Thanx Robert! I think I'm going to leave the hood scoop.

The six lug wheels aren't unusable. Chevy pickups have been six lug for a long time.

Question about a Paache airbrush
Plowboy replied to Plowboy's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I don't need an airbrush that will last very long. I just need it last long enough to spray a few cans of paint that have lost their propellant. All of my models (except three older models) are painted with a rattle can. Mostly Tamiya. But, some with Dupli Color and Model Masters. I don’t like using an airbrush at all. To me, they make a simple process complicated. Especially when you get into decanting paint from a can. l just need a temporary airbrush. -
Question about a Paache airbrush
Plowboy replied to Plowboy's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
This is the one I used. I don't think it's a Badger 250. I'll have to change the coupler on the air hose. But, that shouldn't be a big deal. Do they offer this airbrush without the propellant can? I don't need it as I have a fifty-five gallon air compressor. -
Welp, I couldn't leave half ast alone. I had to fix it! So, I cut the brows away, added new ones in the right position and puttied it back in. I can live with this! It's been a pain. But, I'm glad I done it. Doing this has made me rethink the door panels and I now feel like I'm going down the proverbial rabbit hole. It's not quite dead on. But, at least it's not going to be dead wrong! This angle shows the benefit of adding the body line on the quarter panels. Hopefully, I can get it back in primer soon. I really want to peel off of this project and finish a couple of others. But, I can't leave it alone! Maybe I can force myself to break away once I get it in final primer. I bought an airbrush so that I could use up some of the cans of Model Master paints that have leaked and lost their propellant. But, I don't like it and am going to return it for a different one. That can be my excuse to leave it on the back burner for a while since I'll have to make a trip to HL. It's an hours drive. So, I'll be waiting until I'm going to be making the trip for something else and who knows when that'll happen?

I added .020 to the trailing edges of the quarter panels and added the brow above the taillights. Then did the putty and sanding. The brows are a bit too low. So, I may have to fix those. One thing I did succeed at is the taillights have the illusion that they're cocked towards the outside just like the real car. That was something that was throwing me for a loop! I did make the housings too deep. So, I'll have to fill them a bit. I should be really good at making the lenses when it comes time to make them!

I have many scrap pieces of clear red styrene that I can make the lenses from.

I always find the best photos in the for sale ads. Especially the ones by Mecum, Barrett-Jackson, Streetside, etc. They always have many photos. But, they don't always have the car you're looking for.

Question about a Paache airbrush
Plowboy replied to Plowboy's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
The Testors does have the vertical nozzle. It's still a better airbrush than this Paasche that I bought IMO. -
Top wheel is from a Corvette. Looks like the Revell '69 molded in red. The second wheel is from the Revell '67 Chevelle. The third wheel is from an AMT '69 Chevelle.

'32 3 window (to be named later) update 11/27/22 -PAINT!!!
Plowboy replied to Rocking Rodney Rat's topic in WIP: Model Cars
It's odd that the Rat Roaster frame didn't fit the three window body. It looks like you used the RR inner wheel wells? You came up with a great solution to the problem. I use a Phantom Vickie chassis under a resin three window body. It fit well right out the box. But, I still cut on the rear of the frame to tuck it up almost out of site. -
Question about a Paache airbrush
Plowboy replied to Plowboy's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
The Testors airbrush's jar screws into the body. I bought one several years ago. But, it didn't take long for it to become useless. A new one should last me long enough to use up the paint I have. That's all I need it for. -
Question about a Paache airbrush
Plowboy replied to Plowboy's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Yeah, I have no confidence in it staying together. I work in my garage and I can just see the jar falling out, shattering and splattering paint all over the floor. The few cans of paint I have aren't worth that hassle. I may trade it for the Testors airbrush. I know the jar can't fall out of it. -
Question about a Paache airbrush
Plowboy replied to Plowboy's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Yeah, I have the easy starter airbrush. I thought it would be a step above the Testors airbrush. But, I don't want something that I have to hold together to use. That's what I get for making an impulse buy. -
Fixing Chrome Headlights

I use a thick layer of Testors windshield glue. -
I've been studying this photo. It's about the best one I could find. To me, they look a little taller than the Malibu taillights. But, I've made mine the same height. I started by seeing if I could even make the housings. No use in doing anything else first. I pretty much just guessed on the shape as I can't find the dimensions on them. Then I added the framing. I then cut away the backing for the original taillights. I left a bit of a lip on the side of the tailgate to have something to glue the new housings to. First test fit. Trimmed down and glued in. I still have to add some styrene to the trailing edges of the quarter panels and create the brow above the taillights. I'm not going to be able to get everything dead on accurate. But, I believe I can get very close. I'm not looking forward to the putty and sanding work around the taillights. That's for sure! But, I can't turn back now!

Question about a Paache airbrush
Plowboy replied to Plowboy's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Thanx Jason! That's what I figured. I'll stick it back in the package and return it. -
I bought the starter airbrush for $20 to save several cans of Model Master paint. What keeps the spray bottle from falling out of the body? It just slides in. Looks like it could easily work loose and fall out.

I'll be using the disc brakes from the wagon. I'll more than likely have to modify them to work.
-
My thoughts exactly Carl!

I'm thinking about doing them OEM David. I just don't know if I can get the dimensions right. It's going to take some research for sure.

Your biggest blunder

Not a lot done. But, I fixed the wheel backs so that the wheels are see through. My first thought was to open slots on them. But, that would have been difficult and time consuming. So, I decided to make it simple and separate the rim from the hub. Then cut the excess away from the hub. Of course the hub now has to be glued to the wheel. But, it works! I have the quarter panels sanded down and ready for primer. Still mulling over those taillights. The wheels look much better now!

Eh, you're better off. The quarter panels and doors on the Revell '70 Chevelle snap kit look horrible. -
I've always thought these old F-350 kits would make a perfect 2wd pulling truck. I may get the latest version and turn it into a puller. I have a set of Cepek tires.
