Absolutely on the money here, with the exception of the more dedicated "replica stock" community who correct bodies, match color codes, and parts swap their way to specific cars that existed rather than the more generic examples in the kits. As to NuNu's new 935K3, couldn't be happier and certainly hope to get a crack at building it.

Positively spot on for the model and it's great to see the new home that it's found!

This has a real presence to it. I love the stance and the color combo.

Definitely cool to see a 3rd gen MX5 built.

This is a really exciting build to watch of a particularly exciting car.

Looks pretty good to me. BRG actually suits the F1 pretty well.

It's not an easy kit but it's so worthwhile to see completed. Very nice work!
-
Love the way that turned out. It's definitely a gem of a kit that I hope Tamiya reissues again.
-
I can think of a few things that would be utterly fantastic to see... - A new MGB GT transkit for the Aoshima MGB kit (since the AAM kit has become unobtainium) - A road-going interior for the Belkits MkI Escort to build street cars - A "low drag" E-Type transkit for the Heller kit. - A transkit to build a Plus 8 out of the Tamiya Morgan Plus/4.
-
The Tobias chassis under that kit and its companion Gremlin are pretty tricky to get together, and the multi-piece bodies aren't exactly friendly either. Glad to see yours in such nice shape!

It really has been fantastic to see your builds again. Count me as well among the builders you've inspired with your craftsmanship.

Fisher 1/24 Ferrari 512S yellow longtail 1970
Justin Porter replied to Rich Chernosky's topic in Model Cars
Another gorgeous 512! -
This has been a build I've been working on for a little less than a month but it's come together incredibly well. The kit is Aoshima's freshly reissued MGB MkI and it's a kit with quite a few nice touches. The included photoetch and precut masks for the windshield were definitely nice to work with, and the kit as a whole just dropped together. I painted it with AK Interactive's RC022 Blue from their Real Color line and covered that in a few coats of Tamiya Clear.

Ever since Hierwater built the Sunoco #6 Fisher kit in the other mag, I had envied these kits so badly. Yours turned out superb!

A: It's far from their only high performance sports car given that the GT86 and Lexus LC500 are still alive and well. B: Why tool up an entirely new straight six and platform when the goal is a profitable mid-volume sports car? Works out well for BMW as well since now a much bigger company has absorbed tooling costs for a new generation of what's been a dwindling returns model; the Z4. As to the kit, I'm not at all surprised and I'm looking forward to putting it on the shelf especially if it's embraced Tamiya's more cost and design contained philosophy like we saw on the NSX.

It's definitely a baffling reissue when the recent '56 post is in the tooling bank. We really REALLY need these "legacy" kits to quietly disappear.

Revell Land Rover Series 3 109 inch

This is such a fantastic announcement and it's going to be a great companion to the early Bronco and 60's Suburban kits. -
Do you prime all pieces
Justin Porter replied to youpey's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Admittedly, it comes down to the kit and the paint I'm working with. For instance, I have a few of the Revell SCCA Trans-Am Camaros, specifically the Baldwin Hot Wheels Camaro and the Sharp Rain-X Camaro. The Baldwin kit is molded in bright blue. Sharp's car is molded in a nearly translucent yellow. Any hope of a good result on those builds requires primer on every part so that the final color isn't effected. -
Given the sharp rises in accuracy and tooling on the military side of 100% Chinese companies such as Takom, Trumpeter, Rye Field, Meng, and on down the list, frequently of subject matter where there are very few if any surviving examples upon which to base the kit (Takom's magnificent full-interior King Tigers for instance) I would tend to believe it has little if anything to do with whether or not Chinese tool cutters have ever seen a 'Cuda. It may be Chinese manufacturing, but I'm willing to wager it wasn't the Chinese who came up with the initial CAD file that cut that tooling. Rather, it's just the terminally stunted design philosophy of Western model car kits that are trapped in the hazy fog of days when a T-bucket with a chrome helmet was the biggest thing in the world.

Fantastically turned out build. Always great to see one of these "de-contented" muscle cars. -
Gerald Wingrove has passed away.
Justin Porter replied to Bugatti Fan's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
For so many years, Wingrove was a benchmark in terms of craftsmanship, finishing, and research. It was no exaggeration to call him one of the world's preeminent modelers and perhaps the automotive modeler most respected by our colleagues in the modeling world at large. He will be missed, and his work will remain a testament to the artistry of this hobby. -
Very fun approach to the Tamiya Alfa. It's one of those "you have to try this out!" kits that drops together really sweetly.

What are YOUR favorite old kits ?
Justin Porter replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
As great a pain as it can be to build, the old Revell Austin-Healey 100-6 is a kit I love because it does hold up as a great replica even with its age. Granted, it's also the best argument that a 100% new Big Healey kit needs to be tooled up (Hasegawa? Ebbro?) but for now it sits nicely alongside classic sports cars built from much more modern tooling. -
That IMSA 280ZX is going to be so choice. Can't wait to build it in PLN's scheme.
