Ford 50's Pick-up
Jantrix replied to PatW's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
I think you did a pretty good job considering what you had to work with. Sorry to see those mold lines on the hood though. -
As I suspected. An awful lot of balanced brain folks here.

A Proton? Never heard of it.

I'd like to try an experiment and see how most of us fall on a left brain (logical) or right brain (artistic) test. My instincts say that most of us would fall somewhere in the middle as scale auto modeling is a mixture of both engineering and art, but I still think it would be fun to check out. If you're willing, go to the following link and take a 12 question test. There are NO ads, my anti-adware/spyware software had no issues with the site and there are no questions that require your identification. It grades on a left to right, 1 to 100 scale. I was scored at 63, which is slightly right brained and no surprise to me. Please post up your results. http://testyourself.psychtests.com/testid/3178

Another thing I'd like, is modified / lowered suspension for the Foose versions. They did not include that in the past Foose kits, but they did do it for the '70 Cuda release. In order for the big wheels and tires to look decent, you gotta get the stance right.

Instruction sheet? What is that?
Jantrix replied to Petetrucker07's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Well I worked for a long while without them. Until the Revell '32 three window coupe. For the ease of painting, I glued the inner wheel wells (for the highboy version) to the body. Everything was wonderful until final assembly when the interior wouldn't fit into the cab, because the wheel wells were there. Which the instructions had pointed out, if I have bothered to read them. So now I study the instructions thoroughly before building and will occasionally refer back to them. -
Ditto.

Radial Rod

I'm really digging this build. Very different. Looking forward to seeing it come together. -
I don't know what my problem is lately...
Jantrix replied to JTalmage's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That's my big issue too. My wife is all about spending time together that I very infrequently get evenings at the bench. As for burn out, I only really built things that I have a very cool idea for, and that usually keeps me in gear. When a model gets put away it's because, another model has gotten my attention or I've run into an issue that's gonna require some planning or parts. -
This can only be a good thing for the hobby in the long run. My only issue is that there is usually "limited" interest in modern hot rods/customs after the original release. Because trends change and they become dated. The Monogram '37 Fords for example. They are great kits, but they require a great deal of work to get rid of the 80's/90's styling. The Coupster, Chezoom & Wagonrod are also good examples. I love Chip's work ethic and his artistry, but his work leaves me uninspired. When i watch Overhaulin' I can envision the completed car at the very start of the show. He never surprises me. Every car is built like the one before it. Textbook modern resto-mod. The P-32 though, is an exception to that rule. I like that one.

Well it's time to resurrect this one anyway. I've got some old builds coming back to the bench soon. On the subject of my '49 Ford that I've been working on. I've decided I do not care for the work I have done and will be starting over on a new body I got from a friend. No top chop, rolled pans, no vent window. That's it. More soon.

Allison Charger - pics replaced - more work soon
Jantrix replied to Jantrix's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Yeah, that's where I'm going with this. The Charger came with that scoop. What I'll do is cut out the hood to clear the magneto and the scoop will cover it, but the scoop will be blocked off right behind the carbs, so air isn't moving past them, but being directed downward. Thanks very much for the encouraging words. An Allison powered model was always on my bucket list. -
Revisionist Stude
Jantrix replied to Joe Handley's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
One of my favorite subjects. One of the biggest reasons is because only cars that were eligible to race in the original CP are allowed to enter, 1950-54. Although it doesn't look like too much original Studebaker sheet metal is left in the car in the first post. With the aero styling of the Studes (waaayyy ahead of their time) it's hard to beat with a reliable power plant. Check out the stats here. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carrera_Panamericana -

Here's the carbs on the new plenum Hmm. There's gonna be some clearance issues with the magneto I think I'm going to have to come up with some sort of long scoop. Okay next up is completing the rest of the intake. Each side is three pieces and they'll need to be to drilled and pinned together, set in place and then cemented, for either side. Headers will be reversed and as they are hollow on one side so there is some work to be done to get them up to snuff. More soon. -

Some engine work today. Ignition wires. 24 of them. And the modified plenum for the dominators. Added some aluminum tubing to the distributors for the wiring. -

More chassis work. After some engineering discussion with Ace-Garageguy (thanks Bill) I decided to add more support to the front of the chassis. I'll add some braces at the weld points and at least one triangulation bar after I get the exhaust figured out, and a bolt-in cross bar that will run between the rails, located between the magneto and the carbs. I've also added a tranny support. More soon. -
Agreed. That is top notch. I picked up a new body for the '49. I wasn't happy with the chop and have decided to leave the top alone. More soon.
