Is it just my kit or is the tread area of the slick so sunken that I am l am leery of sanding it flush for losing some of the piecrust edging. Still, a very nice kit. I also have 12 or so Accurate Minatures and Revell Grand Sport kits with tires exhibiting the same shrinkage. Any suggestions for a period correct tire for these?

Thanks Dave. I will do that. I have all the Corvettes but would like the Iroc and the Firebird which are really expensive on Ebay.

Does anyone know who has the molds for the Monogram 1\8 scale car kits and what is the likelihood of seeing any of them being reissued?

Any news of Revell do something this year !

Do you think anyone will do a C8 Corvette ? -
I own a real 1977 Monza and have the Nitto Monza kit. The kit is 1/24 scale and is noticeably larger than the MPC and Amt kits. The body is not bad proportion wise, maybe a little slab sided in places but careful sanding should fix this. It is a motorized kit so the rest of the parts are pretty much useless except for the dash, seats and wheels which are ok. Overall, it was better than I expected. Much better than the AMT monza kits, which are caricatures in my opinion. I have seen the Nitto Skyhawk kit and except for the front and rear bumper caps all my comments apply to the Skyhawk. Looking again at the front and and rear caps on the Skyhawk the only difference between the two kits is the chevrolet script. Being 1/24 and if I can find another intend to use it as a basis for a Dekon Monza. I now know I can use the Skyhawk as well. Thanks

Testors metalflake spray bombs
monza77 replied to Roadrunner's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
If anyone in Canada needs some cans of Testors Extreme Lacquer to finish a project, Canadian Tire is clearing them out at $6.43 cdn, a saving of 3.16 cdn a can. Good selection of colours although you may have to go multiple stores. I have seen them at multiple CanTires. They are in the house paint section. I bought several but plan to use them quickly as I lost about 20 cans to bottom edge leakage. -
Thanks for clearing that up.

It is my understanding that the original AMT El Camino had the same wheelbase as the hardtops. The 1968 to 1972 El Caminos were built on the 4dr and wagon chassis (116.0 WB) vs the HT chassis (112.0 WB). Anyone ever compare the two ?

I used to have a MPC kit called the Superteen Firebird. I believe it was a modified 68 convertible. Was that a separate tool or was it a modification of an existing tool.

Didn't the Aerovette use a 4 rotor wankel, made up of two 2 rotor wankels bolted together?

Revell 1968 Chevy Chevelle SS 396...........My take
monza77 replied to MrObsessive's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I thought it came down to cost. The decal scripts are printed in silver ink and do not look realistic. The model manufacturers already have the licence to use those images (scripts). Wouldn't the aftermarket have to negotiate a licencing agreement of their own? I would love to see an aftermarket sheet with nothing but chrome foil scripts for GM cars. That said, I can't wait for this kit to hit local shelves. -

Why can't the manufacturers give us chrome foil scripts for the few scripts that would be chrome on these bodies? -

Thanks for replying. I was thinking printing it would be more accurate than my cutting it out. -

Now that I'm retired I would like to build some of the Can Am cars that the old Car Model and Model Car Science magazines provided plans for. The plans had cross sections of the cars that I thought could be used to make the buck. What I was wondering is whether there is software that could generate cross sections of newer cars from 3d models. If these could be made in a 3d printer, it would keep costs down, especially for larger scales. I know nothing about Cad so the info would be appreciated. -
And still no full detail C7 Z06 and I guess there never will be one.

And still no full detail C7 Corvette. I guess there never will be one with the problems at Revell. -
Are we ever going to see a C7 Corvette with a separate rear suspension and transaxle or are we stuck with Revell's promo type chassis?

The California Kid 1933 or 34 Ford. I think it was a made for TV movie.

I, for one really enjoy the interviews with model company personnel. Revell, AMT, Round 2 and me of the other larger companies (Tamiya) have been reasonably well covered. Who I would like to hear from are the people who were behind companies like Galaxie Limited, Polar Lights (funny car and Nascar era) and Accurate Minitures. Why did they do it, why they chose the subjects they did and to what degree they were successful (or not).I think I have a good idea about most of this but would like to know what went wrong between the initial idea for the polar light kits and the finished product. Specifically, I have all the PL NASCAR and FC kits but when I pull them out and look at the bodies I just go what the heck happened here and put them aside again. All these wonderful intricate subjects spoiled by the poor bodies. This may not be on topic but like others have said I also was not sure of its goal.

The lack of front upper control arms and the inner liner opening for them in many of the Revell and Monogram GM "G" body kits, including the recent 83 Hurst Olds. I never hear it mentioned unlike complaints about a lack of lower rad hoses or missing alternator brackets. I also dislike when a manufacturer does not provide an inner liner that reaches and meets with the fenders. Again, mostly a problem with the G body kits. Compare the front liners of the 83 Olds (wrong way to do it) with the Revell 1967 Chevelle kit (proper way of representing the inner liner). Many Chevelle kits have donated the parts that are missing

While there aren't many new cars I like I plan on buying multiples of the full detail kit. I hope Round 2 does a full detail C7 Corvette, seeing as Revell is dropping the ball by only doing only glorified toys, oops I mean snap kits of the C7. After the Revell Camaro and Cuda body issues Revell could stand the competition. We, (I) want a full detail C7

The Revell Monza is even worse than the AMT. I am going from memory but I think the body is pretty much a caricature of a Monza. It uses a generic non prototypical chassis plate and the body has the wide body kit molded on. The body has proportion issues. i have a Japanese 1/24 scale Monza (motorized) that has a nicely proportioned body but it may be bigger than 1/24. I will try to dig them all out this weekend and post some pictures of the contents.

I hope they didn't use the AMT Monza SS as a starting point as it is inaccurate around the side windows and especially the B pillar area. There may be other issues as well but they are in storage and I can't get at them until the weekend. Wasn't this kit issued in the period when AMT was doing funky things with their bodies? I am restoring my 1977 Monza Spyder (without Spyder decals which I removed the first day I bought it in 1977). I bought a pile of those AMT MonzaSS kits and actually built one and was happy with it for years, until I looked at it closer. Let us hope they used the MPC Monza kits (or promos) which appear more accurate. I am excited about the Dekon kit but will wait to see which kit was used as the base.
