Aston Martin DB5
MarkJ replied to Pierre Rivard's topic in WIP: Other Racing: Road Racing, Land Speed Racers
Pierre, how you get your finish on the interior and the frame of your builds is amazing. The seats look like leather and the dash looks like a real dash and the guages look like real guages. Seat and shoulder belts look perfect too. The exhaust pipes look like they are real metal not painted plastic. Clean, clean, clean. -
1/25 scale. That made it even a tougher build. It's surprising how much bigger 1/24 scale stuff is compared to 1/25th. You wouldn't think it would be, but it is.

Thank you, Edgar. I really appreciate you stopping by to weigh in with such a positive comment.

Finally have all the engine parts done and either installed or need to paint first before I can install them. Like I said, the air cleaner will remain removable, but I can pose it higher than where its sitting in the picture below. The breathers almost touch the hood when it is closed but if I have to, I can make them a bit shorter. Mockup as I did, I still had a lot of fit issues with the engine.
-
Thanks, Stephen and Jim for the kind words. Stephen I will be looking forward to seeing your Comet finished. Do you have a wip on it?
-
Finally got two breathers almost done. Just need to do a little more sanding. Getting really close to primering all the engine parts and then painting and assembling something.

Helmut, still pretty amazing how they can do this 3d printing stuff. Those still look much better than the ones that come in the kit. I'm sure Pierre could work his magic on those, and they would look excellent on the build. -
Started on the valve cover breathers but I lost one of them so I will have to start over on that one. The one I did not lose actually turned out pretty good. will post the finished ones when I get that done. I'm sure I will eventually find it some day in some crazy place I would have never thought to look.

Wow, Ian I don't remember this black and gold beauty. You're doing an excellent job with the paint and decals. Can't wait to see the finished product. Make sure you post a link on this thread when you are finished so I don't miss the showroom pictures.
-
Jack, even though the decals made for a tough finish to the build you did a great job using them anyway. The build itself is topnotch and one to be proud of. Thanks for posting this rare Jimmy Spencer ride. He was one of my favorite drivers and I really need to build one of his cars. I actually was there at Talladega when he won there in July of 1994. My only trip to that track. He beat his teammate Bill Elliot at the finish line if I'm remembering correctly.

Super nice build Keith. Very clean paint work and the decals turned out fine so you must have powered through the thinness of them. It's always nice to find an old kit at bargain price where you least expect to find it.
-
Excellent build Jim. I still have some of those snap kits left to do. There at the end, Hobby Lobby was selling them for less than 10 bucks a kit, so I snapped up every one that was left at the store I go to. Again, you improved the model immensely with your mods to correct the stance and the sides. Paint work and decals are top notch as well.

Pierre, that's your greatest asset. Taking a simple kit and making it look advanced and more like the real car. -

So glad your back at it Pierre and this promises to be another Awesome build. Is this the same type of car James Bond used in the early movies like Goldfinger? -

Really loving watching not one but three builds progressing at the same time. All three are going to be magnifiicent. -

Thank you, Ken. I really appreciate that comment from a master modeler like yourself. Thank you for dropping by.

Almost done with the front of the engine. Then I just need to fix the left valve cover and add two breathers to it. Then prime and paint and get the engine less headers completed.
-
More work done on the pulleys and fan belts. Made the fan belts by sanding down a small square rod probably reduce them a little more when I get them all installed.
-
Started cutting the fan belt assembly apart before I took a picture of it, so I placed it back together. I had to relocate the alternator and add a bigger pulley to the front of it. I will have to change it to a dual fan belt setup between the two big pulleys. I will also have to add an oil pump that will be scratch built to the lower left side of the engine and then connect it to the lower pulley with a small pulley added to the front of the large pulley. I made a distributor, and it fits in the hole at the back of the manifold. I will decide how high it will sit and also finish the top part of it later when I know exactly where the air cleaner will end up.

Yes, Pierre. It's astonishing. What Charles does with metal is truly astonishing. -
Thanks, Ken for stopping by. I will make sure I have clearance for the distributor. One way or the other.
-
Wow, Donato. So glad to see this one finished. It looks just like the ref pictures of the real car. In fact, it looks like you took the real car and shrunk it down to 1/24 scale. Very excellent job on this build.
-
Thanks Donato. The air cleaner is held on by a rod in a hole in the top of the carb so it can be set at many positions. When the hood is shut it won't even be on the carb. It will be in the right front floorboard. It won't be glued on.
-
Air cleaner pretty much done. I'm glad I glued the carb on with Elmers because it's going to have to move forward a little to make room for the distributor.
