Maple Grove, Reading PA 10/5/13
FASTBACK340 replied to GoatGuy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I used to live not far from Maple Grove in a town called Ephrata. I used to run up to the track on a whim on any given weekend back then. It was sooooo convenient. Now a trip to Englishtown is $20+ in tolls alone. Never mind the mind-numbing traffic.... But OMG, once you get there it's so worth it. Without expereincing either Nitro class run your not officially a car person. No description fully nails it. Maybe getting a deep tissue massage, from the inside-out, comes close. -
Why do I see some typical bizarro Chrysler combo like Salmon & Charcoal. Or a Robin Egg Blue & Black. Going stock, or mild custom? Lakes pipes? Bellflower Tips? Whats the plan?

You have my attention Rich!

Now I know how Beta users felt!

No poo-poo issue here! Free speech, I use it myself at times! Yeah, in an adolescent sort of way, it was neat. And I'm sure someone that well known and successful didn't step on a few toes along the way.

I just bought a Mac laptop pro. NEVER going back to windows ever again..... Never.

Technicalities aside over what he built and what he didn't build, it was still neat to see him. Admit it, the man, if not the Franchise, is a house-hold name amongst car guys.

Thanks Rich! As you know, that `Cuda was a real POS when I dragged her home..... Feels good to finally see her almost finished (they're never really done...) and enjoying her. As for meeting Barris, yeah.... it was special. Over the years I've had the opportunity to meet a few icons in the hobby, some whom are gone now making those memories ever better. Ronnie Sox comes to mind along with Dick Landy. Childhood heroes....

Thanks for the compliments! The color is the factory L1 Surf Turquoise metallic. It always photographs a little more on the blue side, but actually there's a tint of green in the blue. I'm not a fan of greens, but the color is stunning in sunlight. One-year only color, second rarest color next to bronze in `68. I definitely don't see the same color at shows! -

That is sooooo darn sweet!!!! Nice clean build with awesome scratch building. -
No autograph, 2 pictures. I was grateful to snag an opportunity to shake his hand and say "thank you" for all he contributed to car culture. Sometimes the briefest compliment means the most. And it WAS a treat meeting him!

The last book I read was Musclecar Confidential by Joe Oldham. The last fiction I read was Swan Song by Robert McCameron. I read too much tech BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH at work to make reading an enjoyment these days. Although I do subscribe to 3 automotive magazines and just one modeling magazine. Guess which one?

Ummm....I may be coming down to Florida in the next month or so to visit my sister. How close is Orlando to Wintergarden?

It was neat to see these cars at a local show. George was a bit unsteady and shaky, making the meeting even more special. He is getting on in years and I doubt we'll cross paths again anytime soon. As for the `Cuda......
-
Yeah.... but it was a pleasant surprise to meet the icon at a local show!

Yes, that's my car in the avatar. It's a `68 Barracuda 340-S that I restored a few years ago. Small block stick, fun car! -
