  1. That's perfection.
  2. Fender flares are looking good as they can be a bit tricky. And I remember having to to quite a bit of scribing to the rear window trim.
  3. When I built mine a couple years ago I was also concerned about the clear film around the perimeter of the screaming eagle But it really doesn't show. As for the metallic flake I used Deja-Blue in the same Testors line and they look much larger in the pictures. Sorry to see you had a bad break with the clearcoat as you're doing a great job with this kit.
  4. Those are all spectacular. I have the '66 Impala kit and that will serve as inspiration when I build mine.

    67 Camaro

Awesome paint work. I like the Tamiya line of paints and have been considering this color but haven't had the opportunity to see a model in this color until now. Thanks for posting this.
  6. Gorgeous build on a nicely detailed model. I have to get one of these. As a fan of green cars this one is an awesome shade. And sorry for your loss.

    77 Firebird

Great job and very nice detail work including washing the panel lines.
  8. Thanks Atin.
  9. Just looked up a picture on ebay of a '70 Impala promo and I never noticed the incorrect upper quarters as you mentioned. Didn't realize the annual kit was incorrectly labeled an "SS" either. Might explain why there's a floor shifter with the bench seats which I always thought was odd when I built a more recent release.
  10. Wow! That is stunning. I have an appreciation for these Eldos and the color choice is perfect. I like all the interior detail on the door panels and I'd like to do the same as I have two of the "Rancher" kits. And I just realized the pin striping looks perfect.
  11. Thanks Bob and that orange is one my favorites from Tamiya. And for now.....no decals. Thanks Stephen. I prefer the second generation Firebirds also but I do have a '69 in my stash.
  12. I was scrolling through when I came across this older post of these gorgeous Camaros. Now...this.....kit would be an excellent candidate for a reissue. I've always been a fan of the disco-era Camaros. Even if their 350 engines only produced 190 horsepower with Air Induction.
  13. Thanks Chris. I have one more of these kits to still build.
  14. When I first saw the pics of those kits I was like why is there a table on the trunk lol. Yeah exactly...lol. The big cat coughing up the Cougar is pretty hilarious too.
  15. Well thank you very much for that image Greg and clearly there is a distinct difference amongst the spoons. This is good information as I happen to have a couple cans of Tamiya TS-18 and I'll be able to alter the appearance of the paint from one model to another.
  16. Great thread and an interesting look back at model car history. For me personally getting back into the hobby the last two years after decades being inactive with the hobby I've enjoyed purchasing some of the vintage kits I'd had when I was young. And it doesn't matter whether or not the box art is very good as it's provided a sense of nostalgia. That being said I've never seen a good deal of these and it's hard to believe they were produced in such a fashion. But oddly enough I do like some of them notably Revell's Nomad wagon on the beach. As for that unappealing Buick Century stock car I guess Lindberg thought it had a winner and did a Grand Prix. But then that's more of a kit content matter.
  17. Definitely realistic looking with the spare parts laying around and that bench is awesome. I also like those two Firebirds parked in the garage.
  18. Thanks for that tip Steve. To this point I've only used gray under lighter colors so I will definitely grab a can of white primer. As far as certain paints being unaffected by the primer coat I remember your WIP on the '64 Grand Prix (while on the SA forum) and how the Sunfire Red wasn't impacted by the dark red basecoat.
  19. Thanks Daniel. That makes sense that the primer would affect the final color and to your point some experimentation before hand would be in order.
  20. Well I'll definitely follow this build as I have the late '70's release of this kit (Snakebite) yet to be built. That's a really neat diorama you've created.
  21. Just out of curiosity which color top coats do you use over a white primer? I ask because with all of the models I've done the last couple of years since I got back into the hobby for the first time in decades I've only used gray primer.
  22. Well I appreciate all of your responses and the insight provided on the subject. I have enough information to most likely achieve greater success using Dupli-color top coats. While I like the hobby color coats like Tamiya the auto lacquers provide the increased variety that I seek. I enjoyed the robust discussion and it's why I signed up here in the first place.
  23. Beautiful top coat John. I've done a couple models in this Icy Blue and personally found laying down an evenly colored coat a bit tricky at times.
  24. Excellent clean and nicely detailed build. Model looks to have required a great deal of foil work and with the two tone paint would seem to make for a time consuming build.
  25. Well let me be the first to compliment you on another fantastic build. Honestly the the bumper fit looks fine and not at all objectionable. Vinyl top was a great call on this model and the color reminds me of Tamiya Mica Red. BTW I realize you created the vinyl top but I thought certain releases of this kit had an embossed vinyl top.
