  1. You aren't the only one. Before he died, Harry had contacted me, via email, about doing an article about this CBP for the magazine. He was impressed by the longevity of this simple idea, the amount of repeat offenders ? and how supportive we all were of each others efforts. He said it represented the best of what online forums should be all about, but so seldom are in reality. He got sick not long after, sadly. We even had a resin caster/online merchant who approached me about provided us, at no charge, a winners package, but I never heard from him again. As for my entry, I'm losing interest in the Matador and am looking for an alternative that suits me. Due to my limited bench time, I'm generally looking for something that requires less custom work / scratch building / engineering. I thought the Matador was my ticket, but the poor quality of the kit, gets me grumbling.
  2. Yes, we did. In the second or third year we had an enterprising young fellow, who cranked out three Cannonball racers. To make it fair, I asked him politely (via PM) to enter only his best one in the race in December and he happliy did so, and the poll went off without a hitch. The next year I included this change into the official rules. Build as many as you want, but just one in the race. I do not recall if it's happened since, though.
  3. I'm not certain that Draggin Wagon "became" the Hangman. For certain they shared parts, but the rest of the model is so radically different that altering the molds to make another body would have been pointless. So very likely the Hangman used molds A and B from the Draggin Wagon, but then created new molds for the rest of the model. Also I believe the the Draggin Wagon was re-released as the Circus wagon just a few years ago.
  4. I've been planning on building this one in all it's cheesy glory with just an engine swap. It looks fun.
  5. Not to divert from the subject at hand too much, but check out Christopher Titus' bit on meeting Bruce Springsteen. Maybe it's on YouTube. Hilarious.
  6. It's a brilliant custom, and like a lot of Sam Barris' work, if the chop was a little less drastic could pass for a stock design. Like his Buick. I just never liked the color of the Merc.
  7. Well I was able to get a bit of bench time and I got the Chevy chassis stretched.
  8. Well I tried to use that lame Matador chassis, no dice. I've switched over to a modern Nascar chassis from the AMT Tony Stewart Monte Carlo. Time to mock up the chassis and figure out the wheelbase.
  9. STUDEBAKERS - ANY! A good 69 AMX kit. 1954 Kaiser Darrin 73ish Aussie Ford XC Falcon hardtop A Tucker A good Benz Gullwing
  10. I've done the 24hr twice and was not successful either time. It was fun though. The 72 hour July 4 run was much better for me. I will think hard about this upcoming run though.
  11. Al, truer words have never been said. It was such a gamble coming to Idaho (of all places), but it has all worked out so well for my family and I. My wife and I both had no issues keeping our jobs though the pandemic, same with my sons, who are doing well. I have a one year old grandaughter. Life is good. I just wish I could get more models in the done column.
  12. Thanks for the laugh Walt, a darn near sprayed soda all over the keyboard. The Revell Goodguys version of the Willys, will provide you with an Art Morisson style chassis should you desire it. I've used it for the Cannonball a couple years ago and it's quite good. You are in the right place Mike, welcome to the forums. Guys, Mike is a member of my local face-to-face model club and an excellent builder. He provided the 3D printed, twin turbo SBC for my build. So glad to see all the great work happening. As usual my build is inching right along.
  13. I've never seen this version of the Deora. I'd build that.
  14. If you've seen my work over the years (the little there is of it), you'll notice that there isn't a great deal of body modifications going on. It's not my bag. I don't enjoy it. I've ruined a fair number of bodys over the years, attempting it. And because of that the Revell Merc is an absolute favorite of mine. Most of the bullet points mentioned as a detractor, I rather like. The kit goes together VERY nicely, has great detail and looks great right from the box. I'm glad that we have both kit versions of this car, that way there is something for everyone's taste.
  15. Thanks very much Stef. It was a real fun build.
  16. Terrific! I like it.
  17. You have a very unusual style and as a huge fan of flat colors, I really like it. Love the 66 stocker. It looks like a real beast.
  18. Wow. Dynamite work. Can't wait to see her chromed and done.
  19. Thanks Chris. It really is a great life out here. It's so much nicer than dealing with the 'burbs.
  20. After a lot of thought, I have decided against using the kit AMC 401 engine. There are things I can do do dress it up a bit, but I have this SBC available to me soooo. It's a 3D printed engine kit done by one of my club members. I'll have it in hand on Thursday. Perhaps some wheels/tires too. I see some guys are dealing with the visible roll cage issue. The way I see it, per NHRA rules an 6 point roll bar is good up to 6.99 seconds or 135 MPH. Odds are a Cannonball racer will never hit those speeds. I'm going to shim the roll cage to get it as close to the roof as possible and move the rear downtubes as far left and right as possible, so the C pillar camoflages them as best it can. I'm going to sand away the molded padding on the bars as well. I may also look into scratch building louvers for the rear window but that might be a stretch. I plan to start in earnest this weekend after I have the engine.
  21. Never. I have a modest stash of 80 kits or so and peruse them often.

    1962 Chevy

I like it Jim. Another cool build.
  23. There is a 2 door on RR's website. That's is good as your likely to get. http://www.resinrealm.net/GALLERIES/RRGallery/index.html
