MPC ‘36 Modified
bobss396 replied to shoopdog's topic in Other Racing: Road Racing, Salt Flat Racers
Nice clean builds. I go overboard with mine... too much like work. They are a good starting point though. I am finishing up a Pinto right now. I did the Vega last year. -
Old school late model
bobss396 replied to Vettegasser's topic in Other Racing: Road Racing, Salt Flat Racers
I like it, nicely executed. I use a lot of Ron's stuff on my cars. How much work was the rear clip to install? I'm considering one for a late model Nova build. -
1963 Galaxie light weight

I really like it, nicely done. Everything looks very accurate. They were heavy cars but they could move. Plus larger cars were harder to pass. -
Food City Lumina

Very clean too... nicely done. I have a slew of these kits and similar ones. I never pass up a $3 NASCAR kit. They do build up nicely, I need a break from the Frankenstein builds I'm in the middle of right now. -
Interesting, I'm not totally in with no judging however. There is another show on the 18th in Peabody, looks like an IPMS show. I'll have to see if I can dig up some of who vendors will be at the RTS show. Thanks.

We have a local club that meets at a library, for at least 25 years. The time slot is only 2 hours, ours at a community center is 3.

1/24 Scale Seat Belt Buckles?
bobss396 replied to Noah H.'s topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Gofers are not so bad. I have never been successful getting the thick ribbon through the hardware and getting it glued together. I use either paper from other belt kits or ribbon. -

Let me know about the Tauton show. I might go. Like I said, my club was on shaky ground as far back as 2018 and 2019. Between 2022 and last year we were on the brink. Several in the club did go to another club.

The rentals are pretty inexpensive from what I have heard. Parking is always an issue, so think of that. So is access, it should be fairly easy to find and get to. The old Gilbertsville show was in a fire department hall and it was nice.

Then I will just have to build another and try that... thanks!

1950 Ford Truck (Pikes Peak)

The crashed version could be interesting too... -
Clear blue, interesting... probably gives it a lot more depth.

1/24 Scale Seat Belt Buckles?
bobss396 replied to Noah H.'s topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I have been using Scale Motorsports 1/20 scale belt hardware. It is not that much bigger and is a lot easier to deal with. -
For me, I try to avoid gloss black paint jobs, they are very unforgiving. Tamiya and Model Master Lacquers have nice metallic blacks. Or you can go clear pearl (TS-65) over the gloss black. Going gloss, the primer has to be as smooth as a baby's backside. Tamiya and Hobby Lobby both have good primers that are exceptionally smooth out of the can. Black hides nothing, significant scratches will show through a clear coat. I have been trying to lay down a clear coat that does not require a polishing. Which is hit or miss, I have a heavy hand with finishes and clears in general.

I lived in the world of NASCAR modifieds growing up. From the injected coupes, to the Vegas and Pintos, onto the newer sleek Cavalier bodies ones. The MPC kit is actually a starting point and not much more. I end up changing so much of it. I would work with any model company that wanted to make up a better more realistic one. I think that the market is there.

That is why he was acquitted. The judge made a huge error in judgement letting the media cover it the way they did.

I missed that one, but plan on taking my Ford before it gets too hot out. I have to sort a few things out on it hopefully this coming week. The venue is great, they have a food truck each week and an ice cream truck once in a while. It pulls a lot of cars. It faces west and the summer sun is brutal. If I go this coming week, I might drive my Mustang.

It helps to have real medical-quality tweezers to start with. Most of the hobby ones are too flimsy. Even used quality tweezers are good, I used to come across them at work.

I agree on the TS-46 advice, I just used in on my wrecker interior. Play around with the primer colors, I did mine over gray primer.

I like these over what Ron has, I have lots of his wheels and tires that I used on my two Fairlane builds. One guy in the club is a 3D printing guru so I have to talk with him. The OG source was a place called Nutmeg Hobbies in Virginia, I probably got these 15 years ago at a show. I still have more of them.

I have made a couple of them for other (stalled) projects in recent months. In this case they had to clear the injector stacks.

I won't know what is going on until the Thursday before the NNL East. I will let you know.
