MPC Dodge 'Country' Charger Open Box Review
doorsovdoon replied to hpiguy's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Here's a couple of pics of the original box art from the 1968 MPC annual Charger I cleaned up the other day. No idea why I find this old worn out kit so fascinating, and a personal favourite of mine. Maybe because it's 'survived' such a beating over the years? The current Country Charger, and the recent Daytona tin box release is so bad I half think Round2 knock them out just to troll the guys who say "Please, stop... it's already dead" ?. I doubt R2 will restore the moulds including all the custom parts that came with the original, probably impossible to repair and more economical to make new moulds. We also have the far superior Revell version now, but there's no denying how good the lines are on the original MPC annuals, and how cool are those custom parts?!? -
Striking colour. Beautiful looking build.?

ah, yes. I've seen that being used in some YT videos. Looks amazing, good stuff.

Looking good. BMF on next weeks shopping list!

Beautiful paintwork on the roof. Love this kit, I remember when Round2 announced it and reading the comment section- "curbside? ohh, this will never sell" turns out to be an extremely popular kit! So many cool builds I've seen of these, look forward to seeing your progress.?

Beautiful work. Interior looks spotless!

My girlfriend visited some relatives the other week, while there, she stopped by a second hand store and found this Revell '60 Corvette. Issue date says 1976, so it's been hanging around for some time! It's opened but not started, looks like a multi piece body kit moulded in blue.

AMT 1970 Impala, Using '67 Supernatural Chassis
doorsovdoon replied to doorsovdoon's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Thanks Csaba. I think I seen that somewhere on the forum a while back, might have been one of your threads. Unfortunately I already painted the roof, the 'skin' of resin holding the script together would show. It's a great idea, I just wish I'd noticed my mistake before paint. -

Polished the paint and got some foiling done. Before I painted the car I accidently shaved off the wrong scripts. I was meant to delete the ones on the front fenders but instead I removed the ones on the roof pillars.? ah well, nothing I can do about it now. -
AMT 1970 Impala, Using '67 Supernatural Chassis

Yes, 427 with manual is the plan. Sorry, my mixing up between the two engine's numbers and the different boxes has confused everyone,.. but mostly me, Lol. -
Nice clean build. As basic as they are I wish Jo-Han was still popping out kits today.

AMT 1970 Impala, Using '67 Supernatural Chassis

Thanks for the link. These engines have quite the legacy, and still a favourite it seems! ok, so the scale difference on the 454 engine then is just a product of it's time. That's good, the engine from the Supernatural impala will fit straight in and has better detailed parts fitted. Just need to swap the boxes. I think I read in the link there how to identify a small block from a big block by where the dip stick is located, though I won't be going in to that much detail on this build, haha! -

I'd like to, but the two engines look slightly different scale. The bell housing on the 427, and engine as a whole, looks a bit larger than the 454. I don't know if the two engines are different sizes in real life? -

Yes, the 454 looks just a tad smaller than the 427 side by side. That's about as much as I know about these engines. The reason I want to use the engine that came with the '70 is I didn't want to put something in there that might not have been available in the actual car at the time. If the 454 gives me a hard time fitting in the '67 chassis I'll just put the 427 in it. -
Lovely foil work. I like the dashboard detail and the colour combo overall, beautiful. Love the lightly used dusty looking engine. Very nice!
-
Outstanding looking build. Some serious detail time gone into that! Looks like the real thing in some shots, love it,?

Nice to see a base model done of any kit. Super nice detail on the engine, all over in fact. Very nice.

Thanks mate. The 427 will fit right in as it now has the '67 chassis, but I'd like to use the 454 that came with the kit. It won't take much work to get it sitting in there. Thanks mate. Yes, the decals for the Charger builds are done, I had my local print shop do them. I want to make a few resin casts of them before I build them so I don't have to mess about with the dreaded Country Charger bodies again! Lol -
I started work on this beautiful looking '70 Impala while I waited for decals to be made for my annual '68 and'69 chargers. Engine bay detail was lacking a bit in this old promo style car, so I wanted to see if the chassis from the '67 Supernatural Impala would work on this, and yep, it fits like a glove. I had to cut the inner fenders off the '67 and make a cowl on top the firewall. I also cut the floor out of the old style interior tub on the '70 as the '67 has realistic floor pans moulded in. After I cut what needed to be cut, it all fits extremely well!

Looks great. The movie is before my time, but I remember watching it late one night on TV as a teen and really rooting for them, and feeling a little sad at the end even though they're the bad guys, lol. It's been a favourite film of mine since.
