  1. A head transplant should be a simple operation.? Seriously awesome work going on here. The cream and maroon colour scheme sounds nice.?
  2. This came in a box of parts, and I’m just wondering what it might be from. Thanks, Greg.
  3. In honour of Snake45, I decided to strip the completed engine and paint it the proper color. I added a few extra details other than the plug wires that I had already installed, like some fuel lines, breather hose, alternator bracket and PS hoses. The PS pump is still hanging out in the middle of nowhere, but not too noticeable after installation I hope. I borrowed the chrome valve covers from a Polar Lights ‘64 GTO since I had stripped the originals.?
  4. Victimhood is a state of being in which I prefer not to partake.
  5. Beeuutiful paint job!
  6. Cool looking project!? I haven’t seen one of these kits before. My wife has a 2014 JKU with a manual trans and I love it. I’m not going to let her trade it in when she’s ready for another vehicle.?
  7. I hope the OP either passed the kit on to someone who can do it justice, or decided to take his time and gain some skills before attempting to build it…I guess we’ll never know.?
  8. Strip the paint job AGAIN I did in order to start over.
  9. Excellent work on the conversion Tom!? I owned two of these in my younger days. I was my Dads, and the other I bought from a buddy. Both had the 250 six and 3 in the tree.?
  10. My favourite generation of Chevelle…and you did a very nice job of it!??
  11. Pieces that go missing…are by the carpet monster gobbled.
  12. I don’t recall where I got it Dave, but I’ve had it for about six years. For sure either from a club member or one of the flea markets here. It’s possible I guess…I have a really bad memory.? Anyways, thanks for the vote of confidence.?
  13. Pinecone designs is the name of my scale paint shop.
  14. Yes…so far. I kinda like the look, but I haven’t looked through my very limited stash of which and tires to see if I have anything nicer.
  15. Some door handles are molded so poorly that they can’t be modified accurately….so it’s either live with them or replace them.? But if they are real nice it is relatively easy to fix them. It does take a steady hand, a sharp eye (6x cheaters?) and sharp tools. And the satisfaction is priceless.
  16. Was what I saw really a UFO?
  17. Bump! Maybe this should be a sticky? You definitely need a good quality drill bit for this operation. Last thing you want is your bit wandering off and damaging things beyond the point of no return.? I use a large darning needle to mark the spots to drill. I also cut a really skinny strip of #1000 sandpaper and use it like dental floss to smooth the inside of the handle.
  18. This one maybe? https://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/71690-drill-out-that-door-handle/
  19. “Stops on a dime now” said the mechanic.
  20. I didn’t do a dedicated build thread Bil, but put it in this community thread. https://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/188879-the-49-mercury-thread-because-if-you-havent-built-one-yet-you-should/
  21. I’m along for the ride too Bil.? I recently built one, and I agree, it is a really nice kit.? The only part that doesn’t have real nice locating points is the sidepipes.
  22. And…it’s in primer.
  23. Thanks Curtis. I used a .031” drill bit in a hand held pin vise. I VERY carefully drilled four holes, then used a sharp hobby knife to whittle and scrape out the center. Then I cut a long strip of 1000 grit sandpaper about 3/32” wide and used it like dental floss to smooth out the hole. I see it needs a bit more dressing.
  24. Thanks, that is how I research all my builds David. I searched this car too and have yet to find one without the so-called “skegs” on the rear quarters. I wish I had taken a picture from the rear also.
  25. Nope. The “bubble top” roof was not available in’62 as far as I can tell. Plus, the parallel body lines come to a point at the rear of a ‘61, whereas they stay parallel on a ‘62. More likely some where along the line a ‘62 or later bumper was installed and the rear fenders modified to match? Just my guess.?‍♂️ Edit: It doesn’t look like a ‘62 bumper either. Maybe just some custom work? 1962
