  1. Thanks John for your comments. I've always appreciated the first and second generation Monte Carlos myself. I have another Round 2 kit to build and just this week purchased another older release with a green car on the box. I'm assuming that it's the 2003 issue you're referencing. I've considered doing a vinyl top on of the two builds but the halo will present a challenge in terms of properly laying it out and finding the right size styrene strips. As for the 402 could you possibly use the AMT '69 Chevelle 396 engine? Overall what challenges the kit may provide are well worth it given the cleanly molded body and well detailed kit.
  2. Thanks for the tip on trimming the springs and spindles to achieve the proper stance. I have a couple more of these kits to build and I'll remember that one.
  3. Thanks Carl, Chris Tom and Jim I appreciate your comments.
  4. Thanks Ray. Thanks Chris for your comments. In addition to the stance I had to work with the front glass to get it to fit better. The tail light lenses also needed to be sanded down but that wasn't much of an issue. What I really liked about the body were the prominent trim lines which allowed for proper foiling. Looking forward to seeing yours completed.
  5. Excellent detail job and a very smooth paint finish. The bumper chrome is extremely nice. I have a couple of the '75 Johan Cutlass kits and have toyed with the idea of creating a "Y76" model by partially blanking off the rear quarter windows. Just have to devise a plan to do so.
  6. Spectacular build. The bumperettes are a nice feature.
  7. Thanks Andrew, Lee and Chang. The color felt period correct in a way.
  8. Round 2 release of the 1/25 scale '70 Monte Carlo. Painted in Tamiya TS-58 Light Pearl Blue and top coated in Testors Glosscote. Nicely detailed model with minimal flash or parting lines on the body. The front stance is off slightly as the chassis didn't properly push up into the body on the passenger side. Something I'll have to do a better job on future builds of this kit. And oddly enough blackwashing the grill (which is usually a relatively simple procedure) gave me fits on this one.
  9. That's a sharp looking color combination and an excellent build overall. I have the 1974 release of this Monogram kit which was dubbed a "Special Interest Series" I haven't decided on a color combination for mine but after seeing this one I do like the red interior.
  10. Beautiful clean build and sharp looking color.
  11. Thanks for your comments Jerry.

    '68 Impala

That's a really nice paint job and great color. Like the accuracy of the front grill. I've always been fond of the '68 fastback Impala so it's a pleasure to see this one..
  13. That's an excellent build. I really like the color combination. The redlines set it off nicely.
  14. Excellent build Gareth and I plan on doing a vinyl top on mine after seeing this one. The champagne gold interior blends well with the Solar Gold exterior which is a color I haven't been able to find in the hobby paints. I've seen the Barris themed vintage AMT kits (which I'm assuming this one is) and if I'm not mistaken is a lowrider kit.
  15. Thanks David. I've been following this site as a guest for some time now and I'm quite impressed with the talent of the modelers. Thanks Gareth. I'd been wanting to do one myself for quite a while when I purchased this kit in the spring. The older kits don't come up often and finding a reasonable price can also be a challenge.
  16. Thanks John. True it is a rather barren engine compartment typical of the era. It seemed to me there were a lot of carry over parts from not only the '70 but even the '69 kit. And yeah "Heavy Chevy" decals would be great on a future release.
  17. Thanks for the replies. And I do have tendency towards white interiors on my kits.
  18. Thanks for your replies. I thought about adding decals but I'm still a bit decal challenged....lol.
  19. That is an awesome shade of green on a cleanly built model and nice work on the decals which I would find a challenge on the domed hood.
  20. That is one gorgeous shade of green (I am partial to green anyway) on a very cleanly built model.
  21. Thanks Lee and Craig. I agree this kit would be a good candidate for a reissue.
  22. This is my first post here of a model I posted last summer on the now defunct Scale Auto forum. Build is from the mid 80's AMT/ERTL release of a 1/25 scale '72 Chevelle SS-454. Painted in Tamiya TS-18 Metallic Red and top coated with Tamiya TS-13 gloss clear. Rally wheels are from the AMT '69 Chevelle SS kit.
