God be with our friends and families in Oklahoma
Hollywood Jim replied to Danno's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Ditto Danno..................... . -
I'm an old fart. But I got to see all of the cool bands play live music. JollySipper: It sounds like you watched the Billboard awards last night..... LOL Yeah, pretty sad state of affairs. I have been playing rock and roll drums for 55 years. My garage band buddies and I have been playing together for 50 years. We get together every year. Currently country and western music is sounding much like 70's and 80's rock and roll. If you like rock and roll, then listen to country music. There are not too many good bands playing right now. I think after a few years of this no-talent music, there will be a re-surgence of musicians with actual talent Hang in there.................. . .

A serious question about posting factual information
Hollywood Jim replied to Ace-Garageguy's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Bill: I think if you politely correct wrong information you are doing the right thing and we all appreciate it. I agree with lunajammer. One time you corrected me using a personal message. I really appreciated it. You did not have to use a PM. But you thought maybe I might be offended. You went out of your way to be polite. ( By the way with your help I won third place with that model at the very prestigious contest. ) The problem is that comments on the internet are devoid of inflection and body language. It is hard to correct someone on the internet with a smile on your face and your hand on their shoulder. They may take your comment as though you are shouting at them instead of trying to help them. Also you may be communicating with someone who is not sober or who has poor people skills and you won't know this on the internet. For example; suppose someone is walking down the street ranting and raving to themselves and waving their hands in the air? Would you try to correct his misconception about 5W-40 motor oil? Of course not. The only time we get into trouble is when you try and tell someone they are wrong about politics and religion. I think your doing fine. Just remember you can't fix everything. And you can't fix stupid. . -
zenrat is correct. Build the model and throw the box away !!! That is how this hobby works. If your collecting kits for re-sale, don't open them. If you do open them use a stapler to fix the box. If your just saving empty boxes, let the box fall apart. That way you can store them in their flatened state. They take up much less room when they are flat. Hope this helps. .

Dispelling Modeling Myths
Hollywood Jim replied to JollySipper's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thanks ! You are Correct !! The reason I mentioned using only a tiny bit of hardener is that for modeling purposes, I usually only mix up a tiny amount of this stuff and it is easy to use too much hardener. . -
Dispelling Modeling Myths
Hollywood Jim replied to JollySipper's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Here is what I use. Bondo. A two part putty made for car body repair. It now comes in these tubes that are very handy for model car building. Available at most auto parts stores. The only problem is, if you mix in too much hardener (stuff on the right) it will set up in about 3 minutes. The stuff is easy to sand and works great ! . -

Dispelling Modeling Myths
Hollywood Jim replied to JollySipper's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I use a #11 blade to open panels. The trick is to go very very slowly at first and use a very light touch (light pressure on the blade). After a while you can press harder. When masking, hit it with a little bit of clear first. That way the color coat will not bleed through. Any bleed through, under the tape, will be clear. Another myth: You can paint and build a model car from sealed box to finished car in 24 hours. I am about to check out this myth. I'm signed up for my model club's 24 hour build fest. . -
The Best Car Ever Tested?
Hollywood Jim replied to sjordan2's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
This is strange. "Consumer Reports" sounds like a publication that is supposed to help us consumers make decisions. Decisions based on price and value. The price and practicality of the car are way out in left field. They should change the name of the magazine to "Nader Reports". . -
Here is the winning car in 2007. Done by Greg Nichols Beautiful piece of work. .

My suggsetion is to turn off the breakers to the saw and the lights. Don't turn them back on until an electrician checks it out. When breakers smoke and spark that's a bad sign !! And you said the new breaker tripped, another bad sign !! Don't take any chances, turn it off and get it checked ASAP !! .
-
I am an Electrician. An electrician should check the main box. Verify all grounds and neutrals are correct and all incomming power is wired correctly. Verify the outlet is wired correctly. Verify the breakers are working correctly. Verify current flow is correct. Hook up something else to the outlet and verify it works correctly. I'm sure the problem can be found. I wish I were there to help you.......................... .

The awards breakfast is tomorrow morning at 9am The batteries on my diorama have kept the lights running for three days now. .

How much $ do you put in a kit?
Hollywood Jim replied to pandamonium2112's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I never add it up, I don't want to know. I'm sure it is a lot of $$$$. If I knew how much I was going to spend before I started, I would probably not want to do the project. .
