The thought of a flathead had crossed my mind, but the FE was as a more era correct choice for this one. And I stand corrected on the year, the internet lied to me!

After some parts box searching I have come up with an engine soloution! We will have a Ford/Mercury drivetrain after all. Found a spare engine in the leftover parts AMT 1960 Starliner kit I did a year or so back, so my Merc will be powered by an Early FE as they went into production cars in 1959. That’s puts in the 60’s era for a custom. So much for box stock hahahahha. The auto trans was pirated from the AMT 31 Willys with the big block cammer ford. I think it would represent a C6( please correct me if I have erred).

First surgery, removing the battery from the engine bay, like I mean what customizer would leave that chunk of ugly in a clean engine bay?

@Kit Karson looking really sharp my friend. I’d like to see it all in primer to get a real visual feel for it. It’s knockout as is though.

Ok I started with cleaning up the mold lines and seams on the body first? That consumed some time( I was also doing research on colours and engines) while the whole ohv caddy in a merc intrigues me I’m not a fan of it not being ford powered.

That’s a beauty Jay!

Thank you Andrew Feel free to share any tips Greg. Well so far it’s pretty nice for fit and such, doing some cleanup of parting lines on the body( not a lot so far). I’ve been doing some looking around at finished ones here on the forum and the ole interwebs, think I have some ideas.

My first mail order package for this year has arrived. Quality resin pieces from Ed @Dragcitycastings. Stock 32 firewalls for some impending projects and choose uptops for a couple of roadsters that may need them.

Time for something completely different from my bench. I’m going to make an attempt at Revells 2007 release of the 49 Mercury. Went into the crypt and dug around til I found this kit, bought on a whim a couple of years back. I’ve previously opened and made a start a while back but a damn bench squirrel popped up and I chased him down the 32 ford path. While I really dig the Mercillac concept I’m really not sure if I’ll use the kit engine or not. So follow along on this new adventure for me and if you have comments, tips or tricks please let me know. First hurdle I have to overcome is the fact that it has a full body so I’ll have to really step up my paint game.

I’m now trying to decide which one to move forward with might have to do a lottery, assign each one a number and pick a number from a hat lol. This may have to happen before I just open a box and start something completely different.

Darn fine work there Dennis.

Thank you David, and yes the 32 with 15 different body styles leads to a lot of variations to make in plastic.
-
Thank you David, I was going for a subtle look.

Thank you David, it was a fun build and the rough engine builds up rather nicely. -
It’s coming along nicely Greg

Ahh yes the shelf of shame, it’s had the most time on it than any other model, maybe I should make it a permanent resident haha. The other grille was marginally longer as it came from a monogram 1:24 kit so it dimensionally was not a good fit. I spent last session at the bench ignoring it and photographing the ones that made me happy lol. As well as getting a load of others ready to sell.
