These are the two kits, currently in my stash, that fit the theme. I'm leaning heavily toward the Matador, though realistically speaking, the Vette would make for a better racer. Unless something new pops up on the radar, that is. ? I was pretty certain the Tamiya Mustang and the Revell Ford GT would show up. I wouldn't be surprised, if this year we see a record number of Tamiya, Fujimi and Aoshima kits show up. They have by far, more purpose built race car kits than the American or German companies.

The closest to rim I've seen to these came in some of the 80's/90's releases of the Monogram 39 Chevy Coupe. But I don't think they were big n' littles.

Super impressive work this year gang.
-
I've seen Curt's wheels at GSL. They are top notch.
-
Aside from the obvious body differences, they kits are identical aside from interior pieces to fit the different body style. Maybe a wheel/tire difference depending on the age of the kit. I'm enjoying the work.

I'm enjoying the work. Keep it going.

I've just finished perusing the finished build thread and I just gotta say how very impressed I am with this years field of racers. I've seen a few movie/TV car built offs before and it always seems that there are the "usual suspects" that people always lean toward. The General Lee, the Bandit TA, the Rubber Duck Mack, any Batmobile, KITT, etc.. I was real happy to see that none of those showed up. You guys continue to be some of the most imaginative, creative builders out there. Well done. Now I just gotta figure out which one I'm voting for. ?

The fit of the rear fenders to the body can be kinda wonky. Some judicious sanding around those areas is recommended. Also the inline 6 from the Monogram 53' Chevy fits very nicely in there. Enjoy.

This looks really good Mike. I like it!

The EXCLUSIVELY '32 Roadster/Cabriolet ONLY thread. Show us what you got!!!
Jantrix replied to mrm's topic in Model Cars
The grey roadster was a personal challenge to come up with a deuce the way I would want one if I had the means. So this is the Revell roadster, channeled the width of the frame. The flathead that came in the sedn kit, and '39 Chevy headlights. The grill was made from two pick up truck rear fenders sandwiched together and then had slots cut. Wheels and tires from the Revell '29 Model A pickup. Paint is Duplicolor Graphite and Testors Wet Look Clear. The blue one is a late 80's build when I was 18 or so. AMT kit, slightly lowered with an SBC. -

Terrific work. Well done. -
I commend you on your experimental, throw-away-the-box thinking, but what was the main thought here? I'm intensely curious. Why not just use a modified 51 Chevy or Charger plastic body?
-
I have this kit and the custom AMT set aside. I'll be taking notes here. Good work so far.

I do like the LT5 though, nice choice to get it Cannonball ready. As late model engines go, it's a good looking engine.
-
Hmm. Somethings missing.

In the past I have "dictated" the theme for at least the first six runs and we had some excellent runs. I think the Vannonball was my only faux pas in that regard. We didn't start polling for the theme until quite late in our 14 years. In the end, it is your CBP and we have had some good response to the idea. There are a LOT of kits to choose from and lots of options. Whats available from Fujimi and Tamiya alone is enough to make your head spin. My $0.02.

Thanks very much, everyone. Much appreciated.

Thanks guys. Tim, great to see you on the forums. I miss seeing your work at the Florida contests.

I'm doing new photos of some of my older builds, so I'll post them up as I go. This is the AMT '65 Lincoln. I used the station wagon parts to create a four door pick up, used a lot of the custom parts from the kit, then scratch built the racks and the boards. A fun build. The boards may seem too long on the model, but for an old school long board they are pretty correct to scale.

What was the worst movie you saw at the theater??
Jantrix replied to slusher's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
That sort of thing doesn't bother me at all. I love heroic characters and I don't care what they change as long as they still respect the character and what he or she stands for. I can't think of a comic book character change that really irritated me all that much. I'm just a 52 year old adolescent who's overjoyed to see these characters (and their creators) getting their time in the sun. Excelsior! -

The Joel Schumacher directed and George Clooney starred, debacle know as Batman and Robin. I'm a comic book nerd so going to see these is a no brainer for me. I was not prepared for the level of disappointment here. -
My Matador is close to that too. But this is a KIT specific challenge. As long as it meets the requirement of a purpose-built, liveried race car, it qualifies. If you are talking about that Jag, I'd say it does. If you want to try something that is a bit more challenging, that's fine too. Honestly, that's always been the beauty of the CBR, you can go as mild or wild as you want. And I think your Jag and Howard's Aerotech, showcase that very well. I think the Aerotech would be a PERFECT candidate for this theme. Clearly a purpose built race car. It was an Oldmobile land speed test car and wears Oldmobile livery although fairly limited, but I think it would quality.

Terrific build! I liked everything except that crazy windshield when this first came out. You did a great job.

Interiors could be as race as you want, but trying to tuck the roll cages in such a way that it's harder to see from the outside would be encouraged. Several of us did that very well in the Sleeperball. Couldn't have said it better. Modifying the stock car body to be less stock car-ish, using parts from the production car, is what I originally thought of for this theme. Headlights, tail lights, license plate, side mirrors, get rid of racing fuel caps, and any other obvious race car details, etc. However, I honestly never thought someone would do a modern stock car. The windscreens alone would be a huge headache. Technically, putting the stock body on a race chassis, IS disguising the race car, just in a more all-encompassing way. It has been done many times in our years doing the Cannonball. This is a good question and I'm glad it came up now. In the end, this is Anthony's CBP and I've added my opinion. It will be his call on this.
