hours before the group gathered for the display at the IPMS show - 17 planes - all way better than mine - -
Gloster Gladiator
absmiami replied to absmiami's topic in WIP: All The Rest: Motorcycles, Aviation, Military, Sci-Fi, Figures
Now i havent built an airplane model in - oh - 55 years …. But I adopted the Roden Gladiator - figuring hey - how hard could this be …. So without a great deal of clear thought - i bought the kit Off the shelves of the last remaining hobby store in South Miami - and made an on line purchase of an old True Details cockpit set …. And of course i had no idea what i was subjecting myself to … -

I’m the token model car builder in my local IPMS chapter. Last fall they organized a group display for an IPMS event in Pompano - the plan was to do a Battle of Britain display - 1/32 scale - and as members signed up for specific builds - no one seemed to wanT do the Gloster Gladiator - which of course was a biplane with great history …
