sanding Tiger stripes in color coat?
Oldcarfan27 replied to jaynew246's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
My concern is that you can't get good, professional results using spray cans, airbrushes and acrylic craft paint. But if we offer something you can use, my best to you. -
sanding Tiger stripes in color coat?

To add to what Blacksheep said. The painting techniques for model cars is completely different than full size cars. You'd probably get better advice from another forum dealing with that kind of work. -
Current building techniques
Oldcarfan27 replied to Bobjernigan3's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Years ago, I would build straight from the box and I was content. It was all about quantity. As I gained experience, I started to want to improve what was there and I added and changed what was in the kit. Came a point where I wanted something that wasn't available as a kit, so I had to improvise. That started me down the road to scratch building and "accurizing" cars. Since model companies are limited in their ability to do everything to exact scale, I began to think and research how I could improve the shape and feel of the bodywork. My take is if the body looks like the 1:1 from all angles, then it's good for me. I look at rooflines, roll unders, contours, tumble homes, peaks and valleys. I like the model to have the same complete shape as the real thing - only smaller. It's not always possible, but I try. To me, that is the most fun part of modelling. I may not have a large shelf of completed kits, but that's not the goal. For me, it's the journey, not the destination. I've had other builders take my unfinished projects because they liked the bodywork I've done and I'm fine with that. If I'm done with it and don't plan on ever finishing it, I'll move it on to someone who will. I'm content with my place in the hobby. -
There was an article written in one of the modelling magazines back then on this very topic, using the same kits you have. The author wrote that he had to build an '86 as the interior is the same as the '87. The rest was built just as Plowboy suggested. He also had to source the 10-hole "phone dial wheels", which is made easier today since Revell has issued their '90 Mustang coupe. Results looked accurate and the instructions made it look pretty straight forward. I attempted the conversion - twice! But never finished either of them. Got as far as completing the bodywork and got distracted. "SQUIRREL!!" I'll have to find them in the "closet of doom" and post them here for you to see how far I got.

You may not be an older builder, but you've sure got the spirit of one. I like all your choices!!! -

Looks like you may have a Palmer/Lindberg 70 Corvette, judging by the orange color. Looking forward to seeing your build. Sounds like you've got plenty of parts to make a good one! -

Well balanced, well spoken and clearly explained. Like I've said all along, EVs are good technology and offer benefits to some drivers, but they are not and should not be forced as the ultimate solution for everyone. Problems with the propagandists agenda will rear it's ugly head soon enough. I wrote this for another thread but I think it fits here too: A little something else for the forward-thinking modernists to think about... The proponents plan is to shut down ALL oil and fuel production, including coal, natural gas, propane, diesel, crude oil which includes heating and lubricating oil. Forget having your BBQs, cookouts, heating your home and water effectively. Unless you stock up on large supplies cord wood - before they outlaw harvesting trees. Can't purchase Charcoal Briquettes, either. Too much pollution. Without any motor oil, how are all those machines - electric or otherwise, going to keep from going up in smoke? And coolant/antifreeze used is not made from water, it's a synthetic. Also, without oil there is no asphalt, without asphalt those electric cars will have rough roads ahead. Without vinyl, nylon and polyester, there won't be much left for those cushy seats and carpets that those EVs need. Oh, and leather is not an affordable alternative. Anyone ever try to upholster everything in cowhide? $$$. And those pesky bovine have one major sin - they pollute horrendously and also contribute too much to global warming, can't count on having them for future generations. Wanna live in a tiki hut? House construction contains Polyvinyl Chloride or PVC used in plastic piping, Bitumen used in waterproofing. Fly ash used in concrete. Open and closed-cell foam for insulation. Better get used to having wood or cast iron cell phones, with no provisions for the high tech internals. Polymers are used in fiber optic cables. And readers take this one to heart: no more enamel, lacquer and hardened paints. No more paint thinners. No more solvents for your plastic kits. In fact no more plastic at all! Plastic doesn't grow on trees, it comes from what? You guessed it - petroleum. But at least we can have lighting at our benches - between blackouts. But I'm sure none of this schpiel will have any effect on those set on the next way of the future. Or will it be the past? Living as our ancestors did, without all the modern conveniences we now take for granted.

Get the L.A. Dart kit. Bashing that with the AMT 71 Duster and the Revell 69 Dart should provide you with enough parts to build your replica. Best wishes. Addendum: just repeated the same thing that 72coronet said.

I'm waiting for the hover conversion technology. Using Mr.Fusion. -
Don't worry, pretty sure Nicolas Cage will drive the pseudo Shelby clone Mustang and I think Angelina Jolie Drives the 2015 Charger that gets blown up using substandard CG effects. And the story will have some lame politically correct inoffensive storyline that nobody will be interested in, so the movie is banked on being a huge money maker. Not!! So much easier than writing all new, original screenplays.

I'm excited about the list of new releases. Steve, I do have apprehensions about the 68 GTO. The side window openings look a little wonky and those Rally IIs don't look any deeper than current issues. I'm disappointed the 65 GTO only has dog dishes, when Tim said hubcaps, I was thinking full hubcaps. Not every muscle car came with "doggies" and "rallies". In fact, very few did! Most had hubcaps - common full hubcaps. What ever happened to wheel covers?
