  1. This is a very cool car. And you did an outstaning job. I have one of these in my Martini section. Did you paint the red on. Decal work looks super smooth ot me.

  4. I installed two mounting posts and fitted the body to this kit sometime ago but for some unknown reason put it away. Since I am in a "finishing projects mpode" thought it was time to do it. Resin kits are often just the basics and you have to use youir imagination and research to breing them to life. This was no exception. Paint on this is Tamiya TS-34 British racing green. Car represents a fresh from the factory look. A big thank you has to go to Gary McNutt (Gramps46) who generously supplied the kit and also to Norm Veber of Replicas and Minatures of Maryland for the excellent wheels and tires. Rest of the details in captions under the pictures. Thanks for looking. Finished kit on its wheels. Went to great lenghts to get the wheels to steer. Knock offs are actually threaded on. Many oif the panel lines ahd to be deepened as the primer and paint would have covered them. Mirror is from the spares. This car had many mirror combinations. I added a few photo etch details from the spares drawer, Windscreen fit nicely but tended to spring away on the right side. There is a very tiny bent pin holding it in place at the top. Interior recieved some extra attention in the form of a new steering wheel, handmade shift knob, dash decals from spares. Note the v-e-r-y tiny PE fasteners on the outside of the screen.

  7. Helmut....who makes your 1/24 version. I have maybe 2-3 1/32 pieces in my entire. collection and would have much preferred this to be 1/24. This model was part of a fellow modelers collection so I took it and built it in honor of him since he passed away only recently. Thank you for the compliment BTW.
  8. Don't usually build 1/32 but found this kit at an estate sale of a fellow modeler. Was always fascinated by this car and this kit provided me with some unknown history. The car was built in the Alan Mann shops in 1967 for the 68 season. It utilized the highly successful Ford DFV 3 litre gran prix engine. Due to its aerodynamic shape and light weight the car was very fast but unfortunately unreliable. The project was dropped at the end of 1968. Model is painted with Humbrol #19 red. The rest of the modifications are in the captions under the pictures. Thanks for looking and comments welcome. Making the wheels steer was a priority. It looked easy enough but wasn't. The suspension was very fragile. Rear veiw of the car shows off it aerodynamic shape. No engine detail other than the rear deck with the molded in carb covers. This was a simple kit. The body was molded in two halves...top and bottom. I cut the front, rear and sides away from the bottom and glued them to the top. Purpose was to be able to fill in the seams and make a nice smooth body. It also caused some interior fitting problems but all were solved. Wheels are painted Alclad polished aluminium with Humbrol #19 on the spokes. I liked the way Humbrol sprayed but it took some time to dry. Gold is kit decal.
  9. That's a tough kit to decal. I think you did a great job. I use magnets and extra photo etch to hold those pesky decks down.

  15. Helmut..after looking at the pictures of the real car I would have to agree that the wheels on the model are too big. Still, its a good looking model and the added details make it a real recercar.
  16. Excellent collection of endurance racers Helmut. The variations are refreshing. Ii always liked the Heller version of the P4 because of the engine detail.
  17. Helmut...I have this kit in my stash for many, many years. Mines an original Heller. So nice to see it built and now that I know it can be done I may have to dig it out. Yours looks great , only hope mine turns out this good . If I may ask, what colour paint did you use.?

  19. Thanks Gary, you were the one who encouraged me to do that. I see lots of really great models on here but am often left wondering, what scale is it, what paint did they use or what problems they encountered. This site is about sharing but not everybody does.
  20. It took forever to find the aftermarket detail up set for this kit. But once it arrived I was excited to get it done. However, as it turns out, this kit is not for the feint of heart. I have built Tamiya and Fujimi 1/20 kit and they were a joy, not so much for Aoshima. It was mostly the small parts and extra details that gave me the most problems. Vague instructions certainly didn't help. But I kept after it and now its done. Overall I am pleased with the result. A lot more detail could have been added but since the upper body is completely removable I will do that when the fancy strikes me. More details of the build are under the picture captions. Thanks for looking. Feel free to comment. Right side engine detail. I added ignition wires and sensor wires to the intake. Note the photo etch clamps. that took some practice to get right. Left side engine. The exhaust and turbochargers were the most problem. I assembled them off the engine. In retrospect, I should have temporarily fastened the engine to the chassis and installed there, There were three locater tabs that I had to cut off and they would have helped in the assembly. Color on the pipes is alclad burnt iron with copper dusted on for effect. Interior came out nice with all the carbon fibre. Seatbelt material came with the upgrade kit and was made out of nylon. Getting glues to stick to it was problematic. This is an interesting detail. The tiny red painted photo etch piece at the top of the picture is the exterior release for the fire extinguisher. It was very tiny and fragile as well as being a two piece affair. Model finished and on its wheels. Before the upper body was installed it had that typical one wheel in the air stance. I thought I was going to have to do some fancy suspension bending to fix it but the upper body had enough force to straighten it out.....whew! Rear end veiw. That wing was several pieces and many more decals. Luckily it had a nice mounting and was easy to install. Note the p/e adjusters on the endplate. A nice touch from the update kit. Side view. I chose to use all the decals for the graphics. Best part of this kit were the decals. They slid off the paper easily, responded to solvent well and laid down nice. I normally paint these because large areas of decal tend to have wrinkles in them. There are a few but a nice coat of future will hide them when they are fully cured. Front veiw of the car that most of the competitors didn't get to see. This car, with its unique front wing design, and very powerful BMW engine took Nelson Piquet to the 1983 world championship.
  21. Mike...we all have that one project that just seems to linger on the workbench. We're glad when its finished. You persevered and that's important. In my opinion it turned out great. Just finished a Heller kit (BMW 328) myself and they are no walk in the park. You did well on this one. Looks good.
