Roadworthy Rescue Wrecker
Steamboat replied to Steamboat's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Some progress on the wrecker bed. 95% of it is 3d printed from my own CAD files, including the bed floor, bed sides, kingpost, winch and towing hardware. I did use some styrene tubing and angle stock for the boom, and some styrene sheet for the bed rails. -
Yes, I still have them. PM me

Roadworthy Rescue Wrecker

I got some paint on it over the weekend. The body and wrecker bed were primed with Tamiya white primer, then airbrushed with a mix of craft paint to get the OD color. I then wet sanded some green off to get the primer showing through in spots. For the chassis paint, I just shot it with 4 different rattle cans at arm's length. -
Nicely done.

Beautiful build. Did you change the rocker covers? They are from a gen 1 hemi, either a Dodge 315 or 331.

Well done! Very nice, clean build. The detail on the Magnum 500 wheels is especially nice. -

Thanks for bringing this up. I just looked at my Monogram Ramcharger and that's the same as you mentioned. It certainly looks better that way. It would probably be easier to take the whole cowl panel from the Ramcharger, but at this point I'm not sure I would go to the trouble. -
I'm starting a build of the iconic wrecker from the 2nd episode of Roadworthy Rescues. I used the front half of the frame, cab and interior from a glue bomb MPC '77 Dodge pickup, 4wd, original issue. The wrecker is 2wd, so I adapted the front suspension from an AMT "Lil Red Truck". The engine will be from the AMT Duster. The 79 and later hood is a really nice piece from Hart's Resin. Most of the rest will be 3d printed, including the rear half of the frame, wrecker, grille and wheels.

I think there is a die-cast Dodge Power Wagon of the same era that would have similar wheels.

That's what inspired me as well. By chance I found an 8x10 photo at a car swap meet about 20 years ago and was taken by the looks of the car. It's taken that long for it to come to fruition!

Nicely done. It's a difficult kit to make look like the 1:1. You nailed it.

Any kits with a Gen III Hemi in it?

I ended up with these extra parts after doing a NASCAR build. I'm sure someone can use them. What I'm interested in: 60's and 70's Mopars, Star Wars, Star Trek

Beautiful! I'm sure that it wasn't an easy build. May I ask how long it took to complete?

Bend some solder or aluminum welding wire? I would just connect the one side and leave the other side as a dummy.

Looking awesome. Your work is amazing!
