Allison Charger - pics replaced - more work soon
Jantrix replied to Jantrix's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Thanks Ira. I'm a lot further along right now, but work/life has been keeping me off the bench. The engine is painted and being assembled. I just have to fabricate front shock mounts and the gas tank/mounts and I'll be ready to paint the chassis. I'm going to modify the rear bumper to allow for a parachute. And thanks to Carl, I have settled on this set of decals. http://firebird-designs.ecrater.com/p/16316481/big-noise-gasser-decal-set# I'll need two sets though to get the 1710ci correct though. Now I just have to find a color that goes well with the decals. -
Here's a couple builds that will getting the primer treatment. I need to take some updated shots. This is an AMT '70 Chevelle that was until recently being built for the fiance of a family member, but whom is now no longer in the picture. I've tried contacting him about the build but with no reply after 6 months, I figure it's now mine. The second is a '49 Ford kustom that will be flat black.

Thanks a lot Carl. -
Fantastic!

Actually my family is originally from Germany, but thanks for asking.

Yeah, I've built the same kit. It seems like modern quality control was born from the BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH that was produced in the 70's.

Okay just for fun, I'd like to start a CBP on Primer Rods. I saw one on TRaK and thought it was a cool idea. What is a primer rod you ask? Well folks it's a vehicle that never seems to get past the primer stage. Especially since a simple coat of paint on your 1:1 project car will run you $3000 + at the cheapest shop in town. A real nice paint job will require a second mortgage on the house. So this will be a tribute CBP to all those great rides that languish for years in red oxide,or some other primer. Rules - Model type - anything with wheels, that might be in someones garage, car port, driveway, or backyard, lovingly wrenched on, on weekends and holidays. Build style - anything goes, rat rods, tuners, semis, motorcycles, kustoms, whatever. Finish date - nah, we don't need no stinking finish date. Paint allowed - PRIMER! Which can be just about any color these days, so feel free to get creative. But primer is a flat/matte (non-glossy/non metallic) finish. Pinstripes, scallops, sponsorship decals, even racing stripes are all fine. It wouldn't be the first set of rally stripes I've seen masked off and sprayed with Rustoleum. Weathering - Primer is usually laid after the body work is done, but I've seen plenty of primered cars with rust coming back through. Dirty too. Starting point - any. The build can be brand new or it can be something that's been camping out on your shelf for 10 years, 95% complete. If you have some previously completed primer rods, feel free to post them up, it might give someone some inspiration. Let's get to work!

Hey that's a good looking custom. You are also the first person I've seen use the clear hood. Mine was not very good looking so I never even tried it.

I took your advice Luc and sent the following email tonight. To whom it may concern, I've recently seen the released test shots of your upcoming Model A 5 window coupe. As happy as I was to see it, I was very unhappy to see the offered engine. In real 1:1 hot rodding, the chevy small block is common because of their reliability and they can be had cheaply. But man, they are boring. Dull as dishwater. At car shows people will say, "Yawn, another small block chevy". As a modeler I'm not interested in dull. I want the hot-rodding-holy-grail engines. The nailhead in your upcoming '29 roadster is a home run with me and the scale auto community. We're very happy with it. So here's what we'd like to see 270 Dodge hemi with the Red Ram or Super Red Ram valve covers A 325 Dodge hemi with the polyspherical heads A good Chevy 348/409 with finned valve covers and air cleaners. A tripowered Olds Rocket (this one should have been a no-brainer for you guys) A 312 Ford y-block a Daimler 2.5 litre hemi the Ardun flathead from your 50 Ford pickup (another no-brainer) or just the nailhead again, with some different intake options would be better than the small block. Cmon guys. You know by now, your target demographic is us oldsters. We're not interested in dull, commonly seen stuff. We want what we dreamed about as kids. I'm really looking forward to the '29 roadster (I'll buy several) because that's what I've always wanted, although a Duval windshield would have been nice. You guys are cranking out some amazing kits. Really. The '70 Cuda and '50 Olds are fantastic stuff. The Deuces were top notch. Keep it up. Rob Mattis Tampa, FL.

As I recall the Monogram '39 Chevys has some very good ones. -
Please post pics of builds you painted with any hobby-type gold*

This is Duplicolor Almond Beige Pearl. A very nice pale gold that I like a lot. -
I'd like to add centrifugal superchargers to this as well. Prochargers, Paxtons, McCulloghs anyone make some good ones?

Outstanding!

Why didn't I think of that? It's back on the bench, and I'll do the best I can to get it done. -
BTD, it's good to see you here. Welcome.

So if we wanted to try the "bare steel" look on a model body, this would be the way to do it? -

Folks I'd like to ask you to help me come up with some sort of idea for some cool door art like you would see on a 60's-70's dragster. I've no problem using something from another kit or aftermarket vendor, it just needs to fit the build. Right now my only idea is the using the "BOSS" declas that come with the '67 kit. I could use some input. The paint color is not set yet, it will depend on the decals. And yes, this is back on the bench. New photos soon. -

It doesn't look that badly damaged. -
Some really great work here. Here's my V-28 '79 Camaro.

I know there are options guys, but I'm just saying why make a new version of something we already have in LOTS of kits. There are so many holy grail engines for hot rods (like the nailhead they are giving us in the roadster) that another SBC is just kinda silly really. They just did that in the Rat Roaster. How about a 270 Dodge, with Red Ram hemi heads or a 325 with polyspherical heads. A good Chevy 348/409 with finned valve covers and aircleaner, a tri-powered Olds rocket. I'm just saying they had other options besides the same-old-same-old. I don't usually do much complaining in these threads, I'm just glad they are still making new kits. I'll get off my soap box now.

Out of curiosity, are there headlights in the grill? I cannot see them.
