  1. Starting work on the engine. First pic is mock up of kit parts to see how everything generally fits and experiment with assembly sequences. The Revell sequence sometimes contradicts with what I'd prefer to do for assembly and painting steps. Second picture is one of the many ref pics I will go by. This one is a continuation lightweight. Again I have questions about how my race car was restored as it does have Weber carbs nut a wet sump oiling system. The Cuningham car has a dry sump, The D types before did and the Lightweight did. So that' s it, I will try to scratch build some of the visible componentry as well as Weber carbs, fuel delivery and a few other details to get the look that I want.
  2. Good start sir! A complex but beautiful shape. Lots go work (and fun) with all the changes you are planning
  3. I don't know if your red will pop more but anything to see that pink disappear...?
  4. Not sure yet when I will paint the body but I felt like playing with color formulations this morning. Pic 1 is the actual race car in the pits in 62, thanks to Gramps for providing this rare period color pic of this race car. Pic 2 is the restored car at Goodwood in 2018, not sure about that color. Pic 3 is a production car painted dark opalescent blue.
  5. This is mind boggling, surreal, unbelievable stuff mr. Jones! Thank you for sharing. OK, gotta go back to my little styrene & putty project...
  6. Welcome back JC. Thanks for the info about wheels. I de-chromed and painted my cheapie wheels. I have used the Goodwood pictures as part of my references although with caution as far as accuracy of restorations. One thing I have not done is the red rear wheels...just looks odd to me.
  7. Took time but you got it done. Resin body right?
  8. Still Vallejo, with 20-30% water thinning, 2 coats. This way it goes on very smooth. It does not have a filling property but provides a good foundation for color coats. I spend time prepping the body before. After mods the whole body was wet sanded all the way down to 4000 grit before primer.
  9. Going cheap on this build as I just put myself on a credit card embargo. So unless I receive a gift from a good samaritan this build will be all sweat and spares...
  10. Thanks bud. It will be a while before I do color, but I just primed it in the last hour. Brushed on 2 coats and I surprised myself. Not a piece of dirt or even a hint of brush marks. I won't even try to polish that primer, going straight to color coat. I wish it was always that easy.
  11. Félicitations Claude. I have zero knowledge about drag racing but there are a lot of cool cars in the category. Your model looks awesome and your detailing and finishing skills add up to an impressive results.
  12. Very nice Tony. Tell us more about your process for the body dings & bumps and weathered paint. Looks really good and lifelike.
  13. If the 2008 restoration of this car reflects the original design...
  14. Not much else was done to the body for 1962 LeMans duty. Location of race type fuel filler on rear hatch next to a cabin fuel tank vent, bug screen deflector and the LeMans style "mud flaps"
  15. Making the fuel filler. Evergreen 4mm and 2.4 mm tubes, 0.5 x 1.0 flat, 0.5 mm rod and 0.35 mm steel wire.
  16. So no primer or color coat, just Future over the polished black styrene body? Nice!
  17. Many good options. Make-up applicators with the sponge tip work great. As for products I like brushing on Vallejo washes (waterbased) for contrast and sponging on Tamiya weathering masters for creating color change areas (ex seat wear or exhaust heat effect etc)
  18. That's a nice one Gary. XKE roadster + hard roof (if you can find one)+ some nice scratch building = Lightweight Jag. I love it.
  19. Seat looks good. Might want to give it a dark brown wash, would make it even better
  20. A wonderful build Helmut. It's great that you post a picture of the real car as it highlights the fidelity of the scale replica you have built. Color, detailing and finishes are all beautiful. I am not familiar with the Italeri kit but it looks the part. Even the (cast?) wheels look really good. Have you added any aftermarket detailing items or are all these nice details part of the kit?
  21. Not sure yet. Maybe a mix of silver & black or silver with a dark wash. The grill has to be there to reflect the car I am modeling but I want to make it low key.
  22. Helmut, beautiful builds of yet another great Ferrari prototype.
